Ever hear of the pioneer walk? You walk as slow as you possibly can and still be moving forward. It was a common saying in my halls. So and so, is on the next block doing the "pioneer walk."

Ridiculous ways you kept your "time going" in service?
by HereIgo ini used to go out early mornings with 2 pioneer elders, we would drive 20 miles out of the territory (a big no-no) to look for hikers to preach to lol of course there were never any hikers.
then off to starbucks for another hour lol easy way to count 2-4 hours.
i am chuckling as i write this, what a joke!.

Divergent, I agree that it must be much less than a billion hours of productive time. When i was in, I hovered at 8-10 hours a month, right at the average. I was in "circus" for the time that I recorded, but only about 2 hours were productive work of actually walking the territory, knocking on doors, and talking to others that were not JWs. The majority of the time in the car group was criss crossing the territory, needless driving, breaks, coffee, visiting other JWs in the territory, I was even in car groups that ran errands, picked up dry cleaning, stopped by the library, dropped off movie rentals, and had extended lunches at the mall. One time a group even stopped for brunch at a diner! Certain ones always work with same ones in the same groups. It was a mutually understood Saturday morning sham.

I'd like to see time lapse photography of foot traffic inside the KH or at an assembly to the Benny Hill theme song.

Did your congregation rehearse service meeting parts?
by compound complex ini was just thinking back to some parts i conducted.
when other publishers were involved in the part, its success often depended on how well rehearsed the participants were.
timing, proper interplay of dialogue, dramatic impact, etc.. as the one giving the part or as one drafted to do a demo, did your elders require rehearsals?.

I'm with ttdtt. You got to be kidding me! When I was in, there were a couple of elders that would call the house about 45 minutes to an hour before the meeting. There were looking for a demonstration, an experience, an interview, a reader, or something. They were masters at procrastinating and didn't even care about the assignment. My "gung-ho" ex would answer the phone and take on any assignment to give her the spotlight for 5-10 minutes. Very quickly, I learned to leave the phone off the hook at atleast 90 minutes before the meeting. It worked for awhile until cell phones came into the picture. ;)

The Vietnam War and “Higher Education”
by My Name is of No Consequence ina few weeks ago, i was chatting with a brother who is well into his 80’s.
he went to college, got his bachelor’s degree and was a school teacher for many years.
during that time, he was an elder in his congregation, had many privileges and cared for his young family.

Why Marrying An Outsider Is NOT A Disfellowshipping "Offense"
by Divergent inso yeah, i was thinking about this.
marrying an unbeliever is considered to be wrong, but at the same time, it is not a disfellowshipping "offense".
well, the reason is simple: there is more to gain than to lose by not disfellowshipping.

It's all about supply and demand. Sisters outnumber the brothers. It's about keeping the sisters in a small pond and elevating the spiritual qualifications of prospective brothers. Sisters are told to look for strong spiritual men as their husband heads. Sisters are dangling "carrots" and motivate the brothers to reach out for MS and Elder privileges. Brothers can then have the pick of the pack if their show themselves to be spiritual men. I know too many spouses that appeared spiritual to score a young, attractive bride or groom. Once the deed was done, they morphed into a controlling and abusive spouse.

Why aren't there windows in the KH?
by longgone inthe last kh i attended, (faded) was built in 2014. there are no windows anywhere, although the front doors are glass.

It might prevent elders or ministerial servants over arguing which "self employed window cleaning servant" is the best and should clean the windows?

This is "click bait." Just a couple of people talking about some event that may or may not have occurred. I rather see a credible, local news story posted. Otherwise, this is all hearsay. Any wrongful death is whored out by the media....especially if JWs are involved. "If it bleeds, it leads." Nothing on the Google search engine????? I'm skeptical.
