I remember when they were shipped in the mail in a plan brown wrapper with your address typed with a dot matrix printer. It seemed as if we received either an Awake or Watchtower every week. My parents had a huge stack of them piled up in the laundry room.

can you still record the talks at assemblies?
by greenhornet inyears ago my parents would record these talks and play them back all the time.
when they both died, we cleaned out the house and found 50 plus cassette tapes of recorded talks and they were labeled the year and the speaker at the time.
that was in the year 2000. we just gave them to there jw friends because i did not want to keep them for recording of music.

I can't imagine listening to the convention talks a second time. I could stand listening to them the first time! I use to get a kick out of the "super brothers" who would sit in the far back of the venue, centered on the stage. They would set up a tripod and a video camera and capture the whole assembly on video, switching out batteries during the announcements. I wonder if he made his family watch the assemblies again in the privacy of their home. Sheesh! Poor kids.

Let's do alittle math here. Say about 1,200,000 JWs in the US x $14 a head....About $17 million to take care of circuit overseers and some psuedo assistance program. I say psuedo because when there is a disaster, they just ask for money anyways.

JWs Among the Least Educated in the US
by jp1692 inseptember 6th, 2017: a just released research survey shows once again that jehovah's witnesses are among the least educated people in the united states: .
america’s changing religious identity.
it is also interesting to note how jws rank in the categories of: income, insurance coverage and homeownership.

In my 25 years in the org, I can count on one hand the number of baptized JWs that received a college degree. The numbers for JWs with a college degree are severly skewed. In my experience, most members received a college degree before joining the cult, but they are counted. In addition, many unbaptized young ones that associate in the congregation (appeasing their parents) have college degrees. Technically, they are not JWs but think of themselves as JWs.

Will hurricane Harvey infuse the WTBT$ with more money? Or cost them more money?
by exjwlemming inin the past, i have known many brothers that had trekked down to the southern us to perform relief work on behalf of the wtbt$.
they return as heros.
they shared the repairing and rebuilding of kh and the property of fellow believers.

In the past, I have known many brothers that had trekked down to the southern US to perform relief work on behalf of the WTBT$. They return as heros. They shared the repairing and rebuilding of KH and the property of fellow believers. Many gave presentations to the congregation and share their experiences and pictures in a KH sanctioned setting. You were looked down on, if you didn't attend the propaganda session.
EXJWs have shared stories of how homeowners are pressured to sign over insurance payouts to the WTBT$ when their homes were repaired by fellow believers. I have read reports in the media of how many people don't not have flood insurance. I guess the rates had skyrocketed after the last hurricane devested the area. We also know that JWs are not the most affluent people in the community. Do you think the WTBT$ will be more cautious in repairing homes and even prequalify those with insurance before the work begins? How could they justify helping one family on one street and not another on the opposite street? Either they help all or none? Otherwise, many of the "friends" might have a bad taste in their mouth and cause them to question the motives of the org. Could this drain the org of money? Would they break even by getting some insurance payouts to supplement the cost of materials for all and the abundance of free labor? The WTBT$ may have to get creative with a letter to the "christian congregation" that puts some sort of "theocratic spin" on the situation. Maybe they would establish a hierarchy of those to helped in a certain order...eldurs, MS, reg pioneers, reg aux pioneers, aux pioneers, and publishers with flood and homeowners insurance? Everyone else, "keep warm and well fed."

double halls signage
by road to nowhere ini visited a double hall.
one thing i noted on the bulletin board was page 3 of some letter with a large a on it.
apparently there is at least a 4 page letter complete with a proper sized a or b or c to differentiate the sides.

FYI.When I was a JW, the use of the word "bulletin board" was wrong in the organization's eyes. It was suppose to be called an information board. I was told that the origin of the "bulletin board" was the Italians and possibly from the Vatican. It was the way information was conveyed during the Napoleaonic Wars for dispatches sent from the front to the public. I was corrected several times by some "holier than thou" eldurs. A true Christian would never use such a term. Has anyone else had thie experience?

am i right for doing this?
by Akid48 inso im not in school yet but i was rethinking over somethings that happened from that school year.i know that one person that is a jw in my school.now we had gym together but he is a grade up from me when i would do something that didnt seem right and something we shouldnt do he gave me a mean look or he would just stop hanging out and walk a way so i stoped talking to him for my own good.
i just kinda feel bad for not talking to him but if i do something that seems bad in the jw eye i feel like he might tell the elders.. and i dont need that right now.....
