haha I love the "apostate" picture. The sinister mustachioed man looks pretty devilish.

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

I have absolutely no answer to the question of animal suffering, and it seriously depresses me. At least with people, we're all selfish piles of poo at some point, so it's not like we're perfectly innocent and should be shielded from crap when we shovel it out ourselves, but animals... they're not willfully evil. They're just doing what nature intends.

How much meaning are the rank and file putting on October 2014?

My boyfriend thinks the 1914 thing is a bunch of smelly poo. He even made a joke about it yesterday. We saw something that mentioned 1914, and he said, "Oh, a lot of wonderful things happened that year." Then he started laughing. If only the elders knew. He's making light of Jehoho's organization! Biblical Prohecies That Came True?
by Viviane inrecently there have been several claims made regarding prophecies that came true.
i've not personally seen a prophecy that i would consider as having come true.
i would consider the following as the requirements to say something is a prophecy and evaluate whether or not it came true:.

What about Israel becoming a nation again? If that was mentioned... sorry! I read through the first five pages.

"Many who do not serve Jehovah lead a self-centered way of life, focusing only on what they want. Some researchers call them 'Generation Me.' By the way they talk and dress, they give evidence of disdain for the older generation, whom they view as not 'with it.'"
LOL! Clearly the GB are "with it." They're some "cool cats."

I'm not trying to start a fight, but it's against Muslim rules for a man to touch a woman he's not related to. That's probably why he wasn't doing it.

If you still believe in God, what are your thoughts on the Bible?
by ilikecheese indo you believe it's inerrant?
do you believe it's based on things that happened, but a lot of it may just be stories and it's not perfect because men wrote it?
do you think it's just a good guide?

I think it's based on historical events, there are probably lots of things in the OT that are just parables like Jesus' stories, and that it's surely imperfect considering men wrote, compiled, edited, and translated it. Of course that means evangelicals and atheists both think I'm the worst, but oh well.

Do you like the people in the Bible?
by Dis-Member inthe society always speaks about all the wonderful people and characters in the bible.. they always too speak of many of them as being so humble, faithful, loyal, diligent, loving, kind, wise, merciful etc, and worthy of imitation.
also of how god blessed them followed by endless examples and reasons why we today should imitate them.. .
they also speak of how wonderful it would be to meet some of these people in the future 'new system' and have often depicted scenes where the the survivors of armageddon would be gathered around some ancient resurrected faithful asking them questions and listening to their stories of times past.

I like Jesus. His sermon on the mount is good stuff. There are so many great points there, not judging, keeping your charitable acts to yourself, not keeping your anger toward others, and giving to everyone who asks.
Esther is kind of interesting, too.

Come on! Tell it like it is. People are LYING when they tell you, "I've read the Bible."
by Terry ingo ahead.
tell me.. "i've read the bible cover to cover.
i don't believe you.. it is damned near impossible!.

I read it from cover to cover once, and I lost the will to live about halfway through the Old Testament. If you can't sleep and have tried absolutely everything else, may I suggest a jaunt through Numbers? Also, if you think the way your kids write is disjointed, just read most of the prophets and you'll think Junior is a literary genius.
One thing I don't get is how people can be Biblical literalists and think the good book is inerrant when they've read the OT. It's not surprising to me that reading that is what makes loads of people question their faith. It's nuttier than Gary Busey.
The New Testament is WAY easier to make it through. I almost enjoy it, apart from the Revelation acid trip.
