i would consider the following as the requirements to say something is a prophecy and evaluate whether or not it came true:.

If God does exist, the UN could have been who he used to re-establish Israel.
Even if Christians and Muslims live there, it's still a nation that's "for" Jews. Sorry for the poor phrasing, but you know what I mean.
If God exists, surely he will stop the earth from ultimately being destroyed by the sun.

Here are some scriptures that talk about it. I'm not super passionate about this or anything. I just thought I'd put it out there.
In Jeremiah 30... The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord : “Thus says the Lord , the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord , when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord , and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.”
In Amos 9... I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit. I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,” says the Lord your God.
In Isaiah 11... He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.
I have absolutely no answer to the question of animal suffering, and it seriously depresses me. At least with people, we're all selfish piles of poo at some point, so it's not like we're perfectly innocent and should be shielded from crap when we shovel it out ourselves, but animals... they're not willfully evil. They're just doing what nature intends.

i attended a funeral recently and a jw told me that the person who died almost made it to the 100 year anniversary of the birth of the kingdom.. curious what comments like this you've heard in your area?.

My boyfriend thinks the 1914 thing is a bunch of smelly poo. He even made a joke about it yesterday. I think it's based on historical events, there are probably lots of things in the OT that are just parables like Jesus' stories, and that it's surely imperfect considering men wrote, compiled, edited, and translated it. Of course that means evangelicals and atheists both think I'm the worst, but oh well.
