Hare Krishnas? I Know This Site Is For JW But . . .
by InterestedOne ini have learned a lot about cults on this site and cannot thank you all enough for helping me get a sense of what is going on with my jw acquaintance.
as it turns out, another friend of mine told me she goes to the hare krishna temple.
she is a wonderful person, and we have been spending time together having long conversations.

I agree about the Spidey-sense.
But that duck saying is ruined for me after a pig-headed elder spouted that to me a few minutes before the appeal committeee sent me packing. I should've quote John 7:24, " Stop judging from the outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." Not that it would've done any good.
Of course, when it comes to a group that might be a cult, I agree.

The A. E. Bailey quote was quoted in the All Scripture Inspired book as well. Of course, did house-to-house mean door-to-door in the same manner JWs do it? Or did it mean visiting the houses of believers? I believe the latter.

Here is an email from a third party to my father back when I was DFed. A little background: One JW relative I am close to chose NOT to shun me, but suddenly I lost contact with them for many weeks. I didn't know where they were and my calls went unanswered. Finally, I found out they had almost died and went into the hospital. My parents, having 0 contact with me, did not tell me, though this relative lived in the same house.
I don't think there is a misunderstanding with [Londo] and me. When he was about 15 years old I made it plain my stand what my views were. "If he turned his back on Jehovah He was not welcome in my house". It has not changed. It has more to do with my heritage and my understanding of the Bible than with the Branch's published info. I had an uncle that was my school teacher. Did he show partiality, No? He was tougher on me than others. I Learned from this. He was worldly but he stuck to strong principles as well as others in the family. That may be my custom, or heritage, but nevertheless I love my son. I am not perfect but it is my background that has probably more of an effect on me, than the published info. If [Londo] doesn’t understand then He should. He was always oversensitive I thought. He needs to grow up my father never hugged me but I knew he loved me by the chalk line he made me walk. Mom showed more compassion, but was not strict with me. I loved both the same, but respected my father more.
This was the day I lost all respect for my father...

This is all spin and PR, or, to forgive my French, bullcrap!
Randy Watters had a good article on this on Freeminds, where he mentioned the Trinity of Voices. One voice is the PR machine to the public. The second voice is to the rank and file. The third voice is from the Branch to the Elders. After reading recent study articles, the message is loud and clear: Shun the DFed and DAed, shun anyone saying anything 'apostate', even if they are relatives. If you do not, you are making God angry, and you can be disfellowshipped.
Besides, the publications say things without actaully saying them sometimes. And they cause persons, such as my parents, to go one step beyond what the Society's offical stance is. So the bottom line is: no matter what the Trinity of voices is saying, individuals will do what they are indoctrinated to do in such a way the Society can step back and say, "Hey...we didn't tell them to do that!"

Were You Ever Comfortable Going From House To House?
by minimus inbecause i was raised a witness, i don't think i was "uncomfortable" knocking on strangers' doors.
(weirdo).. but as i got older, i simply didn't want to bother anyone so i was at there door for no more than 30 seconds.
at the end i hated being there..
