Yep...I believe my dog has more love and insight than the Governing Body.

The 'IN' families
by punkofnice inone thing i don't miss about being a jobo, is those families that ruled the congregations.. i've seen how the elders protected their own using our old friend, nepotism.. eg.
the son of an elder that stole a car and was prosecuted but 'let off' because it was kept secret and all his relatives were elders in the same congregation.
it certainly went on when i was an elder but i wasn't one of the 'in' crowd.

My father, an elder and sometimes PO, was so strongly against nepotism. To the point where he took extra strides to prove he wasn't. Perhaps the reason he was against it is because he saw it happen on the elder body.
But when I was growing up, I just wanted him to be more a father first, an elder last, rather than the other way around. Give me some favor of some sort!
Maybe I'm going out on a limb, but I think some of this nepotism may stem from "natural affection" and wanting to protect ones children from harm. An elder who is willing to see their child disfelowshipped and shunned is just not that good of a human being.

Welcoming Our Latest JW Apologist JTrottigy
by pale.emperor ini'd like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our newest jw apologist jtrottigy.
.
he'll likely only be here for a few days like most jw defenders before he runs away when presented with his own doctrine.. so far he's already said some hilarious stuff, like "there's no such thing as nepotism in jehovah's organisation", "confidentiality is paramount to elders" and, my personal favourite "the overlapping generation is so simple to understand".. yh don't think i don't remember you from jwtalk..

Yes, we have had a few fake JW apologist on this forum over the years who ended up actually just been joking around or trolling.
But if JTrottigy is for real, I have one question for them: Why are you going against the strong admonition of the "Faithful Slave" and posting comments on internet forums? Especially, an "apostate" forum at that?
When I was a JW, I heeded the instruction to not do this, even though I wasn't sure why we couldn't "defend the truth" online.

Re: the woman parking attendants and real life
by carla inwith much amusement i read the thread on women parking lot attendants and it got me to thinking about life at home for the average jw.. i believe i am correct in thinking that anything to do with jw-ism requires a penis, except all the leg work (fs & pioneers).
meaning the mic's, talks, etc... but yet the same guy who thinks his wife (or any other woman) is not bright enough to run the sound system for example doesn't mind his wife hauling hay, digging in the yard, managing the checkbook and other various physical jobs as well as jobs that do in fact require a brain larger than that of a gnat?.
let's say a guy is a bit technologically challenged but he can manage the sound system at the kh ok. i imagine he feels proud that he is getting to do this great privilege?

There was a leaked attendants video that explained the role women could have in assisting attendants.
Even with the most fundamentalist interpretation of Scripture, it makes no sense that women can't handle mikes, or the sound, or do the accounts. Or any non-teaching position.

Fred Franz Former Training in Ancient Greek
by Wild_Thing inhas anyone been able to verify that fred franz received the minimal training in ancient greek that he claimed gave him the expertise to translate the bible?
you would think that would be fairly easy to verify or disprove in this day and age.
what college did he attend?

He wasn't as smart as he thought he was.

I didn't realize Sydlik was an aspiring artist.

Pioneers, Prayers and Pills
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inlooking back on my two decades as a jehovah’s witness, i’ve come to realize how the constant theme of endurance is playing a detrimental role on the individual's psyche.. jehovah’s witnesses have become far too good at keeping going.
they’re experts at surrendering to the demands of the watchtower, living up to what’s expected of them, and getting on with the priorities that those in power have defined and imposed upon them.
they keep showing up, presenting themselves a dutiful pioneer or ministerial servant.

Feeling social anxiety over being regular in field service? Take a pill.
Feeling stressed and anxious because pioneer life is hard? Take a pill.
Juggling congregation duties, talks, meeting parts, judicial committees? Take a pill.
I've heard it suggested by elders as a solution in order to be obedient to the org...er...to Jehovah.
Some cults use drugs more overtly in controlling the flock, but Watchtower doesn't officially endorse medicating one's way through theocratic activities. However, it is certainly a common practice.

I voted for her. I'm not a fan, but I don't understand the hate either. I still can't figure out what the big deal over the "emails" was.

Watchtower Spies and Secret Agents
by TerryWalstrom ini'm posting this link:http://jwdivorces.bravehost.com/spies.htmlonce you start reading it you won't be able to stop.fascinating and well-documented citations which give credibility to the belief that such a sneaky, underhanded, and often illegal practice has been secretly promoted for decades by watchtower society world headquarters..

My grandfather was an elder since the arrangement began and they followed people suspected of “wrongdoing”, until the Society told them to “stop policing the flock”. So it did used to go on. He followed the Theocratic Ministry School conductor into a gay bar and found him holding hands with another man. He followed another person suspected of having an affair with his sectary, but they never found anything incriminating.
Even years after this, my grandfather teamed up with a non-JW he studied with for years, who suspected his JW wife was having an affair. Of course, all this was not sanctioned by the elders.
Unlike Scientology, the Watchtower is very legally savvy, perhaps due to getting in trouble in the past (like the case with the Greek Branch). They know how to dance the line and stay just within what they are legally permitted to do. They also have no problem letting elders fall on their swords and absolving any responsibility.
Of course, Watchtower really doesn’t need elders to stalk people anymore. The informing system among the members ensures there are eyes and ears everywhere. A person is not safe even with JW family…the least bit of dissent can be reported and put a person on the elder’s radar.

The Ultimate Solution to the Mishandling of Abuse within the bOrg
by Wild_Thing ini feel like the world needs to wake up and realize that bethel, the home of the governing body in warwick, new york is the "vatican" of the jehovah's witness world.
their doctrines, edicts, and policies affect every jehovah's witness man, woman, and child around the world.
i don't feel like the politicians in foreign countries understand this.

They mislead Bulgaria. Classic theocratic warfare.
I agree with the OP.
It is not up to the local congregation or even the Branch. They cannot "go beyond the things written" by HQ.
