Its not just answering questions that is not allowed, but also offering up and tying in material not explicitly covered in the study material presented. One of my relatives is quite irritated that he's been put on restriction to not answer any questions for doing just that.

i may have misunderstood what the poster was saying.

Another marriage bites the dust thanks to the WT
by boyzone ini've known about this couple for a long time and attended their bible studies on occasions.
susan, the wife, has been having a study with the witnesses on and off for 16 years, (yeah i know, one of very useful wet day pioneer calls where we all bundle round sue's house for coffee and still count the time) the sister whose been studying with them was a sooper -uber pioneer sister with a hard-line and total society view on everything.
sue's husband keith has always been polite and interested in what his wife was learning but he loved his beer, fags and christmas too much to take it seriously.. finally a few months ago susan caves in to the pressure from uber-sister christine and wants to get baptized.

I'v noticed that the uber-pioneers\elders\busybodies alway preface what they are going to tell you you ought to do by saying "I can't tell you what to do....but........"
If my wife ever got so bold as to play that "spiritual endangerment" card with me, the immediate danger she would be in would be from the skid marks on her ass from sliding on the concrete out the door to the curb.

What happened to your marriage after you stopped believing?
by JerkhovahsWitless ini know some posters here went through or are going through some painful things right now because of no longer believing when they have a husband / wife that still does.
others were able to free the minds of their spouse.
i'm assuming the latter is a lot more rare.. anyone that wishes to share their story, please do.. i'm looking to pass the info on to someone who doesn't totally believe, but may marry a jw.

Terrible fights and long drawn out coercive appeals to me about why......and that "I know it is da truth".
I remember one night in particular where my wife was putting so much stress on me about why I was not going to meetings and what I should be doing, that I went into the bathroom and started throwing up.
That was actually a turning point for me as I resolved then that I'd not let my life and decisions be held hostage by anybody.
Last year, after one of her conventions, I could tell she was irritated about my non-activity and she pushed me a little to far again. I told her that I just didn't believe any of it anymore.

My wife is fortunate that she doesn't have to work. But, at the same time I'm working to provide the means of her being able to live the way she does and planning for our future retirement goals, she's, by the usual JW snide passive implications and attitudes, poo pooing my efforts in improving and strengthening my career options.
She's gone about for the past year leaving a form laying around that looks like an application to be accepted as an auxiliary pioneer.
While I have let her know that I am willing to support her weekly meeting attendance, a few assemblies, and some sporadic service activity, activity I already think takes in an inordinate amount of time and resources without returning any real tangible benefit, I've let it be known that I am not interested in being tied down and the money man for the more highly regimented activity as we both see demonstrated by one of our relatives. This "relative" is slowly destryong their household and marriage by being gone 6 days a week in WT related activities.
I'm not going to stand for that Shiznit.
If she wants to auxiliary or regular pioneer, and forces the issue, it, for me, is going to spell the end of our marriage because I'm not busting my ass uneccessarily to support her and by proxie, give a tenth or more of my income to those greedy bastards in Brooklyn.
If she wants to do that, she's going to have to do it married to someone else and\or supporting it herself.
That is not the direction I want my life to go in.

While You Were A JW Did You Feel Controlled?
by minimus inthe governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.

I felt controlled to the point where I couldn't even take a dump without the WT organization telling me which direction I was supposed to wipe.

Top Ten Signs that the Elders Want to Disfellowship You
by OnTheWayOut in10. there's two guys in suits staying all night outside your home in a four-door sedan.. 9. an elder you spoke to on the phone calls and asks you to repeat what you said the other day, but asks you to speak slowly and clearly.. 8. suddenly, jw friends stop by and ask an aweful lot of the same questions.. 7. your laptop computer was moved, left on, or is missing.. 6. you left your car unlocked, it was thoroughly searched by someone but absolutely nothing is missing including your gps which was searched too.
5. your boss asks if you are in trouble with the law or someone, stating some really polite men were asking about you and left some "tracts.".
4. someone picked up the cigarette butts around your back porch.. 3. the bartender at your favorite nightspot asks if you have ever before seen the guys in the corner booth that have been ordering "cokes" all evening and pulling out a camera everytime you order a beer.. 2. you receive registered mail and you already served on a jury this year.. 1. your jw mother who finally had accepted that you will never go back starts begging you to either go back to the kingdom hall or move with no forwarding address..

My wife is still as entrenched in jwism as ever.
When elders come to my house and I'm there, they check their smug attitudes at the door and conduct themselves as guests in my house.
The last time I check a couple of them in her presence, she got the message loud and clear that I don't play that....

uni is not all its cracked up to be me dears, sorry
by highdose ini've noticed on this forum the big regret of alot of people seems to be that they didn't go to collage or university.. speaking as someone whose done the whole shebang, i can tell you that while yes i learnt alot at collage, uni taught me very little at all.
in fact anything i learnt i taught myself by spending hours apon hours in the uni libary, which i could have done by just getting a day pass.. my degree has not helped me in my career, i already knew how to do what i do before going to uni.
i run my own business now but i am sure that if i ever went for an employee postion my years of experiance would count far more than the bit of paper i have proving i have a degree.. getting a degree is pretty much down to knowing how to work the academic system.

I'm sorry, but the OP's comments about higher ed is really "chapping my ass" right now.
Were it not for even the two-year degree I got 15 years ago, I would not have been able to totally transform the way my family was living.....wife doesn't have to and is currently not working, materially flush, nice cars, 3800 sq.ft. quarter million dollar house and I still have to listen to the snide remarks from JW relatives ,who have not a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of, trudging along with minimum wage jobs implying that higher education is a waste of time.
Right now, I'm finishing up the basics to transfer to a University for a BA. I'm not letting anything get in the way of my educational goals ever again.

Finally-Free
I know exactly what you mean. I'm in the exact same position you are in. Though I've ben trying, I can't move up to director of IT without a college degree. Hell, I even have people who directly report to me who wouldn't have gotten the jobs they have were it not for their college degrees. Now they are in a position to blow right past me.
