i think as the prices of gas, health care, housing and other things continue to rise, the jw without a great education will struggle to put much in the contribution box.
it got me to thinking, how much did my family put in the contribution box at the kingdom hall.
this is what i estimate for the final 5 years i went 1994-1999.... $10.00 per week for about 5 years.

after reading the thread on mickey spillane's memorial service it sounded like the jws are changing their funeral program.
or was this because of spillane's celebrity status?
in the past the witness funeral outline told the elder conducting the memorial service not eulogize the deceased, but to promote watchtower doctrines.
I don't know about 'Memorial' services but I do know that the 'Wedding & Funeral' outline is exactly the same!
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to observe the _____________death or wedding (insert applicable wording here)....etc....etc...

i know we've had a few threads about no windows in the kingsom hall.
well, some other folks got curious out there as well: .

My mother said they had no windows because it would be easier to 'gas' the people if they decided to!

to name a few that are popular with my old congregation.... .
dunkin' donuts.
quik chek.
Coffee heck! We had full breakfasts with bacon, eggs, potatos, etc. Then after that we visited all the used car lots we could find and then maybe one 'call' to stop our time!

are wedding rings pagan?
i want to use this, if its correct.
if they are pagan, how pagan are they?
I guess if you wanted to get technical, anything 'pre-Christian' could be considered 'pagan'!

i'v been lurking for a few months, but something jakes said about the 2005 wt caused me to think about what a brother said one sunday in one of the very last talks i attended in 2005. he said, "you have to believe what the society says, even if the bible doesn't say it, because after all, they are your brothers".
i was thinking about going back at the time, but that statement really floored me.. that statement along with the unfair way i was treated has caused me not to go back to the meetings.
but even so, i am still pretty much confused, as i still believe they have more truth than other religions.
Welcome. Just realize you're carrying a lot of Watchtower 'baggage' yet but the more you learn and research, you will come to realize that 'more truth' than anyone else is really a 'myth'. But it takes time and some effort to sort all that stuff out. It's like a picture puzzle. At first you cannot see the whole picture, but the more pieces that you put in, the clearer it becomes.
Tell us your story someday.

i remember when i heard that the rock band name kiss stood for knights in satan's service.
heard that from the brothers.
there were probably more, but that one stands out.
I think Shasta still reigns at the assemblies!

1. what is to be gained by punishing someone beyond repentance?.
2. who is in more trouble and needing forgiveness?
people astray..or the ones who led them astray?.
The answers to your questions are "NO'.
so when my brother was a wee little lad, my mother was helping him prepare his first presentation.
it involved a paradise tract, i'm sure.. anyway, so my brother, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stands at his first door and makes his little presentation.
except he kind of forgot what he was going to say and kind of made it up on the spot, because what he ended up saying was, "if you'd like to live forever you can have this tract.
