Former Longtime Elder- Met up with a Former CO,DO

at a convention recently, i met with don wallace, a former co and do.

he told me he came off the road 6 years ago and is living in scottsboro al.

him and his wife are in their late 70's.

Wow! I remember him. He was my pioneer school instructor. He was a cocky piece of work. He and his wife were both distant to the friends. The wife didn't seem very happy.

I remember the topic of gun ownership came up in the pioneer school, and he said, "Don't tell anybody". He said the problem comes up when others know about it and they are "stumbled".

The pioneer school was always praised as a wonderful and encouraging exoerience, but it was the beginning of the end for me and DON WALLACE played a small part in my awakening.

i am married to a born in who admits that wtbs has some problems.

one of his favorite scriptures to quote is psalms 146:3 to "not put your trust in nobles", including the so called fds.

Ok, Thanks again for all your input. We had another conversation last night. He said that he is cautious of WTBS but he will believe them over ANYTHING on the internet. He is very knowledgeable of computers, internet, and security and he knows that information can be manipulated. In essence, he believes Satan will use this as a means to discredit WTBS. So, unless I can get my hand on some actual documents, he will not listen.

Once again, thank you everyone. I am overwhelmed with the thoughtful responses. I believe he is mostly mentally out but doesn't want to leave physically because of family and his friends. I will take it slow and continue to research. Now that I have you guys, I have somewhere to go and vent. I don't have to talk about it everyday like I was doing. I will wait for the times that he is open to discussion (which is usually after the meetings). There are so many uncomfortable feelings we both are dealing with now.

Thank you for all the responses. I am going to be busy.

Cedars- We just saw the credit card machines for the first time last month. Then, I showed him the Awake article where they made fun of the churches doing the same thing. He was Shocked. He just kept saying "why did they do that?" Then, he said that "I will not be using that" So, it did make him feel very uncomfortable.

NDREW- I agree the protection is imaginary

Leavingwt-- SO TRUE. That has already came up. I told him, I have stayed faithful to him for the past 22 years because I LOVE HIM, not because, WTBS or Jehovah tell me to.

ABibleStudent-- He does get tired of being told to do more. Actually, he really thinks the meetings are boring. I have seen him reading some of reports for work during the meeting. Lately , he has missed a lot of meetings. But, he still feels a little guilty for not doing more.

Nugget-- Can you recommend any recent publication?

Otlaw--- Concerning all the failed prophesies, he feels like GB made mistakes and that they have learned from them. These failed prohesies are an embarrassment for them. But now, there are no more dates to predict. He said he never believed any dates because the bible says no one knows. But, for some reason, he still thinks the FDS may have deeper insight. So, he would rather we just sit back and ride this ride until it ends. I believe he thinks it is going to end, maybe not in his lifetime. The problem is that I don't want my children to get on this ride.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I have some reading homework to do. I know he doesn't want to lose his social structure. He knows that most of his friends would shun him. That is why he doesn't mind me reading outside material. I just have to keep it between us. This makes me sick to my stomach. This screams cult to me.

The voluntary donations is a big thing for him. He believes GOD must be blessing this organization because "money is what makes the world go round". How could this organization grow without dues and tithes? I didn't have an answer.

Hi everyone,

I need your help. I recently started questioning my beliefs and I am not happy with what I found out. I am married to a born in who admits that WTBS has some problems. One of his favorite scriptures to quote is Psalms 146:3 to "not put your trust in nobles", including the so called FDS. I always considered him a little rebel because he doesn't read the publications (only his Bible) and he isn't trying to climb the spiritual corporate ladder. He said everyone that became elders, changed and not in a good way.

But anyway, we have been having many good conversations and that is when he told me that the WT isn't deceitful, they are just imperfect. He know that I am reading so called apostate information. He says that I should ask questions even though he knows that WTBS discourages this. He isn't interested in WTBS history ( happened too long ago), Child Molestation (sad but difficult to take sides without being there, but police should be called), NGO status(Someone could have signed up without GB's knowledge but when they(GB) found out, they removed themselves) and Shunning( he has always spoke with family members and friends who were disfellowshipped- He wanted them to know he was happy to see them) Gotta love him!

So overall, he feels that being a JW has protected him from a lot of bad things and he wants us to continue going as a family. I asked him what would make him leave. He said, If they started demanding money such as tithing like the churches or he sees any outright DECEIT.

Can you guys help me out? He is open to conversation.
