Hines v, Watchtower
by DNCall inattorneys for the governing body have responded to the complaint in the above matter by filing a motion to dismiss the complaint.
the underlying argument its that the governing body is not a legal entity and thus cannot sue or be sued.. the zalkin firm will file an opposition to the motion and perhaps and amended complaint.. what remains a curiosity is why watchtower new york has apparently not been served.. you can read the motion here..

Lawsuit: I said GB member Barr that my Bethelite stepfather abused me; he did nothing
by Corney inhere's an excerpt from the recent lawsuit deborah hines v. watchtower bible and tract society of new york et al (paragraphs 158-180), one of 29 known cases brought against the org pursuant to the ny child victims act.
what should be kept in mind is that gerrit lösch apparently worked in europe (the austrian branch and eastern europe) at the time when the abuse was allegedly reported to him (not a gb member then).. plaintiff was raised a member of the jehovah’s witnesses.
she primarily attended meetings at various congregations in arizona.

Yes I agree. This case sounds like something from a bad movie.
However the plaintiff is represented by Zalkin law firm.
I have difficulties to believe that they would take a case if it would be complete rubbish.
But it will be interesting to follow. I understand more profound D Splaine´s talk as well.
I mean "brothers of Governing Body" connected to something like this!!!!
Maybe truth really is stranger than fiction.

Police in Finland has been investigating fundraising of Jehovah's Witnesses "for years" according to state prosecutor Mika Appelsin. Before year 2016 society's bank account appeared on JW's magazines and homepage. It is legal to collect money in religious events - it is view as an offertory by law even when using contribution boxes. However collecting money by other means requires a license. Surprisingly JWs did not have one. According to Mr Appelsin the case is "not so simple" and "we are talking about millions (euros)". There is no mentioning what it comes to distributing bank account number via Whatsapp or by other means which have been rumoured to have taken place during pandemic.
It is still not clear if JWs will be prosecuted. If they will it will concern around ten individuals at the top of Finnish branch.
Here are the links to newspapers. Google translate works quite ok.

This is from TASS
A criminal case has been opened in Moscow over the resumed activities of a Jehovah’s Witnesses admin center. Although Russia’s Supreme Court outlawed the extremist organization back in 2017, the center has been active since June 2019. Apart from Moscow, searches were carried out in more than 20 other regions throughout the country, Izvestia writes.
Work to ferret out the banned cells of Jehovah’s Witnesses has been going on for several years. Cult researcher Alexander Korelov points out that the number of Jehovah’s Witnesses followers has significantly declined. There used to be about 150,000 adherents nationwide but many people have walked out on the sect and some have left the country.
According to the expert, people are stressed because of the coronavirus pandemic so Jehovah’s Witnesses and other sects have ramped up their activities. "They understand that it’s easier to deceive those who are psychologically unstable and pull them into the organization’s activities," Korelov explained. "They deliberately search for single people and try to recruit them in order to get their hands on their real estate assets later," he added.
Jehovah’s Witnesses use Zoom, messaging services and social networking websites to maintain contact with followers and those who are willing to support their ideas but they mostly recruit new members when they meet people in person.
"Basically, human life has no value for Jehovah’s Witnesses and it is a very dangerous thing. It can work at some point and the seemingly peaceful organization may turn into a terrorist one," Korelov emphasized.

District convention to be held in assembly hall instead of stadium
by NikL inlast night they announced that this summers district convention will be held at an assembly hall.. this is the first time i've seen this happen.
there are a couple of congregations in the same hall here and they aren't going to the same ones.
they are having multiple dates.. the hall they are going to use can only hold 1500 people max.. just wondering if maybe they just couldnt get anything bigger this year or if the falling numbers are playing a part in this decision.

Wonder if they have really changed their business model and arrange more international conventions? We already know that they have lucrative hotel deals.
I mean International conventions even have their own homepage.
Marekting for Finland Convention for example is as follows:
"Imagine yourself in Kauppatori, the market on the harbor, enjoying coffee and the traditional Finnish cinnamon rolls. Stroll along the seaside park of Kaivopuisto, or visit Suomenlinna, one of the largest sea fortresses in the world. Or roam the cobblestone streets and get a sense what Helsinki was like during the days of the Russian Empire when the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society was registered under the Russian czar."
So money from int conventions and savings by using own small halls.
Just thinking.
Suomenlinna btw is a Military Fortess.
