This thread has reached dangerous amounts of Wibble. If things continue it could hit critical mass and be sucked into oblivion. Post with caution.

I think many of you will return to the religion one day
by free2beme ini don't mean this as an insult, more of a life experience thing.
i saw a lot of people leave in my years there and a lot were angry with the religion and the people, and some even protested the kingdom halls and wrote things in the newspapers.
a lot though, came back in time, as it was just the comfort zone they felt at ease in.

Right.. but they all fall under the word 'proof' as well. That's what I didn't understand. Didn't really want to get into a quibble over semantics here. But because you said " I did not say without evidence. I said without proof."
Proof = Evidence, the definitions are synonymous.

Why would anyone want to return to a dying religion? It doesn't even have any longer the appeal that it did in its hey-day - the 50s.
Well, let's be fair. This thread was originally started in 2006 - since then, new light has been shed on the matter. It turns out the WT is a bigger turd than we all previously thought.

tec, to discuss such a subject without considering evidence is a waste of time. How is it even possible to discuss the existence of God without referring to proofs from one side or the other? If all you can base a claim on is a feeling you have, then a true dialogue between sides is impossible.

How did this joke of a thread turn into a debate?

Probably been said but i'll say it again. The only reasons people will ever go back are:
• Because they left for personal, not doctrinal reasons, and still think Armageddon is coming/JW is God's organization.
• If the Organization makes some serious changes to key doctrinal teachings = disfellowshipping, 607, 1914, Org as mediator etc.
I doubt many that come here would return because 1) This site is the highly educational and the misdeeds and lies spread by the religion are fully laid out. Once you discover the 'Truth about the Truth' it only strengthens the belief that you made the right decision, and your resolve never to return. And 2) If you take away the key controversial tenets of the Witnesses, you don't have much left, so what's the point of going back?
Not to mention a large amount of people on here left the Witnesses and were turned off religion completely.
