i am sure most of you have seen the following quote form the wbts's pr site:.
"do you shun former members?.
those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned.

Who would have thought that you could have such a library sitting in your living room, the ability to interact with people from all over the world, to send and recieve information all at minimal cost.
Such things are what all the wise men who ever lived dreamed about. I am still beside myself when I think of the technology.

A very powerful story Kismet.
Sometimes I would just like to shake the hand of such great men as your father. It appears you are already walking in his shoes.

Amen to the comment about Bethelites. Further away they are practically gods. The closer one gets, the more people feel free to criticise, likely as you said due to familiarity.
I would be inclined to believe that Kismet's story might have some slight embellishments relating to his perception and vantage point. On the other hand, the whole shunning issue has produced some rather shocking reactions and displays on the part of many Witnesses.
I think it results from us being conditioned to do what is not humanly natural. As for the topic at hand who would have thought one's parents could shun their flesh and blood for simply asking questions and mentioning concerns with references and evidence to back up such concerns?

I thought the results seemed pretty accurate, although I didn't consider the validity of any of the other possible results.
As for what was said earlier, you will have to determine the merit of those words for yourself. They are simply what I have found valuable in my life.
I am not one for petty conflicts and trivial arguments. But as for for standing my ground for what I believe when it counts, I rarely back down.
I can walk the battlefield of hash words and insults and not blink an eye. What the other side says against me personally is irrelevant. When I am wrong and defeated, its always a pleasure to congratulate the other side for a battle well fought.
Its all big game SS. Whether you win or lose, its all part of the process in determining the big picture. Leave the anger, hate and name calling out and you're playing on a higher level.

im new here, so go easy with me!
just wanted to know if any one has any idea's or personal experience in regard to drug and alcohol abuse in former jw's.
all the one's i know have just lost the plot when it comes drugs and alcohol, especially drug use.
Wecome Tigger
This question has facinated me too. First of all as far as alcohol abuse goes, it is well known that people who are Jehovah's Witnesses have a drinking problem. As one brother put it "its the only vice we can have" after a "worldly person" exclaimed "Man you guys can sure drink".
As far as drug abuse by ex Witnesses goes I feel that the religion has attracted people or created people who are dependent on something to take away responsibility from themselves. These people are simply exchanging one fantasy world for another. Instead of "the new system will solve all my problems" its now the drugs that provide that escape.
In addition I've noticed that most Witnesses can only see 5 years into the future at most. There is no concept of life in this system beyond that. They have a hard time believing they will die.
This thinking creates poor short-term decisions and many taking drugs fail to see how the drugs or drug culture will harm them down the road.
