I understand what you are saying Simon with regard to the child abuse thing. I am also not saying that the GB should be excused for their actions.
While they might believe "the truth", by deliberately choosing to refuse to consider the information made available to them and by forbidding their followers to examine it, they are accountable because they choose to remain blind.
Further, anyone setting himself up as a spokesman for God whose words must be accepted as if they were from God is also accountable for his actions.
While I believe they choose to remain ignorant of many things, that matter I feel is irrelevant because whether they know what they've done or not, they are accountable simply because they've chosen to take on the role they have.

That is why many of us are here Tigger. We are trying to replace our family and friends with new "family" and friends.
That is the sad part in all of this, the cost of family. I won't play their game Tigger. If that is what family is to them, and that's the sort of friends they are, they can keep their values and convictions because the rules I play by are different.
I'm very sorry Tigger. My situation might even be the same as yours, I don't know. But I can't hold onto something that isn't there any more, something that probably never really was.

If you read the books Martini, you'll know that they believe they truly are the "channel". As Ray says, they are "victims of victims" and "followers of followers".
I don't think there is some big scam to mislead people. Things were just set in motion, and the org became what it did. A cold, heartless machine that took on a life of its own.

Perhaps instead of saying "all", I should more accurately state "most organized Christian religions" (thanks Friend )
They are the same in that most religions are founded on similar high ideals and progress along a certain path ending up in control and corruption. What starts out as good intentions and to protect and promote Christian freedom ends up limiting and destroying it as a religion grows in size.
The book is a good place to start if you still want to hold onto Christian ideals and is helpful in explaining why you felt the way you did and why you did the things you did as a JW.
