what's the current jw stance on retirement savings?
i know it changed.
pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".
I've mentioned this before to people I know. If JWs really really believed in what they teach, they would sell their homes and plan to leave the last few years on savings in preparation for the big A.
Instead they instinctively know it's all BS, or at very best they are not really convinced it's true.
the above verse is often quoted by jws both in general as a response to the idea of a deathless paradise and/or those promoting vegetarianism or veganism.. a letter in animal frontiers co-signed by nearly a thousand scientists is now warning that meat is crucial for a healthy lifestyle and livestock farming is too important to 'become the victim of zealotry'.. they stated the fact that most humans require the nutrients from eggs, meat and dairy and that plant based alternatives are at least 4x more expensive (which implies much higher energy consumption in the process) and not scalable and outright dangerous to global health to support a large population shift towards them.. they also called out several recent papers for misleading information and even called for the outright retraction of one that said meat substitutions are a viable alternative.. not sure what the modern jw view on this is, i know many people in the borg promoted it back in the day.
just goes to show that science does not support the notion of a global vegan diet..
I remember when I was studying to be a JW, I had this thought about how many animals are perfectly adapted to eat meat and be hunters. When I asked my bible study conductor why these animals are built to hunt and eat meat he turn to me and said... "you know, sometimes you just have to have faith, and not question everything".
That should be been my queue to run away quickly.
i had a conversation about this 22 carat gold contradiction with a couple of zealous jw's a couple of days ago.. even their personal "explanations" contradicted each other as they tried justify their cognitive dissonance!.
an absolute delight to witness such absurdity.. "after all, no one will be allowed to practice vile things in the new world.
the unrighteous must have practiced these vile things [john 5:29] before their death.
I also don't see a contradiction.
One paragraph is saying that nobody will be allowed to practice vile things in the new world. But that often means if you do do something vile, then you will be punished, putting an end to it.
If a mayor says.. " I will not allow people in my administration to be corrupt", he is not really saying he can guarantee 100% that nobody can be corrupt, but instead is probably saying he will not tolerate it.
a sister said the other day at the ministry group “”what is all this talk that the end is still some way off” she said she has been waiting for decades and she was told there is no way it would take this long.
some others said in an annoyed kind of way yes they would have made different decisions decades ago if they knew the end still would not have come by 2023.. how will the majority react in a few more decades time when the end still hasn’t come?.
why all that talk of sense of urgency decades ago?.
Sometimes we forget that this religion has been around for 100+ years.
Other JWs decades ago also felt the the same way as they saw the decades go by. But guess what, they are gone and a new batch of Jdubs were born and got on the cult train.
It's a revolving door. That sister will die wondering where is the end, and there is someone being born today who is on it's way to becoming a pioneer

Would love to ask a GB member on whether to go ahead with Ramapo or not….what would Jesus do in this situation?
either you think the governing body was correct giving direction to be fully vaccinated and do you will keep getting the boosters, or.... if you don’t think the boosters are safe and you decide not to keep getting them then you are admitting that the direction was wrong.. if the direction was indeed harming brothers and sister who kept going to get these injections because of the covid updates then this is a huge wake up call?.
how could this direction from the gb who are i doubt jehovah give such harmful direction?.
I will not contribute to the Pfizer executive retirement fund any more. I took the two doses under protest, because my employer forced me to. But that's it.
Now, if the government forced Pfizer to produce and sell the vaccine at cost with the justification that there should be no profit from the pandemic, you could almost certainly bet that there would be zero push to take these endless boosters. In fact, I'm pretty sure they would be instead saying that only the people at highest risk level should take the vaccine.

The sad thing that is they will find a way to stretch that indefinitely.
i would like to ask the ex-jws on this site to put their ‘apologists hat’ back on for a moment, so that i can go through the overlapping generation teaching in an attempt to make sense of it.
i apologise if these points have already been addressed on this site.a quick background for the reason for my request… having never confronted a jw apologist on the topic, i recently engaged with a jw regarding the official understanding of a ‘generation’ and unfortunately he didn’t have an answer to the points i was making.
i was left a little confused as to what the official jw response would/should be.so i was hoping that my thoughts below might be considered from an apologist’s perspective.the point in question relates to this section of the watchtower article below from 2008, as well as the jw.org video explanation of the overlapping generation:---:w08 2/15[box on page 25] can we calculate the length of “this generation”?the word “generation” usually refers to people of various ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period or event.
Personally I think you could just about argue that 120 years is a generation, at an absolute stretch, because it is the outer limit of a human lifespan. This would correspond with the 120 years as “days of Noah” and bring us up to 2034.
I suspect that the Org would scramble to find a way to extend the generation. Perhaps they would ask for a very old Jdub volunteer to be permanent connected to life support machines for 50 years in order to say that actually the generation is still alive.
kingdom halls will be the thing of the past.. conventions (mini assembly halls will still be going on) but will charge for attending and parking and always a donation.
elders will play a much smaller role since csa.
cart preaching will replace door to door.
They just struggle on and readjust to the shrinking numbers as best they can until there is no one left.
One has to wonder the level of spin from Org to excuse fading numbers, especially when it becomes too obvious. They are already massaging the number in innovating ways. They might have to resort to stop counting altogether. Or maybe they'll start counting visits to the website as members of the religion. They will need to cover the bleeding somehow.
I know I've heard my mother say several times that even if there is only one person left, it will still be the true religion. Hard to beat that level of delusion.

maybe some of it is due to being lost in translation but since the watchtower is predominantly english, it doesn't seem likely.

It's just too bad that Jellohoba was too busy doing nothing and also couldn't send one of gzillion angels who were also busy doing nothing, and therefore couldn't protect those jdubs.
The Org never loses regardless of the outcome. If nobody attacks the Jdubs it's because Jellohoba protects them, and if someone attacks them it's because the prophecies are getting fulfilled and end is coming.
