I find this website to be full of genuine people who are for the most part empathetic. I think the last thing we need is to have the same mindset that we find in a JW congregation, where people supress their true thoughts in order to force uniformity.
Uniformity and conformity need not apply! Challenging ideas and open free discussion is the way minds and people evolve.
god, evidently, wants you to be poor: .
a newly baptized brother is married, and he and his wife have three small children.
one day, a workmate suggested that he and the brother move to another company that paid a higher wage and provided more benefits.
I recall after i graduated high school, i went and got a job at some store, because most other people in the hall would just do that - get a job. Any job.
I also recall being in social situations with "worldly" people and noticing how all of them would discuss at lenght their occupations and their plans for moving up to other jobs.
It was obvious their career was very important to them, and this concept was completely foreign to me. I had no interest in talking about my job, because i had no interest in the job itself. It was a way to get a paycheck to get by. You will notice that at a JW gathering nobody speaks about their jobs, because they probably hate their jobs too
After i left, it became clear to me how important education and a career really are and i worked hard to make up for it. The Org likes to keep everybody down, and wants JWs to feel that the only thing special in their lives in belonging to the cult.
finally, i've found the reason why some men become homosexuals.. the 1976 book "your youth: getting the best of it" explains it here in great detail.... .
I believe Bethel has more Gays per capita than San Francisco
Probably true. In fact, i have an uncle who was a bethelite during the 80's. Now, he was already married even before going to bethel. Suddenly in the late 80's they were asked to leave bethel under some questionable circumstances, which they never really told me about in detail.
After they left bethel, they actually had two kids and live "normally" for years. About 5 years ago, he dropped a "bomb" on my aunt and told her he was gay and had always been. He left her and is now living with a man. From what she told me, she always suspected it, even from the Bethel days.
this site is not a healthy forum for discussion or healing.
its an arena for jaded athiests to bash anything christian or god related.
yes, i know the jw's lied to us about god and the truth.
I think bashing is wrong - anyway you cut it. When i left the organization i continued to consider myself a christian, but part of leaving the organization was allowing my beliefs to be driven by facts and logic, in my opinion it's incredibly hard to support the idea of God being real while basing it on facts and logic.
Many of us have been through this. I have not transitioned to being an atheist completely ( i think), mostly because the idea of God existing is appealling to me. We all want to think that there is something other than this, and we all like the idea that even if you have the shittiest life ever, you still might have something wonderful come your way.... But once you let palpable facts and logical evidence lead the way, it's very hard to "keep the dream alive"..

wouldn't it be nice if they said 'you know what, we've made millions in property sales recently, lets donate a couple million to a philipines relief fund..'
ten vans full, probably just for jw's.
@ emeth,
They do not say that one should not give to charities but they do warn to have a good look to which charity you give and what the charity does with gifts.
This is very true. I for example always check this.. because i wouldn't want my charity to spend my money settling court cases for pedophilia, or spend my money building new facilities, or even spending my money investing in the stock market or hedge funds.
hey, but thats just me.
with so many meetings during the week, it seems like the opportunity to raise questions would be rich.
i just wondered how probing questions are handled in most kingdom halls.
are they taken as an indication of an inquisitive mind or a potential source of stumbling for weak members?
In all the meetings i attended, i never heard someone ask a provocative question. In fact, nobody asks questions at all, they simply parrot the prescribed answers in a robotic way.
I do remember one time during my bible study as a kid, that i started asking probing questions to the Dub studying with me about things that troubled me even back then.. I recall asking " Hey why would Jehovah make animals with bodies made for killing and hunting, when the original purpose was for all animals to live in peace together eating straw? "
The dub was visibly bothered by my questions and told me in a dry way " Well you know, you need to have faith instead of always looking for questions"
it's been a long time since i posted here, but i lurk often, checking in on things in the jw world.
i have been out for 25 years, but have family still in.
none of them speak to me anymore, even though they used to quite often and quite regular, breaking all the shunning rules.
Considering that most (or a lot) of JWs are unskilled workers without advanced degrees, one can say that life after the big A would be miserable.
Who will run power plants? Planes? Water and sewer system? Telecomunications?
Growing your own food is a possibility, but how many JWs are ready to hit the ground running growing their own food if all they do now is pass by the store? Who will run refineries so they can get gas for cars and trucks?
This utopian idea of a JW family living a grassy hill in a house surrounded by flowers with a leopard and a sheep cuddling in the front yard sounds great, but it has no connection with the hard reality of living without many of the things we take for granted today.
To be honest, i rather live here and now.
when you look at the image above what do you see?
a sneaker or an outward display that i am now following after another religious group?.
well yesterday i had a 10 minute conversation with an elder who finally got the balls to call me.
I'm not sure what's more pathetic, the elder following up on this or the two idiots that snitched on you to try to get some spiritual brownie points.
When i hear stuff like this, it always amazes me that at some point i actually thought this was reasonable.
I mean, what we are talking about here is sentencing someone to die because of the color of the stripes in their shoes!! When elders disfellowhip someone, in theory they place that person in a "to die at armageddon" state - a death sentence.
jw: the online library on the jw.org web site.. kw: oh, im on google.. jw: oh, no... look under, uh.... .
kw: ill give you the reference and you can look it up.. jw: no.. .
most of the brothers never believed in it anyway.. kw: i dont understand this.
KW: I’ll give you the reference and you can look it up.
JW: No
...that pretty much says it all
