9:40 Symposium:Motivate Right hearted Ones to Love . . . Their Spiritual Father (Acts 13:48; 16:14) Their Spiritual Mother (Proverbs 6:20)
by wolfman85 inthis is a topic for dc 2012. it turns out that more than 7 million jw are not the spiritual children of god to the wt, the most we can hope for is to be his friends.
are we or are we not spiritual children of god?
the truth is that this organization has made us spiritual bastards.. the other theme of "spiritual mother" has pagan and idolatrous connotations.

And just as you said Wolfman, not a mention of Christ Jesus in all this... so the 'organisation' is our teacher, when I last looked at my bible it was the Holy Spirit that Christ Jesus sent that would be our teacher and not any man or bunch of men...

"I respect a person's beliefs"
by Phizzy ini often hear this phrase "i respect a person's beliefs" on here and elsewhere, but i feel strongly that you should not.. i know that sometimes people mean by that phrase that they respect the right of a person to hold silly beliefs if they want to, but if that is so, say so.. if a person's beliefs are unsupportable, perhaps looney, perhaps downright dangerous, murderous, like the jw blood doctrine, such beliefs deserve no respect at all.. the person holding them we can show respect to by telling them in a gentle, and polite way that their beliefs are a pile of steaming poo, but we should not show respect for the beliefs, even by the simple act of remaining silent.. Once I went into the house of a Hindu lady, she showed me her gods. To me they were nothing more than ornaments. One included her favourite Ganesh, god of good fortune. She lit incence candles for them, prayed to them etc. To me it seemed silly but she truly believed it. If I had ridiculed her or diminished the value of her sincerely held beliefs it would have deeply offended her and hurt her. As it was we were able to exchange views about things. She showed me her Sanskrit holy writings and it was a very interesting conversation and we left on mutually good terms. We can learn a lot from what other people believe and what it is that makes people tick.

If those beliefs harm other people they cannot be respected. A terrorist may sincerely believe what he is doing is right, but he is killing other people. How can beliefs like that be respected?! JWs hold to shunning, or the no blood policy. These are harmful. If someone simply holds personal beliefs about something that does absolutely no harm whatsoever to anyone else, the person has every right to hold to those views without being ridiculed by others.

MsGrowingGirl20 is no longer one of......
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses(well mentally that is)---however i am a christian...i recently started reading different translations from www.biblegateway.com...jesus is so different to how the jw's teach....and god...i mean, i still am learning and confused about certain things but i am in love with them.... it's obvious that the jw's are not an organization of god.i don't think god is working through an organization but through individuals...however i am going to speak to an elder tomorrow about my issues---all of them---and i'm going to tell him everything--what i've been reading, where i got it from---everything!!
i'm not hiding anything!
i have done no wrong....i just want to be a true christian and if they disfellowship me for seeking answers then this is not where i need to be.

I'm finding Jesus too.. and it's wonderful. Something so different to what the WTS dish up. It pales into insignificance. Wish I had the courage to do what you are doing.

Tomorrow's Watchtower Study: Steve hits Selma in North America... not South America
by Alfred ini started a thread a few days ago that probably went unnoticed for the most part (under "scandals & cover-ups") regarding steve hitting selma in tomorrow's wt study... i just wanted to recap it here for those who may have missed it.... the spanish version changes the story completely.... if you've read that paragraph 12 it basically says that steve hit selma as she tried to prove a point.
selma then feels sorry for herself.. in the spanish version steve merely gets furious with her and she gets sad.. by the way, i just looked up the italian version... .
selma ricorda una lezione che imparo dalla sorella che le conduceva lo studio.

I don't know about the spanish version but the italian version uses the term 'mettere le mani addosso'.. although it literally means 'laying hands on' it usually does have the meaning of hitting someone.

thecrushed.. being in a similar position as you but the other way round (husband still in, me mentally out) the best thing you can do is take it slow slow slow... now MIL is out of the way you might feel like you want to drop everything on your wife all in one go. Believe me this doesn't work!
Your idea of having some quiet romantic time, just the two of you is the best thing you can do. Forget religion or anything else, just show her what a wonderful husband you are. Make her feel special. If she asks about anything just say you want to put it all to one side for now and just concentrate on her. You have plenty of time.

How To Learn A Second Language, Ideas, Thoughts On Which To Learn?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inno doubt there are polyglots on jwn, what do you think the best language to learn is?
spanish, french, german, tagalog or?????.

www.busuu.com is a brilliant website for learning languages. Most of the major ones. You can do a free version or if you want get the premium version (very reasonable) and be able to have your work checked by natives of the language you learn and check theirs. You can also chat to other people in a chat box if you want. It's very good.

Brother Hero wants to watch Faith in Action with me this Saturday
by garyneal inthe question i have is, should i even bother?
i am not even sure why he wants to watch this particular video.
ive already seen it with my wife a few days ago and already seen how they leave a lot of details out concerning their teachings of old.

When I watched it the other day certain things struck me. Why when Henry Grew and George Storrs were applauded for examining the scriptures and finding out things that weren't scriptural in their church and then leaving, when today if it happens amongst JWs they are called apostates?
Why does the video mention nothing about Russells pyramidology? There are photos of him in the video at the Pyramid of Giza (during his world travels) and the chart of the 'Plan of the Ages' is being held by his followers (taken from the book 'The Divine Plan of the Ages'). This plan takes all of the measurements from the Pyramid to fit in with Bible Prophecy and where Russell calculated the date 1914.
Also in the video it says about 1914 that they realised it was the date Jesus Christ started ruling in heaven, the start of his presence, when in actual fact they believed 1874 was the start and believed it until 1930.
Also where it talks about the 'Gentile Times' where did they get it from? They show that it's to do with the tree dream of Nebuchadnezzar and the 7 'times' but the only mention of 'Gentile Times' or the 'Appointed Times of the Nations' is in Luke 21:24 where Jesus is clearly talking of a time beginning in the 1stC and not as they claim 600 years earlier!
