Ethos... why haven't you been back and commented on your other thread about 'Stumbling over errors in the WT' like you said you would.. it would be nice to see you reply to at least a few of the points brought up.
btw, like problemaddict, I'm still a JW too.
a watcher.. there are many that are happy to still serve God... what they are not happy about is serving a bunch of men...
many still want to do the preaching work but they want to preach the good news about the Christ... not the good news according to the WBTS

how can we reason with jehovah's witnesses regarding the practice of disfellowshipping fellow believers?.
well, when you look up disfellowship in the nwt index, you are referenced to expel, expelled.. when you look up these two words, you get the following scriptures:.
john 16:2 men will expel you from the synagogue.

I'm not stumbled by the errors. It's human to make errors. What I have against it is that these errors were supposed to have come from Jehovah. We were supposed to accept them without question. When the errors are corrected it is supposed to be 'new light'.
Why should we accept errors when we can see them as such? Why aren't we allowed to question them? I am not an apostate, I'm still an active JW but I come here because I cannot express my doubts or concerns with my friends. If I do I will be marked and watched and if I don't keep silent I could be disfellowshipped and lose my family.
Do you think this is acceptable?
i seem to remember somebody saying that since the 90's the number of elders has declined from 90000 to 60000. does anybody have any hard figures regarding this?.
the organization is desperate for "qualified" men.
but their standards are much too high, especially the monthly field service hour requirements tagged on to endless meetings and congregational busywork.
When I was a kid there was only ever 3 'elders', the Congregation overseer, the Assistant overseer and the bible study overseer. They only had bodies of elders from the 70's onwards. They could always go back to the old way.In my congregation there are 14 elders for about 100 pubs. So things aren't too bad here but my hubby told me the other day that in the UK there are only 3 substitute COs in the whole UK and the COs are all getting old...
i just came back from the meeting .although the local announcements have been abolished recently as an item for the second part , an elder came on the platform to announce that the society needs more money and there is a letter on the noticeboard for all the congragation to read to this effect.
although the announcement was read half heartedly (this elder's daughter is an apostate ,it looks like he knows what's going on) the implictions are dramatic .
the society in brief,requests any brother or sister with funds sitting on personal accounts to loan them to the society ,he didn't go into any specifics but i will take a picture of the letter next time and make it available here .. i'm not amazed that they're asking for money ,i thought it will happen sooner or later .what i'm amazed is that 99% of the congragation are oblivious to the financial crisis that the society finds itself these days and the reasons why .i can see the future now .the watchtower will be the fist part of the babylon the great to go down in a blaze of scandals and financial troubles !.
Grumblecakes .. the dropping of announcements has been very recent. It was felt they weren't necessary so five minutes extra was added to the book study and announcements dropped. If there are any letters to be read or something important it is added to another part on the SM. Otherwise everyone needs to look at the noticeboard for any other info. (like hall cleaning, FS changes etc).
today is my one-year anniversary of joining jwn.
it has been quite a journey from being disfellowshipped and functionally agnostic, to searching for answers about 607 bc and ttatt, to my journey to mainline christianity, to working toward get reinstated and fading, to finding that i still had lost my best friend, but in the end, finding jesus fill that role.
a year ago today i would have never imagined walking into a church, or getting baptized again, this time in the name of the father, son and holy spirit, not in the name of an organization.
Awesome bro! I remember we joined at a similar time, it'll be a year for me next month... and we both joined the struggle about the same time too. But I think your journey has gone quicker than mine. I'm still stuck in.. as you know.
However I think we both have 'found' Jesus. During this year he has become increasingly more important in my life, discovering a wonderful new relationship just like you. That we never could have amongst JWs.
