Something odd just happened when I logged on!
by tornapart ini typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!
(the name was another member of this board).
i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?

Imitate Their Faith - Reference & Comments
by Bobcat inthis thread is similarly purposed to this one on the jeremiah book.. i intend it as a source for material and comments relating to the new imitate their faith book that came out at the 2013 wt district convention.. eventually, the book is going to be studied at the congregation book study.
(the book itself says so.
see the letter from the governing body, par.

Thanks for starting this Bobcat. We've got the new book at home and I intend to read it. These days I can never read any WT publication without questioning it or reading between the lines. There may be some interesting things in it but nothing they write can be taken at face value.
At least I can tell all my JW family (who know of my doubts) that I've read it. I've always been a reader and especially of history. I read the proclaimers book from cover to cover and felt quite shocked and surprised at the time, of all the WT history. Maybe that was the beginning of my 'awakening' so to speak. Not many JWs have read it all the way through. They should.

I think it may be happening that the username you see is someone who happens to log on at a similar time to you. As the name I saw and the name CuriousButterfly saw made posts at a similar time to when we did. Why it's happening, who knows......

Really iCeltic? How strange!! Well, glad it's not just me though! Must be a board glitch... I thought I was seeing things when I saw a different name, then I felt worried, then I thought if I should just log out and sign in again, then it just changed to my name as I was looking at it....
You too Curiousbutterfly? Wonder how many more it'll happen to......

What Is The "Typical" Elder In The Organization Like Now?
by minimus inwhen i was an elder, most of the elders were pretty independent 40 to 80 year olds.
they had no issue speaking up to the circuit overseer.
i wonder what the average elder is like now.

As I see it in our congregation they are a bunch of good, sincere guys trying to their best. Only one in his 30's, two over 60, the rest in between. Most of them have either got health problems themselves or serious family health problems. Most have full time jobs, homes to look after and families to care for.
My husband came off being an elder for a while and during that time, as he had no 'elder's duties' to perform he was actually able to spend more time with the brothers and sisters, talking to them after the meeting rather than being in constant 'elder's meetings'. He was able to help them more. However he saw the other elders struggling with all the stuff they had to do and felt bad about it. So he went back to it and once more is in the merry-go-round (or as I call it 'in the hamster wheel') of endless things to do with no time left for anyone or anything else.
Sometimes I wish we could just have a full time pastor, paid to care for the 'flock'. I don't know if it would work better, who knows.

I would think carefully about the bible account of Mary and Joseph. Although Mary had done nothing wrong, Joseph believed she had. He believed that she had been with another man. They were only engaged but to protect her he decided to secretly divorce her.
Once he had been told by God in the dream that he was to marry her, he did just that. However other people would clearly have been able to deduce in time that Mary had become pregnant before they married. Would that have been a problem? No, under the Israelite law if a single, unengaged man and woman had sex with each other then the man was simply to give her parents a dowrie and take her as his wife. Under Israelite law a man and woman who were engaged were as good as married.
Don't succumb to Watchtower laws. According to the bible, you have done nothing wrong.

Board of bitterness
by 1009 ini always was a critical jw, now df and agnost.
but still this religion fascinates me.
in my eyes most jw are very sincere, but dumb sheep.. this board is filled with ex-jw.

I'm not bitter. My family are JWs, my friends are JWs and I love them.
Do I have the truth? No... I find the more questions you ask the more there are to follow.
Do they have the truth? No! therein lies the problem... because they believe they do. Because they believe they have the truth it makes them very dogmatic and not open to any debate. You cannot question, you cannot doubt. if you do then you have to keep it secret.
They proclaim the organisation as God's. His channel of communication by which means we gain our salvation. The bible tells us that Jesus Christ is our salvation. This poses a dilemma to me.
Ultimately, I do not want a group of men in some other country telling me what I should do, think and say.

watchtower tones down apostate talk at august 3rd convention!
by nowwhat? inno mention of them being mentally diseased or using "lies" to deceive god's people, just that they are out to attract followers for themselves!.
p.s.
i was cringing at the thought of sitting for 3 1/2 hours for the afternoon session but fortunately my one kid got sick!!
