Look, Up in the Air...It's a Bird, it's a Plane...No, It's a JW!!
by Cold Steel infor you ex-jehovahs witnesses...and even you current ones...have you ever contemplated your future existence in paradise earth, should you be fortunate enough to end up there?
during those raucous, fun moments at the kingdom hall when you were contemplating eternity and having the times of your lives...did you ever speculate about what life would be like?
for example, would you have to walk everywhere or would you be able to fly around like superman?

I just read a book about an ex witch/satanist, who became a Mormon for a while. He wanted out of the satanist cult and felt the Mormons had some very similar things in their religion. he was in it for about 6 years and even got to wear the (what he called) 'Magic Underwear'. Like it gave him some kind of superpowers that he'd lost after leaving the satanists.
Sorry Cold Steel. Not meaning to be offensive at all. I think most JWs believe that the only difference between what they are now as humans and what they'll be in paradise is simply that they will never grow old and die. That's it really. No special superpowers. Also they believe that the ones that go to heaven will stay there and I guess they believe things will be cotrolled from heaven in an invisible way (much as they believe it happens now I think). I did have one sister who was 'of the anointed class' tell me she thought they would come down to earth and mix with us like angels. That was the first and only time I'd heard of this idea.

I'm a born in, my early/mid teen years were before '75 and yes, I remember all that stuff. Assembly talks, I remember the book 'Life Everlasting in the Freedom of the Sons of God. It was red. We studied it at the book study group.
Everybody at the time believed that 6,000 years of man's existence was coming to an end and therefore Armageddon would not be long behind. Two of my parent's friends sold their houses and went into rented because 'the time was short'. Fortunately my parents didn't but it didn't stop them thinking that I wouldn't finish school. Well, I finished, my children finished and my grandchild will soon be starting....
Any good KH library will have that book and many old bound volumes of WT and Awake. Many older brothers and sisters will have them going back pre '75. My elderly parents have volumes going back to the late 50s. See what you can find.

What was your "Aha!" moment?
by Hortenzie infor me it was when i learned that gb makes their decisions by 2/3 majority vote, not by direction of holy spirit..

The 'overlapping generation' at the DC 2010 was just another doubt added to my collection of doubts over the years but for me the 'Aha!' moment was as I was reading CoC... once I had finished it (after 3 days) that was it.. I had seen the light!

Baptismal regeneration
by Laika ini've decided to start a thread on christian theology, wherein i will lay out what i believe scripture teaches about baptism... because i can.
throughout the first 1500 years of christian history, it was universally understood that the christian is 'born again' at water baptism (and the majority of christians still hold to this) but then many christians started to argue that baptism was just a symbol of obedience, but i posit that nowhere in the bible will you find a verse that claims baptism is just a symbol, instead scriptural references to baptism always claim that it actually achieves something:.
john 3:5 - born of water and spirit.

I think that baptism by water and baptism by spirit are two separate occurrences but are linked. As anonymouz said one can come before the other, not necessarily at the same time.
The two baptisms of John the Baptist and Jesus were two differnt things. Those bapstised by John were as a symbol of repentance, those baptised in Jesus name were in recognition of him as the Messiah, the Son of God. The baptism of the spirit comes as a result of that recognition whether it comes before or after baptism.
@Kate. If you find you are losing your faith but really would like to keep it, try reading a book called Disappointment with God by Philip Yancy. It's excellent for anyone stuggling with their faith and wondering if God is really there or really cares.
