JWs aren't stupid
by cognisonance inthe title is a bit of click bait.
but here's the alternative title: what stupid beliefs/ideas did you have while an active jw.. i think the majority of jws that don't have obvious mental health issues are not stupid, just un/under-educated.
for example, i now accept evolution as a thing, not a controversy or conjecture.

Beards - September 2016 Watchtower
by Listener inthe issue of whether beards are acceptable or not is addressed in the september 2016 watchtower - well sort of.
it is as clear as mud as to whether they are allowed in places like australia, usa and britain.. 17. what are some factors that may affect whether a brother wears a beard?17 what about the propriety of brothers wearing a beard?
the mosaic law required men to wear a beard.

I remember my bible teacher telling me to shave and I sarcastically said "Jesus has a beard." as I pointed to a depiction of Jesus in heaven from one of the magazines.
Him: "Well thats just a picture."
me: "why would they illustrate him like this if it was frowned upon?"I don't remember the answer but it was pretty lackluster.
The same thing when I told him I wanted a tattoo. He brought up that old testament scripture about no tattoos. Of course my response was that we are no longer under the law. He said It's not a sin, but I wouldn't get as many privileges in the congregation. so I said "So I can get one. Thanks!" -

Similar but not the same
by Deleteandrestart inafter watching ceders you tube video on muslim and jw shunning, i thought i'd look at some other ex religious you tubers, so i looked at the mormon ones, .
theres a lot of them but what struck me was the very similar mindsets and the way the internet made them start to question from a critical thinking point of view their own faith , it was just like another brand of the exact same thing and these people were experiencing the same thoughts as we get when we start to leave/question the "truth ",.
the main difference seems t be that jw shunning is totally merciless and never ending, and no real forgiveness takes place unless you cave in .

The problem is that JWs think that they don't harbor any animosity towards disfellowshipped ones even though their attitudes don't change. -

What should I visit while in New York

If you walk through Times Squares, please don't get in anybody's way. I've lived in NYC my entire life and its annoying when tourist stop in the middle of the sidewalk to take pictures. It's like a roadway. and if you need to stop, go off to the sides. That being said, Chinatown is a great place to visit as well as the Brooklyn Bridge if you can ignore Bethel right next to it. -

Awake #4/2016: Homosexuality
by Designer Stubble inthe new awake is up on jw.orgwith the legalization of gay marriage in many countries, they decided it was time to show: "what does thebible say about homosexuality?
"does the bible promote prejudice?still, some people would say that the bible promotes prejudice against homosexuals and that those who adhere to itsmoral code are intolerant.
‘the bible was written at a time when people were narrow-minded,’ they claim.

Weird how they say they're against homosexual conduct, not homosexual people themselves. Yet they use the phrase "This is what some of you were". One denotes an action. They should have wrote "This is what some of you DID"

Remember When Something Bad Would Happen And You Felt Its Really What They Deserved?
by minimus ini was thinking about christmas and how celebrants may lose their home and all their possessions because a christmas candle burned down the house.. witnesses smugly would say, "well, they shouldn't have been celebrating the holidays!
".....yet if a jw got into a fatal car accident while going to a convention, it was clearly satan's doing..

Wow, thats just cruel that people would say that. I never thought that way. It was one of the first things I caught when I was waking up. The mentality that worldly people deserved whatever misfortune but JWs were targets of satan. There was no fairness. Jws got all the excuses. -

why not move? I'd love it if I could. I get paid a little above minimum wage but it's still under $15 and it would help immensely. I live in NYC where everything is expensive as hell. I was born and raised here so I never had a choice. My parents are legal immigrants but don't get paid much. My mom doesn't have a job. My dad uses his entire paycheck on rent and electricity. I got my own bills as well. after bills, I probably have only maybe $100 a week to myself. I could save that up but wait, what happens if I have to buy food, things for the apt, etc. Ideally, you'd want to have 7 months of rent before moving out, just to be stable. But it's harder than it seems. Cuz I need to move to somewhere I never been, with no guarantee of a job, get a car, take care of all my household needs and you get the gist.
I work with people that work 3 jobs and no days off and they are fucking exhausted. Know how many times I hear people say "all I do is work." how many people I know that work from 6AM-11PM mon-sat and then work only 12 hour days on sundays?
"Sometimes I wanna move out the country and never come back" I hear this a lot. So screw you if you think people are better off killing themselves physically and mentally than to pay them a little more.
And before the "go to college" argument comes out. Sometimes it doesn't work out. In my case, I qualified for almost no financial aid and took out $23,000 in loans, some of my friends, more. And I work with people that had to drop out of college because they needed to work just to survive for today. -

I bought property, not that far from Watchtower land in Warrwick NY.
by Dunedain ini wound up buying 26 acres of land in upstate ny, a few years ago.
i bought it strictly as an investment, due to rumors of there going to be huge development of the area.
it seems like casinos, walmart, and tons of building have started in the area, or are now breaking ground, since i purchased it.

Did an EX-JW wake you up to TTATT or did you put the effort to wake up yourself?
by John Aquila inhow many of us were woken up by some apostate yelling false prophets at a convention?.
how many of us were woken up by someone holding a sign and yelling, what happened to 1975.
how many of us were coerced to investigate the wt because some ex-jw pulled up a bunch of old watchtowers magazines and told us to read the false predictions?.

I remember going on the internet and on social media, I typed in "Jehovah's witnesses" to see if I could follow some. But I randomly found out a little information on a post from an "apostate". I always prided myself on telling people that I'm a jdub because its the truth and if mormons had truth I would be one of them. And when I read that post I knew that I have to research more. I thought that if Jdub land had the truth, looking at apostate material wouldn't be a problem.
And here I am.

knock knock
by Sabin inif jw`s come knocking at your door, do you open it & engage in conversation, tell them to sod off, or just not answer the door?.
my husband`s has asked me not to answer the door to them if he isn't here?
he hate`s the fact that they make a point of calling when they know he will be at work.

I don't answer at all. I've already wasted enough of my time with them.
