Hi,
I need some advice guys. How do you get people to mind their own buiseness without coming off as rude?
I was invited to a jw gathering last night. It was at my study conductor's place (for those of you who are wondering why a wordly person like myself would get invited anyway). There was this couple who kept asking me questions about my life. What , in the beggining, seemed like an innocent attempt to get to know me better quickly turned into an interrogator. They startered with basic questions such as, "which university you go to", "are you parents against your religious beliefs", "do you have any siblings" ect. And then, before I knew it they were all up in my business:
-what are your parents names?
-say my parents great grand-parents name
-What do they do for a leaving?
-I don't know if my parents would agree with me sharing this info with strangers in their absence...
-Do your parents come pick you when finish work?
-no
-What do you do in your spare time?
-I like reading and watching tv shows
-like what
-Grey's anatomy and documentaries on serial killers and psychology.
-you are a very pretty lady. You must have a lot of friends. Do you?
-thanks for the complinent if you meant it. I have a lot of acquittances from work and school, but very few friends and I'm fine with it.
-what about boys? Do you have friends of the opposite sex?
-no
-Do you sometimes have to work with a male partner on school work?
-Only if I want to.
-That's a cute ring that you are wearing. Who got you that?
-a little bird :-p. Do you know where the restroom is? I need to call my mother before she starts to worry.
I really try to be as vague as possible in my answers, but wow!!!! I'm wondering if at that point I should have let the couple know that I was uncomfortable with their questions. If they weren't my elders, I would have told them to mind their business.
For the introverted ex-jws/jws out there, how did you manage to protect your pravicy from the brothers and sisters without compromising your good manners.
i love the fact what he said about reading crises of conscious: if you read that book as a jw and still think the wt has the truth, something is wrong with you....the song played at the end is simply classic and very appropriate.

greetings,it seems that jw immediately assume that all "wordly" people (as they like to call it) are immoral and unworthy of their trust.
i sort of understand how it can be dangerous for a christian to have association with someone who doesn't share their values, but don't you think that some members take the conceal lied in corinthians 15:33 to the extreme?
what about romans 2:14?
wasanelder One: "everyone is horny" and paranoïd.
well that explains why the elder's wife kept looking at the back seat to check on her son and me (We were seating next to each other) on our way to the 2 days assembly. She kept looking back and asked :"are you guys ok? Are you guys hungry? Are guys cold?" ...That was in the days where I was in good therm with her family. I will never accept a ride from the people again.

Please, tell me that He was punished by the law for that! Why were you and your family shunned when you were the ones who got hurt? How is your daughter doing now?

I confirm that their minds are twisted if they thought that I would have taken advantage of the fact I was alone with a man to have sex (IN A CAR). whatever...

I haven't taken any decision concerning where I want to stand. While i'm still studying, and doing my researches simultaneously, I keep attending the meetings. I'm a very analytic person. I like to collect data before drawing a conclusion. while I trust you guys when you say that my experience isn't unic, I think that it is the way it is mainly because I am in a congregation where the prominent members, that is the presiding-elder's family, hate me. I remember my experience being so mucn more pleasant when I was in their good side. Since I don't kiss people's buttocks, the only way I can be in a state of serinity and quieteness again is by switching congregation, which i'll do anyway.
@the rest of you
thanks for giving me some clarification. I had no idea JWs couldn't give to members of the opposite sex a ride. I tought the elder's wife was concerned only because she didn't trust ME personally. If I knew that it was a general rule, It certainly wouldn't have affected me. I overreacted...
did any of you guys disregard the wt recommendations and pursue a career.
if you answer "yes": was your journey easy?
are you happy with the end result?

Greetings,
It seems that JW immediately assume that all "wordly" people (as they like to call it) are immoral and unworthy of their trust. My study conductor was looking for someone to dropped me home yesterday after the evening meeting. Her husband (who is an elder) was handling some important business it seems. She knew I had to get home early so she tried to get another sister to drop me home. Finally another elder (the presiding-elder) asked his son to give me a ride. His wife didn't even let the man finish his sentence, she interrupted him and demanded that their four daughters come with us in the car. Needless to say that I was very offended by this intervention. What was this lady thinking? Was she afraid that the very petit woman that I am could possibly rape her full grown 26-years-old son? What gave her the right to insinuate such a thing in front of my study conductor? How shameful! It hurt my feelings and my proud so much that I lied and said that my dad could come pick me up, and got the hell out of there. I took the bus... After awhile the discomfort dissipated, and I realized that it was actually a good thing that the elder's children didn't drive me home. I don't want anything to do with them.
Some members are so afraid of worldly people that they end up acting in a way that isn't representative of the bible's guideline. Although I'm not a JW, I was raised in a very conservative way: I carry myself as a respectable lady, I dress with class and modesty, I talk only when i'm asked to, I don't display too much emotion, I avoid drawing unecessary attention on me, and most importantly I have good values and morales. Yet, it seems that i'm unworthy of being trusted as a person. That's one one thing to want to limit contact with "non-christians". But to treat them like inferior creatures is wrong! Point Blank!
Were you guys guilty of this type of behaviour when you were in? Did you finally come to realize that Non-JWscan be just as good or bad as JWs? Share your thoughts please
