Talk to my Dad about beards.
by LovingLifeNow inso i spoke to my elder dad the other day, and he asked if i still am sporting a beard.
i said yes, then i said, "i thought the society said its ok to have a neat trimmed beard now?
" he said "no, no, no..if you read the article , it says in countries where it is accepted" so my response was "ummm, its pretty accepted here in america"..which he says "it reflects your spirituality" "if another wittness saw you, they would know you are weak"...i was like, "ok, i don't get it, and i follow christ/god, not men..." then he said in his hall" if a brother came in with a beard , he would not have privelages" then i just gave up, and tried to change the subject..ugggggggggg if these people would just listen to themselves , they would see the sillyness of there teachings...

What I find most galling about this is the vast majority of companies used to carry out the work are owned by...BROTHERS! Ones who could then be fully involved in the construction. Wow, what a coincidence! Sole traders dint get paid for using their acumen, not even expenses!

My Dad wants to study with me
by BlackWolf inso my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.
the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.
he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.

Maybe you should accept the offer of study (display a humble, meek attitude) and, as you're going through the book, then voice/raise any concerns or objections or doubts that you may have. That way you've got a reasonable grounding for expressing what you think, along with kosher material in black and white that can't be argued against and will be a useful point of reference. But please don't make any commitments or bow to any ultimatums you make be given.

Knock knock."Who's there? Two elders!!
by Darkknight757 inso today was a cold and snowy day in my neck of the woods and the wife and i were just chilling around the house waiting to go to the church tonight for a candle lighting service when lo and behold we get a knock on the door.
yup, 2 elders from my old hall.
i figured they were fishing for some time so i invited them in and gave them some coffee and we talked about everything that happened and why we walk away from the jw's.

Deciduous trees lay dormant throughout the winter, alive but with no leaves, until there is enough heat and sunlight for them to come into leaf.... Possible? -

"It is the victims right to approach authorities" The weak excuse used by the society
by stuckinarut2 inwe have seen that the society falls back on the line "it is the victims right to approach the authorities" during all the abuse claims.. they use this excuse to try and defend the passive lack of action in failing to report suspected cases of abuse.. a comparison came to mind:.
if we came across a person lying in the street who says they were hit by a car, would we say "it is your absolute right to call the paramedics and police"?.
or would we take the initiative and call those authorities ourselves to help the person?.

It's actually a responsibility, not a right

Sheeplike?? A Christian Requirement or WT Controlling mechanism?
by BluesBrother inwhen we were practising witnesses we heard a lot about the need to be "sheeplike" , having a sheeplike attitude and personality .
a typical comment might be :.
"lasting peace & happiness just ahead" 2009 p 30.

Sex & Divorce
by IMHO in1. you can't have sex until your married.. 2. you're not married until you've gone through a legal ceremony.. 3. you get 'unscriptually' (although legally) divorced therefore not 'free' to remarry'.
4. can you still 'scriptually' have sex with your former spouse?.

They do say no, giving the reasoning that that 'benefit' comes from a loving relationship that is a gift from God, intertwined with a relationship with him (Q from R many years ago). But it's such a grey area, as I put this scenario forward myself. Bit 'chicken-and-egg'. But IMHO you CAN still have sex (assuming, of course, that you're both still on speaking terms/friends), because Jah's law is higher than that of the land, and he says you're still married until/unless one of the parties commits adultery. But you can't have it both ways.
