So my girlfriends, friend has invited me to her little boy's christening. 6 months ago if you'd asked me this I'd have recoiled in horror. ME?!! In a CATHOLIC CHURCH?!!! Baptizing a baby?!!!
But since I've left and stopped reading the mags/books and the bible and stopped praying to the invisible catholic mistranslation in the sky i have no problem attending. This morning my gf and i were laughing because i dont know what goes on. She told me the priest is gay and his boyfriend left his wife so that they could live together. That we'll all sing a hymn but no one actually knows the words so we'll all be miming (just like my old KH then). Afterward the priest may shake hands with you walking out of the church.
I've never been inside a church. Or experienced another religion's service. This'll be fun.

[Pale Emperor puts on his JW head for a moment, the head that could invent reasons at the drop of a hat]
ahem... i believe because animals were peoples property they would be destroyed by invading Israelite so that nothing of the old inhabitants remained.
As killing the animal that was raped, well, in "gods eyes" it would be seen as unclean. Not fit for sacrifice or food.
[Pale Emperor puts on his reasonable head again]
Interesting article here from a Jewish scholar who claims that the animals were created as potential mates for Adam but that he rejected them all. I've heard this claim before from Rabbi Mordechai Kraft.

Final Rejection
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini have just returned from visiting friends and family.
when i was disassociated my parents had contact with me a few months before my dad was diagnosed with cancer.
i was reinstated 20 months after his funeral and then they disfellowshipped me 5 months later as they are convinced i had not changed my life enough to be a jw again.

Terrible. The scriptures do say people will have "no natural affection". For a mother to disown her own daughter because a magazine told her so i not normal. It's not natural.
I hope you live a happy, purposeful and loving life without the Watchtower - as im sure you will.

Does becoming (or remaining) one of Jehovah's Witnesses result in Poverty? Pew Research results differ from Watchtower claims.
by Balaamsass2 in"raised in the truth" during the 50s, 60s,and 70s i repeatedly read and heard from the platform how reading the magazines weekly "was the equivalent of a college education" and how many had turned their family economic situation around by being "trustworthy" and giving up expensive bad habits most "worldly people" had.
sounded good.. what is the reality?
how does avoiding higher education, and then spending up to 20 hours a week getting ready for, commuting, and then participating in meetings and field service affect family finances?.
-
pale.emperor
Just getting to the meetings cost me £80 a month in commuting. That's quite an expense for a family of 2 adults and 1 baby and only the father working.
Never donated a penny to the org in all my life. Used to feel bad about it, I'm proud of it now though.

Depression Is A Part Of This Life by Brother Nathan Fuel.
This talk also touches on the subject of family members being disfellowshipped, feel depressed? Well it's their fault you're depressed!
It's sickening that these men have zero knowledge of the serious illness that is depression. Rather than offering any real advice they blame the sufferer or their disfellowshipped family members.

Counting time
by Emma ini may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.
i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.
yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.
-
pale.emperor
When i was "in" we were all told that sometimes it's a good idea to stand away from the carts so that people are more likely to approach and take a mag/book.
I've never done cart witnessing, never wanted to. Only those "exemplary" witnesses can do it... exemplary meaning they're just like you and i except they just didn't tell the elders if they done anything wrong.
My mum does it, both my sisters and one of my brother in law's and one of my brothers. My other brother in law is not allowed to do it because he has a beard. (seriously).

JW's Are All About Free Will Now
by pale.emperor infrom the january 2017 watchtower:.
first paragraph reads: when faced with making a personal choice, one woman told a friend: “do not make me think; just tell me what to do.
that is easier.” the woman preferred being told what to do instead of using a precious gift from her creator, the gift of free will.

From the January 2017 Watchtower:
First paragraph reads: WHEN faced with making a personal choice, one woman told a friend: “Do not make me think; just tell me what to do. That is easier.” The woman preferred being told what to do instead of using a precious gift from her Creator, the gift of free will. What about you? Do you like making your own decisions, or do you prefer that others decide for you? How do you view the matter of free will?
This all sounds very nice, but then the study goes on to basically say free will is great, so make sure you use it the way Jehovah (or the bOrg) tell you.
13 All of us have freedom of choice regarding associations, styles of dress and grooming, and entertainment. However, our freedom could become “a cover for doing wrong” if we chose to become slaves of our own fleshly desires or if we adopted the disgraceful fads and trends of the world. (Read 1 Peter 2:16.) Instead of using our freedom “as an opportunity to pursue fleshly desires,” we want to be determined to make choices that help us to heed the admonition: “Do all things for God’s glory.”—Gal. 5:13; 1 Cor. 10:31.
14 Another way to guard our gift of free will is to put our trust in Jehovah and let him guide us within the protective boundaries that he has set for us. He alone is ‘the One teaching us to benefit ourselves, the One guiding us in the way we should walk.’ (Isa. 48:17) We must humbly acknowledge the truthfulness of the inspired words: “Man’s way does not belong to him. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.” (Jer. 10:23) May we never fall into the trap of choosing to rely on our own understanding, as did Adam and the rebellious Israelites. Instead, may we “trust in Jehovah with all [our] heart.”—Prov. 3:5.

Hypothetical: If WTS Reformed...?
by Cold Steel inas i said in the subject line, this is purely hypothetical.
what do you think would happen if the wtbts leaders decided to reboot some of the organization's more controversial practices.
not that they would deny their claims to be jehovah's earthly representatives, nor the key elements of their eschatology; but in administrative outlooks.

pale.emperor
If these changes were actually implemented, particularly the shunning, and my family suddenly said they'd talk to me again i'd tell them to take a hike. Shunning your own flesh and blood for simply not wanting to be a JW is just wrong.

Im so glad im a not JW anymore. This is not a healthy relationship at all. She'd be hell of earth to live with (in fact i dated someone very much like her for 3 years when i was younger).
As for him, he's also not someone i would want to be around. One of those Jdubs that are into sports and Jehovah and have nothing else about them worth talking about.
