I have enjoyed the shunning in the past. But why not now?

i am prepared for shunning when i send in my da letter.

my dad was furious when he comes back from overseas and find out that i have da myself.

yes, i do regret not talking to him first before i da...i also know that my mom is crying in her room.. but they didn't chase me out of the house.

Im having trouble deducing your approximate age from your writing but you mention you're still in school and drink/smoke so im guessing you're in your teens. The way your mom is treating you actually is not as bad as most JW parents. You're still living there so they wont be commanded to shun you entirely unless you leave the family home.

My advice would be to be the kindest, nicest, most helpful person you can be. This will really surprise them. They may not treat you any better at first but eventually your actions will really surprise them because they're expecting ex-JWs to be bad, drunkards, sex-mad, chain smoking, bad associations.

Be a great son to them both. Even if they treat you bad, you can at least say you're not the one in the wrong.

Yes, we care if you're alive or dead. Keep posting here. You're bound to have a load of emotions going through this, almost all of us did. It gets better i promise.

An honest question for those who were "born-in"

just wanted to ask a question of those who were born in as i was.. how did you feel to have been "privileged to have been born into the only true faith - the truth"?.

did this make you feel confident, or proud - or perhaps arrogant?.

how did you reconcile the fact that 99% of the earth's population was not born "into the truth"?.

I felt fortunate. I remember even before i started school i would talk to Jehovah in my head all the time. Like he was my best mate. It felt like he was really there, just for me.

Did this make you feel confident, or proud - or perhaps arrogant?

I was a shy boy until the age of 18. So growing up i felt confident that i was in the one true religion, confident that i'd never die of old age but i wouldn't say arrogant. I was genuinely interested in people and what they believe and why. Of course, i had an answer for all of their personal beliefs so, maybe i was a little bit arrogant without knowing.

I just looked at it like being an Israelite slave in Babylon. These people were mostly all bad and that Jehovah will surely keep the good ones alive even if they're not JW... wont he?

As a child, did you ever question these things?

Nope. Not until i was about 19. Then dismissed those doubts until the cult got nuttier and nuttier when i was in my late 20s.

well.....they showed that shunning video again.

you know...the one where goldilocks gets disfellowshipped- and the parents look across the hall at her with disdain.....yeah that video.. i was interested to see what kind of answers would be given during the discussion after the video and some of the reactions.

everyone sat there gormlessly staring at the video.

They always use the example of Korah and Moses with this. They fail to see that that they are Korah, not us.

Korah challenges the authority of Moses despite all the evidence that YHWH was using him (miracles etc.). Moses never got it wrong. Moses didnt flip-flop.

Do we see any evidence that YHWH is using the GB? No. Did Korah have any evidence that YHWH would choose him? No. Both Korah and the GB assume a position that is not theirs.

The 'Kingdom Ministry School' is the 'school' for elders/ms's - see Drearyweather's post above.
The 'Theocratic Ministry School' is the weekly congregation 'school' which became included within the CLAM meeting.

What am i thinking of? Where they just dropped the number 3 talks entirely?

I remember when they replaced the Kingdom Ministry School with the Christian Life And Ministry. I used to actually enjoy giving talks from the platform, bible history and theology in general was a massive interest of mine so i loved it. When they knocked all that on the head, my elder father in law said (with a big smile on his face) "see, this is why the GB have changed it. People getting too proud and making it about themselves."

It never was about me, it was about actually enjoying an assignment.

They do seem to be cutting back on the number of live talks and demos. Remember the dramas in the conventions? Dont see them anymore either.

Here's hoping it'll fizzle into an internet televangelist religion like so many on TV asking for donations and selling bible courses for a "love gift donation of $49"

Saying hello for first time

i have been sneakily looking at this forum, almost every day, ever since it began!

it has taken me till now to actually register and contribute.

(actually i did register with a different name in the beginning but never commented).. i am a pimo elder with a fairly long history of senior "positions" in the organization.

I've been awake about 3 years, DA'd 15 months ago (then DF'd anyway for "apostasy"). I claimed Jesus was the mediator for all mankind, GB said otherwise. So that made me the apostate. You couldn't make it up could you?

When i first left i was like you are now, not really sure what to believe. Although im now an atheist, i love many things the Buddha said, many are strikingly similar to Jesus words but pre-date him by 500 years. A great book to read is Teachings Of The Buddha.

It's great once you get to live your life on your own terms. I have a friend who is an ex-elder. Really great to see you here. As regards to identity, sometimes we change the town, names, dates etc in our stories to keep our privacy. (Although personally, im more than happy for people to know my city).

Dubstepped it right though, although it'd depend on how much of an asshole the elders were, they could get him on Brazen Conduct.

BUT REMEMBER!! If he's turns up to the JC, they take that as "evidence that he recognizes the authority of that body". I'd tell him not to turn up, or better still tell them he doesn't recognize the authority of the body and then not turn up.

New "Annointed" Brother In My Old Hall...

i've only just stopped laughing.. in my old hall there's a brother who's now claiming to be of the anointed.. he's 28.. i do wonder if he's doing this for attention, if he's awake and messing with them, or if he really is that deluded.

when i was in he was an ms. which surprised even me because only a year earlier than that he was "a bit of a lad", is rubbish at talks and relies on his elder uncle to get him out of trouble all the time.. i guess this now means he's get his pick of jw sisters.

he's been after the same one as the rest of his peers since 2014..

Hey PE just a slighly off topic thought but would it be posible to wake someone up from their cult indoctrination via hypnosis?

Yes. The approach would be to "help" them realize that it's much nicer not being in a cult. Except, if they 100% believe and have zero doubt then it wouldn't work. But you could embed a post-hypnotic suggestion to shout "what a load of old sh*t!" every time someone says amen. That'd be fun.
