Fear of Dying
by SplaneThisToMe indid anyone else develop a weird fear of dying and death after leaving jw?
i recently left and have realized for the first time in my life that i’m not going to live forever.
anyone else have these same feelings toward discovering your own mortality?

I dont fear death. When i was a JW i actually did want to die because i was so burned out.
I think as life leaves ones body it's an experience you'll have that you will never be able to tell anyone how it feels. So it's an experience i want to have one day.
Death is simply not existing, i've not existed before so i've nothing to fear there. If medical science could make me live to 200 years old i wouldn't want it. The thought of the people i love dying all around me, and my seeing my daughter die before me would be the greatest sorrow of all.
Im a huge fan of philosopher Alan Watts. Here's what he had to say on the subject:

Conversation with my 3yo this morning:
Me: Hey, it's <friend in her nursery> birthday in a few days
Her: Jehovah doesn't like birthdays
Me: That's ok, he's not real
Her: He's just pretend. I like birthdays.
Me: Me too. And Christmas
Her: I love Christmas!
Me: Well guess what?
Her: What?
Me: I like Christmas too AND... your mum is gonna do Christmas as well now. But Grandad (her mums dad) and nana (her mums mum) dont like Christmas
Her: That's because they think Jehovah is real
Me: Yes
Her: But he's just pretend.
Me: Yep. I used to think he was real when i was little
Her: You were very silly daddy
Me: I know.

Tattoos?
by Wild_Thing inif seems to be quite fashionable nowadays for ex-jws to get a tattoo or a series of tattoos to symbolize either their time spent in the watchtower or their escape, and i kind of don't get it.
i don't understand why someone would want a constant reminder on their body of such a horrible period in their life.
on another forum, one woman shared that she was getting 25 bees tattooed all over her body to represent the 25 years she spent in the org.

I know what you mean. I deliberately put off getting a tattoo because it's so cliché.
There are times where i think of getting a "really cool" tattoo, but i make myself wait a month. By the time the month has rolled round i'd changed my mind on the design. So i think it's safer to not get one at all.

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

lol an “overlapping” generation is fact.
If your parents generation began in 1960, anyone born during their lifetime is their contemporary (overlap). Anyone born after your last parent dies is not their contemporary (overlap). A contemporary can carry on that generation for 100 additional years before it totally dies out.
Easy.
And yet you never thought this until David Splane told you that's how it works.

Delusion and lack of critical thinking is strong here.

Do you believe in an overlapping generation Bobby?

Every member has a copy of WT Library, with literature dating back to 1950.
You all sound ridiculous.
But the thing is, some of the articles and wording has been edited on the WT Library. And why only back to 1950? Rutherfords books were, allegedly, written under Gods instruction. Why would JWs destroy these vital words from Jehovah to his creatures?
"Enlightenment proceeds from Jehovah... and is given to the faithful anointed.... the remnant are instructed by the angels of the Lord. The remnant do not hear audible sounds, because such is not necessary. Jehovah has provided his own good way to convey thoughts to the minds of his anointed ones." Preparation (1933) p.64
As were C.T. Russells books. They were, allegedly, written by Gods mouthpiece.
"No, the truths I present, as God's mouthpiece, were not revealed in visions or dreams, nor by God's audible voice, nor all at once, but gradually, especially since 1870, and particularly since 1880. Neither is this clear unfolding of truth due to any human ingenuity or acuteness of perception, but to the simple fact that God's due time has come; and if I did not speak, and no other agent could be found, the very stones would cry out. The following history is given not merely because I have been urged to give a review of God's leadings in the path of light, but specially because I believe it to be needful that the truth be modestly told, that misapprehensions and prejudicial misstatements may be disarmed, and that our readers may see how hitherto the Lord has helped and guided. Then I knew why the Lord had led me to it so slowly and cautiously. I needed a special preparation of heart for the full appreciation of all it contained, and I was all the more assured that it was not of my own wisdom; for if of my own why would it not have come at once?" Eulogies
by redundantcartworker ini recently attended a non jw funeral at a local church.
during the service, a couple of friends/relatives of the deceased eloquently spoke for a few minutes about the deceased with some of their fond memories and gave heartfelt, respectful tributes.. would i ( a non jw) be given a few minutes to speak at either of my jw parents funerals at the kingdom hall ?.
i guess i already know the answer, but if the answer is "no", then why not and how would they hide the heartlessness of refusing ?

Not at the KH, but here in England at least we have another little eulogy at the crematorium where anyone who wants to can get up and speak.

New here...
by Jacobi inmy name is jacobi, i am a born-in but mentally out for more or less a decade at this point (although it was cradual) and about 40yo.
i don't want to say a lot about my family, but it is a mix of going-through-the-motions, semi-actives (but mentally in), some who have left for a few reasons and one really depressed pioneer.
because people fade in and out i have managed to slide under the radar and i keep up apperances of not being all-out apostate but i completed my fade about years ago (it also helped i moved to another part of the country).. i might rub some of you the wrong way because of my views on different things like politics.. i am not a trump supporter at all and neither are most people in my country.

Welcome friend. Yes we're a mix of different political opinions, some theists, some atheists yet we manage to all get along (most of the time)
