Actually, if you think about it, being guided by holy spirit should produce more accurate results.
If i were to visit a museum and was guided around i'd learn a lot more because the guide tells you all about the things you're looking at.
what is the difference (if any) between being guided by holy spirit and being inspired by holy spirit?
is it just semantics?.

i'd like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our newest jw apologist jtrottigy.
.
he'll likely only be here for a few days like most jw defenders before he runs away when presented with his own doctrine.. so far he's already said some hilarious stuff, like "there's no such thing as nepotism in jehovah's organisation", "confidentiality is paramount to elders" and, my personal favourite "the overlapping generation is so simple to understand".. yh don't think i don't remember you from jwtalk..

Yh don't think I don't remember you from JWTalk.
one thing i don't miss about being a jobo, is those families that ruled the congregations.. i've seen how the elders protected their own using our old friend, nepotism.. eg.
the son of an elder that stole a car and was prosecuted but 'let off' because it was kept secret and all his relatives were elders in the same congregation.
it certainly went on when i was an elder but i wasn't one of the 'in' crowd.
Elders daughter living with worldly guy but it was spun that they were just roommates. They ended up getting married.
It never ceases to amaze me how many elders daughters have managed to leave the org without being DFd. I know of at least 4 that left and are now living/married to non JWs and they're not being shunned at all.

I know of an elder that had sex with a min servant's fiancee. He was reproved, she was DF'd. Never did understand why... it takes two.
And i only know of this because my ex-father in law is an elder and used to tell us lots of things after a few glasses of vino.
Needless to say, the MS marriage was off.
(For those in Liverpool, the elders initials was G.N).
i was shocked recently to see on social media a couple pictures of jw sisters at a convention working as parking "attendants".
i put that title in quotation marks because they still don't get the official attendant badge like the male parking attendants do, only the reflective vest.
has anybody else heard of this .
Who remembers one of the sisters reading the group study book with a tea towel on her head? I do!
How demeaning.
i just got my first peek at jwtalk via a link posted elsewhere.
i have been hearing about this forum for a while now, but never checked it out.
my question is this: is this site sanctioned by the wbts/gb/fds/yhwh?
It's VERY controlled. Every post you make has to be vetted by a mod before it's posted. AND the mods take the liberty of rewording your posts and even the title.
Very frustrating.
Unless you wish to post your gushing worship of the Governing Body or demonize ex-members the forum is not worth it.
And, no, the Watchtower society would never sanction that site. The people who run it are clearly wannabe elders. They even talk to you like an elder when they PM you. One of them even posted claiming that they disagreed with another poster so asked "can someone adjust my thinking here?..." - literally asking to be told what to think by another JW.
i'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.
All good answers here, and they're all correct.
However... that fact that a JW is dating at 15 in the first place speaks volumes to me about this boy, also, the fact that he's dating a non JW speaks even clearer. Either his parents dont know about him dating at all (most likely) because any JW parent would be absolutely livid at their 15yo dating a "worldly". Or his parents do know, if they do and they're fine with it then they're not strong in the religion and probably inactive but still call themselves JW.
This actually could be your opportunity to help this boy out of the cult. Be really nice and blow the JW stereotype of what non JWs are like. They're told that non JWs are greedy, lying, sinful, proud and quick to anger.

I used to be the sound desk guy in my old congregation. It was supposed to be on a rota basis but the other brothers on the list would never turn up. Sometimes I'd be running the sound desk, roving mics, and platform mics. In the end I shown my then-wife how to work the sound desk and she did it while I did mics.
Next thing you know the elders started volunteering to do mics just so there wasn't a woman (shock horror!) working the sound.
Little did they know she'd been running the sound desk perfectly capably for weeks while I sat next to her following the meeting taking it easy.
the guy everyone loves to hate, bob, has come up with a classic:.
redefining the concept of "critical thinking" when it comes to jws.. he quite correctly states the need to use critical thinking when reading the bible, yet we all know that pimi jws don't have the first clue what "critical thinking" really means, especially on a thread fawning over how great the gb are and guessing who will be presenting the next jwb!.
the link to the actual comment is:.
I so get your line of reasoning - but I have to say I winced when I saw what you wrote back to the moderator
And yet in the real world, replying to admin staff, your boss or even the manager of a hotel is expected and allowed. Not on JWTalk!

PE, didn't realize you got booted.
What was the final straw?Did they give you the courtesy of an explanation for it? Or did they judge you as apostate scum, beneath their contempt?

I claimed to not understand the overlapping generation teaching - then later said i dont fully believe it and im waiting on new light from Jehovah. Next thing you know, I received the following email:
Dear XXXX
Welcome to jwtalk.net. We hope you enjoy our community.
We understand you are new here and maybe haven't found your balance yet. We are concerned a little with your comment about the overlapping generation teaching. This comment is opposite what the Bible and the FDS indicates.
The Bible is clear in context that there is only ONE generation made up of two groups who's lives overlap.
Your comment is suggesting that the bible is inaccurate about the generation overlap and this is not in harmony with our beliefs. Please be mindful we will not allow blatant contradictions to be posted here and such can result in warnings and eventual dismissal.
Please familiarize yourself with our terms of use, sit back and enjoy your time here. We strive to make this a safe on line haven.
I humbly asked for more clarification, presenting myself as an avid bible student who is confused by the teaching - that then resulted in this email:
I have a feeling you don't talk to the GB or even have much respect for their opinion anyway.
We have decided you are not a good fit for our site.
I disagreed with the GB and that was it. The fact that I claimed to believe the bible and even humbly asked for help understanding the GB teaching using the bible resulted in my ban.
And they say they dont follow the GB...
