Cancel the biggest moneymaker the society has? No!!
The "deficit" scam has been working for decades, as any unscrupulous businessman would tell you - follow the money. And they will.
with the rumored changes or deletion of the regional/district conventions ... does anyone know if the organization will cancel them all together or just reduce their duration from 3 to 2 days, so they can be slotted into local assembly halls easier?.
no-zombie.

bible contains too much human thinking presented as though from god, thus much of its information brings dishonor to god.. yet it contains great beneficial truths behind the symbols it uses.
let us take the only two cases of miracles jesus performed without any request from anybody which would show the very purpose of his ministry:.
1) jesus healed a woman who “was bent over and could not straighten up at all.” (luke 13:11-13).
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. - Ephesians 6:5
Slavery was still ok with god even in the New Testament.
is the average jehovah's witness selfish and self-centred?.
i know, i know...many will object and say "no - preaching is the most selfless thing a jw can do.
it saves others lives...".
Think of it this way... according to Watchtower, Jehovah will make you immortal in a perfect world. All you have to do is be a slave to Watchtower in the here an now. If your child/brother/sister/mum/dad decides to leave or is expelled from the religion then you must shun them or you wont get to be immortal.
If your friend/relative is shunning you, they're essentially saying that they'd happily sacrifice knowing you simply so they can become immortal. Most parents would do anything for their child, JWs on the other hand will give up their own children in order to become immortal. How is this any different from sacrificing your children to a god?
I can remember a handful of genuinely altruistic people in the JW cult when I was in. Hell, one of my favorite people in the cult has been disfellowshipped twice for being too kind to disfellowshipped people. He was genuinely "christlike". He used to still talk to them and run errands for them if they were unable to do something. But 99.999999% have been trained to withhold their kind nature if you were to disagree with Watchtower. They're the exact opposite of the Good Samaritan.
after i awoken from the cult, i went through the normal process of not knowing who i was and what my tastes where.
looking back this was a wonderful time in my life because i experimented and tried different things and now i like or dislike things because i personally like/dislike them - not because i've been told they're good or bad.. black pudding is an example - it's made of blood and is a popular addition here in britain to fried breakfasts.
i tried it for the first time last year and i can confirm that it is indeed revolting.

I also found that my choice of music changed too. For some reason Morrissey and The Smiths got me through the hard times of being shunned and the crap I went through with my family. Morrissey is now one of my all time fave musicians and I cant believe I didn't listen to his music when I was a JW.

Also, Red Hot Chili Peppers and AC/DC.
Did any of you discover that you liked something?
what is the difference (if any) between being guided by holy spirit and being inspired by holy spirit?
is it just semantics?.
Actually, if you think about it, being guided by holy spirit should produce more accurate results.
If i were to visit a museum and was guided around i'd learn a lot more because the guide tells you all about the things you're looking at.
i'd like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our newest jw apologist jtrottigy.
.
he'll likely only be here for a few days like most jw defenders before he runs away when presented with his own doctrine.. so far he's already said some hilarious stuff, like "there's no such thing as nepotism in jehovah's organisation", "confidentiality is paramount to elders" and, my personal favourite "the overlapping generation is so simple to understand".. yh don't think i don't remember you from jwtalk..

one thing i don't miss about being a jobo, is those families that ruled the congregations.. i've seen how the elders protected their own using our old friend, nepotism.. eg.
the son of an elder that stole a car and was prosecuted but 'let off' because it was kept secret and all his relatives were elders in the same congregation.
it certainly went on when i was an elder but i wasn't one of the 'in' crowd.
Elders daughter living with worldly guy but it was spun that they were just roommates. They ended up getting married.
It never ceases to amaze me how many elders daughters have managed to leave the org without being DFd. I know of at least 4 that left and are now living/married to non JWs and they're not being shunned at all.

I know of an elder that had sex with a min servant's fiancee. He was reproved, she was DF'd. Never did understand why... it takes two.
And i only know of this because my ex-father in law is an elder and used to tell us lots of things after a few glasses of vino.
Needless to say, the MS marriage was off.
(For those in Liverpool, the elders initials was G.N).
i was shocked recently to see on social media a couple pictures of jw sisters at a convention working as parking "attendants".
i put that title in quotation marks because they still don't get the official attendant badge like the male parking attendants do, only the reflective vest.
has anybody else heard of this .
Who remembers one of the sisters reading the group study book with a tea towel on her head? I do!
How demeaning.
i just got my first peek at jwtalk via a link posted elsewhere.
i have been hearing about this forum for a while now, but never checked it out.
my question is this: is this site sanctioned by the wbts/gb/fds/yhwh?
It's VERY controlled. Every post you make has to be vetted by a mod before it's posted. AND the mods take the liberty of rewording your posts and even the title.
Very frustrating.
Unless you wish to post your gushing worship of the Governing Body or demonize ex-members the forum is not worth it.
And, no, the Watchtower society would never sanction that site. The people who run it are clearly wannabe elders. They even talk to you like an elder when they PM you. One of them even posted claiming that they disagreed with another poster so asked "can someone adjust my thinking here?..." - literally asking to be told what to think by another JW.
