But once the governing body members pass away what then? Sooner or later the "anointed" will all be dead. The Governing body HAS TO be made up of anointed brothers... or so the current understanding is.

Feeling Sad After Uncovering TTATT
by pale.emperor inmy initial pangs of unease and doubt led me to research some things.
well, a lot of things really.
i've never felt comfortable using the bible to try to calculate dates (1914).

Thanks for all your kind words friends. I feel a little better today. I downloaded and printed the UN letter and im creating a file in work (away from "concerned" members of the org). It's funny, 90% of the evidence is from their own mags, former "spirit guided" members and the bible itself. I dont feel as afraid as before.
If elders come to me im going to refuse a discussion "i dont talk about religion". They cant get me for that (i downloaded and read Shepherd The Flock Of God and know their rules).
I'll keep you all updated.
Thanks again.

I think they genuinely believe they're God appointed. But the flip-flopping, back tracking (new light), and failed "expectations" (predictions) show they aint guided by no holy spirit.
Reading Crisis Of Conscience shows they don't even agree on most things.
The only one even remotely qualified in biblical languages was Fred Franz because he took a 2 year course in Ancient Greek and was self taught Hebrew. Now, i ask you, if you were about to have a life saving operation and the doctor who claimed to be the best told you he had taken a 2 year course in medicine and was self taught in this operation - would you trust him?

I have a suspicion the next "light" the Gov Body receive is that faders are to be shunned also. How they'll work out just how many meetings you've missed before you're considered "mentally diseased" should prove interesting.
Maybe they'll take the number of sons of Jacob, multiply it by your age, (remember the day for a year rule though!), then share that by how many times you underline your WT.
There's so many in my circuit leaving. One girl pulled off a perfect fade - her dad (an elder) ran off with his secretary, got her pregant, fled to America with her and left his wife and kids in the UK. His wife went off the rails and would turn up at witness house parties and would make out with 19yo boys. So this girl had been through an ordeal. Stopped going to the meetings - we all felt sorry for her and left her alone to greive - a few months later she's living with some guy, they're getting married, they have a kid on the way. She's not been DF, still gets invited to witness parties and even turns up at the conventions. Fade score 100 points!

My initial pangs of unease and doubt led me to research some things. Well, a lot of things really. I've never felt comfortable using the bible to try to calculate dates (1914). And im confident that at least 90% of JW's cant explain the 1914 calculation off the top of their head. That worried me. Because Gods word to humans should be easy to understand shouldn't it?
So, i research. I dig. I uncover bits here and there. Not only do i see that the 1914 idea wasn't even Russel's idea, but it originated from someone else, in fact another religion.
Then i uncover the fall of Jerusalem was a different date altogether.
Then i discover a, quite recent, letter from the UN showing the JW's have fellowship. Then they left that fellowship.
Then i notice there wasn't a governing body in Russel/Rutherfords day even though the WT will use the term governing body back then.
So the central beliefs of this religion have come crashing down. How can i still go along with it?
It feels like someone has died. I feel sad. And i cant tell anyone because I'd be kicked out in bad standing. Come to think of it, it's impossible to leave with your reputation in tact. People dont just "stop going", they "become weak and fall away". Or they "leave Jehovah".
So here i am. My wife knows i dont believe it anymore and what do i tell her? If i show her what i've found i'll be an "apostate". We have no outside friends or family. And honestly i dont know whats out there.
Has anyone else felt this low after discovering TTATT?

"It's Like North Korea..." is a phrase i use often to describe this life to outsiders. Think of the situation in North Korea, sound similar? In North Korea:
Your information is controlled. You're told what the facts are and discouraged from looking into them yourself.
Outsiders and defectors are liars.
It's great here, we're all happy.
Our glorious leader is all wise, all knowing.
Dont worry about what to think, we've done that for you.
If you don't agree with 100% of what we tell you we'll come visit you and interrogate you to expose you're true thoughts.
You're either with US or with THE ENEMY
I'm halfway through Crises of Conscience by Ray Franz. If anything it makes me see that the governing body is no more enlightened or knowledgeable than any other bible student.
Maybe we need a new banner on JW.org: "The Truth! (subject to change)"

If they were MY parents and they shunned me I'd GLADLY cut them off. They'd never hear from me again.
If that was my daughter, I'd never shun her. I'd rather die.
According to the bible God gave us free will. Even He doesn't interfere with free will. COMMANDING someone to cut off their family is not scriptural. In violates their free will.

Home bookstudy ended because of 'independent study' groups? Any interesting stories regarding these types of groups?
by Nicodemus Kathoplizo insomeone suggested the other day that the home bookstudy meeting ended because of 'independent study' groups (in ireland) going 'off the reservation' and left the truth (tm).. has anyone heard of this before?.
does anyone have interesting stories of 'independent study' groups resulting in large scale apostasy?.
they did not publish this for no reason:.

Just read the KM link, thanks for posting. This is rather worrying. So if i want to meet up with brother X and go to a certain museum and study the original greek version of the bible and have theological discussion about it.... im not supposed to?
Shouldnt i treasure knowledge?
Proverbs 18:13 When anyone replies to a matter before he hears the facts, It is foolish and humiliating.

A Comment by Lieu Made It Obvious That I Could Not Be A JW in 2016
by TMS inthe following comment by lieu on another topic shows me that i would be totally frustrated, actually exasperated, stifled and depressed in the modern form of jwdom: "therein lies the real problem billy, no one is paying any attention at regular meetings let alone conventions.
it's too boring, intentionally i think.
humans aren't hardwired to sit through hours of lecture with no interactions.

I told my father in law (he's the elder in charge of the school) that i want to come off the ministry school. When he asked why i honestly told him "i enjoyed giving talks. Researching something and then presenting it to the congregation was really interested and enjoyable. Now that's gone how are we to prepare for giving talks before becoming min servants or elders?"
His reply was "hm! It's not all about YOU you know".
I said i wasnt making it about me. Learning to speak publicly was something us witnesses prided ourselves on - different from the "other" religions.
What we have now is just ministry demos.
