They put a non GB speaker up there and said "many of you have served for many years, even giving up the chance of having children... you knew what that meant to serve Jehovah"...

Easier to be a JW now?
by Xanthippe inreading konceptual's account of talking to cart 'witnesses' and it reminded me that when we left in '89 we thought the religion would do one of two things.
get more hardline, consequently lose members and eventually come to an end in some way.
or ease up on the members, fewer rules, less fs time, less meetings, just to keep them in.. all the recent apostate stuff, treatment of dfed kids and the hardline attitude to people who leave or try to fade has confused me, made me think they are harder on the r+f., but i don't think this is true.

Didn't they pretend for a while that the reason for dropping the Book Study Groups was so families could have a Bible Study night instead? Do they even talk about that any more?
I was told at the time (unofficially), that it's because when the great tribulation starts we'll need to rally together as families so family togetherness is Jehovah's new light.
Even at the time i could smell bullshit - and just thought they're copying the Mormon "family togetherness evening" thing, albeit 120 years late.

Cant remember the exact words or which WT mag it came from (i'll look later) but there was definitely an article admonishing us to not try to understand the bible on our own. And that Jesus communicates only via the FDS (the GB). I was always given a hard time for the books in my collection: MANY translations of the bible, the Book Of Mormon, Bagavad Gita, Pali scriptures, Native American mythology, Norse mythology etc etc. I was removed from giving prayers in the hall due to mentioning in conversation with a brother that i can understand how some people many years ago would think of personifying things around them like "trees", "love", "war", "laughter" and giving them a god/goddess etc and isnt it interesting that we use the term "the God of love" for Jehovah?
No mics, prayers, sound desk duty for the Pale.Emperor from then on. I was glad to have a rest in all honesty.

Where do we start? My own mother and fleshly brothers and sisters wont even say hello to me in the street, my wife was persuaded to leave me, raising a 2yo child between two homes - and all because i wanted to leave. Hows THAT for fruit?

When JW broadcasting first came out almost all JW's i knew went out in droves to by a Roku so they could watch it on their TV screens (they could've come to me and got it on Kodi but never mind) - next thing you know someone somewhere in another congregation started selling Roku's to JW's and even asking them why they dont have one and promoting the benefits of JW Broadcasting. (Jesus and the moneychangers springs to mind).
I think it's easier to be JW nowadays in SOME ways but in other ways it isnt. When i was little Gilead and Bethel were advertised as a great thing to reach out for as a young one. Preach in foreign territory, make new friends etc. Now there's no incentive to better oneself as a JW. You cant even enjoy writing/giving a number 4 talk anymore since they done away with them. How are you supposed to prepare for becoming a Min Servant or Elder unless you practice public speaking?
I've been out since June 2016. Even when i was a good JW i openly said that "i dont believe all of it. About 10% i flatly dont believe, 20% im unsure of. And all that time my cognitive dissonance was destroying me. I was miserable, and even having doctrinal arguments in my head LITERALLY like two people talking the subject out. Not healthy. When i left and declared it all bullshit i felt a lot better.

My fave quote has to be from page 232 of the bound volume:
The churches are in rapid decline. Even in the United States, were religion still enjoys perhaps the greatest popularity, nearly three out of four persons polled said that it is losing influence. Why is there this decline in religion?
One of the reasons is that people are disturbed by what is happening in their churches. Yes, millions of persons have been shocked to learn that things they were taught as being vital for salvation are now considered by their church to be wrong. Have you, too, felt discouragement, or even despair, because of what is happening in your church?
A businessman in Medelling, Colombia, expressed the effect the changes have had on many.
"Tell me", he asked "how can I have confidence in anything? How can i believe in the Bible, in God, or have faith? Just ten years ago we Catholics had the absolute truth, we put all our faith in this. now the pope and our priests are telling us this is not the way to believe any more, but we are to believe "new things". How do i know the "new things" will be the truth in five years?
Im printing this off and keeping it for teaching my daughter when she grows up, and of course any JW's that may be unfortunate enough to knock on the Pale.Emperor's door.

Using the term "Watchtower" when talking to a JW
by Sanchy inhas anyone else noticed how alarm bells go off inside a jw mind as soon as they hear someone that "is out" refer to the leaders of this org as "watchtower"?
i've chatted with a few friends now about my doubts and each and every time i've started using phrases such as "watchtower said this" or "watchtower did that", i can almost see their heads about to explode in anger, as if they've just realized they are talking to the lucifer himself.
some have even interrupted and corrected me by reminding me that it's not "watchtower", it's "god's organization".

That's actually a very common mind control/brainwashing trick - you hear something so often you believe it. How could you question it? You've already called it "the truth".

I saw a whole box of WT and Awake bound volumes on eBay. They're in the USA though.
Also, dont you think Awake! is an ironic title for a Jehovah's Witness magazine?
