It seems to be when Rutherford got his greedy hands on it when it became a cult. Russel I can forgive, lots of crack-pot doomsday sects popped up around that time. Rutherford saw potential and turned it into a real cult I think.

The bOrg Cult Tactics
by pale.emperor ini'm wondering if the borg actually studied mind control and coercion tactics deliberately or wether they just evolved over time through trial and error.
from reading steve hassans books, studying hypnosis and methods psychopaths use it all seems very complex.
like it would never occur to me to do a, b and c in the right order at the right time in order to get control of someone or control their lives.. for example, repetition of words (the word "loyalty" was a big one in the last convention), using loaded language, encouraging people not to trust their own thoughts, restricting their information, demonising those who leave etc.

Do you think there's a GB guide list?

Plans for huge Jehovah's HQ take shape
by Formerbrother inhttp://www.chelmsfordweeklynews.co.uk/news/11227290.plans_for_huge_jehovah_s_hq_take_shape/.
its going to be a real beautiful place when its finished.. they are going for quality over quantity.
it used to be accommodation for a few thousand permanent residents, now its looking like less than a thousand permanent with the possibility of a few thousand more in temporary accommodation should the need arise.. some say the plans are going to be like a garden of eden in england :) i mean they had farming in london over the years but this is going to be epic what they are planning for temple farm at chelmsford.. they are planting thousands (literally) of fruit trees, including tropical fruits in huge green houses, huge vines yards and then the same basic farming activities as before.

So it's built on the donations of millions of rank and file witnesses who arnt allowed to enjoy it's facilities and can only see it if they book and tour and get watched at all times?
You can only gain entry to the compound on the invite of one of the Bethelites or if you book a tour, then you will be recorded and given an electronic badge which you have to keep with you at all times. Each badge has a locator on it and everybody will be tracked 100% of the time, if anybody is found without the locator badge there will be an investigation and all activities will be recorded by the hundreds of high end HD cameras everywhere.
North Korea's tourism are doing the exact same thing. http://www.newkoreatours.com/north_korea_travel_rules.html
They (tourists) are under very strict regulations as to what they can and cannot do and this is not negotiable. For example; you are not free to wander around on your own...
In the DPRK you will be under close scrutiny from the guides and security.
Leaving the hotel without the guides or the guides' express permission is not possible.

I dont know where i'd be without this site. Im a regular visitor. No one else would understand what we're going through and we can use JW loaded phrases without having to translate them to layman terms like we have to when speaking to "worldly" people.
I've learned so much and seen so much evidence - which is more than the Watchtower ever did.

Hang on, hang on... so that brother in the convention video who refused to play the Soviet national anthem on his violin COULD have all along? And he went to prison for not doing it?
Unbelievable.

How the org will spin the Midweek meeting about Child Abuse in Australia
by tor1500 inluke 21:11 says:there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences;+ and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs.
but verse 12 says:but before all these things happen, people will lay their hands on you and persecute you,+ handing you over to the synagogues and prisons.
you will be brought before kings and governors for the sake of my name.

I knew there were accusations against witnesses for covering up child abuse but knew nothing about it. Dismissed it all as apostate lies. I remember my father in law coming back from an elders meeting in a bad mood and randomly said to us all "whenever there's an accusation of child abuse it's always the same - we call the police". Of corse now i know that's not true.
Im positive that 99% of rank and file witnesses know absolutely nothing about the child abuse accusations or why those accusations were made. It's sad really. And dangerous. Only last month my ex wife said to me "people need to be disfellowshipped - otherwise we'd be like the Catholic church where they have pedophile priests and just move them on". I calmly tried to tell her that the same thing goes on with the JW's and she kind of gave me a blank stare. Then i felt bad, like i've just ruined her perfect picture of her religion.

Easier to be a JW now?
by Xanthippe inreading konceptual's account of talking to cart 'witnesses' and it reminded me that when we left in '89 we thought the religion would do one of two things.
get more hardline, consequently lose members and eventually come to an end in some way.
or ease up on the members, fewer rules, less fs time, less meetings, just to keep them in.. all the recent apostate stuff, treatment of dfed kids and the hardline attitude to people who leave or try to fade has confused me, made me think they are harder on the r+f., but i don't think this is true.

I remember back in 2005 or 2006 there was a website that you could print out the scriptures for the meetings. They (whoever they are) had a fit and told us not to use it because we needed to look stuff up in the Bible. Do they even still use Bibles or is it all on the tablet now?
I remember that. I also remember when tablets first became widely used there was an announcement that it's ok to use them but not on the platform. That law has gone too. One elder in my old congregation was even giving those in the pioneer school printouts of all the scriptures and references from JW books to save them time.

They're very nice brothers. Whenever they have get-togethers or BBQs etc everyone turns up.
However, no ones ever seen their bedrooms. In fact, im not even sure if there's two bedrooms.
One works with my brother in law and before i was DF he told me that this brother confided in him that he's sat on more than a few JC's in his time. Which is surprising because he's a "squeeky clean" by the book, straight out of a Watchtower article brother. Very polite and friendly.
There are 10's if not hundreds of thousands of closeted gays in JW-land. It's one of WT's best-kept secrets.
I remember a visiting speaker we had a few years ago. He could only have been about 21yo and min servant but he was assigned to give a talk in our hall. He turned up with his mum and dad. He was, by far, the most camp and effeminate man i've ever seen in JW land. Fake tan, eyebrows plucked to perfection. After the meeting i spoke to him and he gave me a limp handshake. :-D I have no idea what his talk was about, i was distracted by his performance.

In my old congregation there are two brothers (non related) who are in the early 30s. They've never dated girls. They're "best friends". They go on holidays together, they live together, they sit together in the hall, they sit together in the assemblies. One went to live in Spain for a while and returned after a few weeks because they missed each other.
There are at least 3 very attractive and sought-after sisters that are head over heels besotted with one of them. Despite their obvious flirtations and fawning he's never persued any of them. When kind old biddies in the hall tell them they're such lovely boys and "why haven't you been snapped up yet?" they reply that they're too busy for stuff like that or they're not interested in dating.
What does that sound like to you? - in the words of Seinfeld "not that there's anything wrong with that" -
BUT if their living arrangements are what i suspect they are surely the holy spirit was on a day off the day they were both appointed as min servants?
