What does it take to qualify for cart/trolley work?
by Londo111 inif memory serves me, when it was first introduced elders had to fill out a form to grade a jw, and only those who made the grade could do the carts.. i didn’t realize until sir82 said something on another discussion that the process had changed.. what is the process nowadays?

Considering the fact that my mum has been doing cart witnessing since the start, it obviously takes very little bible knowledge and very little brain power. My mum couldnt explain the bible concepts but she can quote watchtower articals like you've never seen. The ideal drone for a cart.
Plus, she likes Starbucks.

Cart Witnesses Today - I am not impressed
by pale.emperor injust approached a cart then with two jw girls holding out mags.
they continued chatting to each other about car insurance when i took the watchtower from one of their hands.. ok, so it looks like i'll have to get the ball rolling.
i asked if they were jehovahs witness.

I was one of those witnesses that HAD to know it all inside out. I studied like a fiend for pleasure even in my school years. I was by no means the golden boy of the KH, i just found the theology and bible history fascinating. 1914 always presented a problem to me though. Even when i believed it i strongly believed that we shouldn't be trying to work out dates from the bible. But if asked by someone (which almost never happened) i was able to explain it, but i knew how ridiculous it sounded as i was saying it.
So it's frustrating to me now that im out that the next generation of JWs have absolutely no clue of the deeper things the bible talks of, the deeper things of the torah, the gammatria, the greek words etc. I feel like an old timer looking at the youth of today in despair and im only 32!

Modern day J.W.'s are unable to defend what they believe - so they don't even try now. Sad.
Seriously?!! This is a wake up call. Hopefully it'll mean less people joining up and more people leaving over the next few decades.
It's like Diet Jehovah's Witness. Same bullshit, half the thinking involved.

Whenever i speak to cart witnesses (which is not very often, only when they look lonely and bored), my approach is the same. I make out i sorta-kinda know what witnesses believe due to a guy in work who used to be one who left.
My fave topics include:
How would we recognize the truth?
Could a person be JW Christian by using just the bible and not studying magazines?
Could God use other people to transmit his will, like an average JW or even non JWs?

Just approached a cart then with two JW girls holding out mags. They continued chatting to each other about car insurance when I took the Watchtower from one of their hands.
Ok, so it looks like I'll have to get the ball rolling. I asked if they were Jehovahs Witness. They said yes and carried on talking to each other.
I asked them what the books were about. They said "it's a book that explains the bible so you can understand it". Then just stood there facing the street holding their mags.
Am I right in understanding that you have to be an exemplary JW to have the privilege of doing cart witnessing? If this is the best their congregation has (Broad Green, Liverpool I later discovered as I said my goodbyes) then the standard really is slipping.
Why, it's almost as if they didn't want to do the ministry and it was a compulsion. No sense of urgency in preaching the "good news of gods kingdom at all". In my day I loved to get into a bible discussion.

The point at which you think this may not be the truth
by LevelThePlayingField ini remember one of the nights that i found out the truth wasn't the truth, that is after finding out about the united nations, i remember riding my bicycle from like 1am till 5am in the city night.
it was rather chilly, maybe about 55-60 degrees and i was playing pink floyd's dark side of the moon album in my earbuds.
just riding and riding, not really tiring because of the thought that 7 men in brooklyn had duped me, duped me for like 20 plus years.

For years i always said "if this isn't the truth, it's the closest thing to it" or "if the JWs are wrong, Christianity is wrong. There is no other Christian religion" oh how misguided i was then!
For me it was when my then-wife was in a mental hospital for manic OCD, self harming and attempted suicides (yes, plural). And i was looking after my daughter one on one. I was going through a lot already with work, taking time off, hospital visits etc and the elders still expected me to make every meeting, every ministry and answer up and study. Yet i had no friends in the KH and it was like a big popularity contest to fit in. I remember thinking how nice it would be to, just once, have a lie in. Have a day where i didn't have to work or do something JW related like ministry or the KH. I wasn't happy in the religion and knew many people who were never JW or exJW who were a lot happier.
So i started questioning what a follower on Jesus is. Going only by the bible. As far as i could see it had nothing to do with meeting attendance and everything to do with me and my conduct and beliefs. So i made a real effort to expose myself to all sides of the arguments. So-called "apostate" sites, Mormonism, Born Agains, Christadelphians, Catholic, Church Of England, Lutheran, Seven Day Adventist, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoist... i studied them all.
Started reading Crisis Of Conscience, got a third of the way in one day i took my little girl to the park and it just hit me. This isnt the truth. It never was.
The rest you can read on my very first post. Never looked back and im immeasurably happier.

This weekend thousands of people are gathering at the Scheels Arena in celebration of their faith.
Jehovah's Witnesses from around the world are assembling for the "Don't Give Up" convention.
The morning starts with a music presentation and then continues on through the day with prayer, song, and speeches.
The theme centers around supporting each other and including everyone in the good will.
Everyone is invited and all questions regarding Jehovah's Witnesses are welcome.
Really? All questions are welcome? So we can ask how the GB receive new light without being inspired? We can ask about the Royal Commission? We can ask what the WT said about 1975?
"And when you're here it's like an extended family that you're with, and so there are friends that you can just talk to anybody and get to know them really quickly. So we really enjoy that, and we get to see diversity and everything is so nice." says Brian and Michelle Staneart.
Unless of course you used to be a Jehovah's Witness, in which case you'll be promptly ignored. They should put that in the news report. Diversity? Do we see LGBT witnesses open and free to be who they are? Do we see women giving talks on the platform?
I've been to 30 conventions in my lifetime. Not once did i ever find that "you can just talk to anybody and get to know them really quickly."
The convention continues through Sunday night.
There's no charge but a freewill donation is being accepted.
Ka-ching! Wonder what the "deficit" will be this year.

It's tacky and it's shameless advertising by some JW entrepreneur who thinks putting these homophobic kids on a cheap polyester skirt is gonna make Jehovah happy. I wonder if Watchtower will threaten legal action like they did with AvoidJW.org? Nah probably not.
Check out ebay, all sorts of JW.org idols and trinkets for even the most zealous JW to display at the convention: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=JW.ORG&_sacat=0
On a side note, i really dislike that every JW, child or adult, goes on about Caleb & Sophia as if they're really cool and funny and just "fantastic". When if you compare it to mainstream animation it's average production at best and the message just plain propaganda aimed at children.
