Since starting this poll i realized something, i said NO because my family are adults. I dont class my infant neices and nephew as shunning me because they dont know any better.
If my children were shunning me and then stopped i'd accept them back.

witnessing would cease, would it flow on to attendance numbers at meetings and then total decimation of the church..
Ministry would all be cease to exist. Only the elders and their families would turn up. It's one of their ways of making sure people actually do go out.
if the end is oh-so-very-near why the exhortation rammed home during the convention to "don't give up.
if humankind is poised right on the knife edge of the end, the sense of urgency in the organization would be breathtakingly palpable.
urgency?
Remember the conventions where you'd MAYBE get a new publication and everyone would be over the moon about it? I remember when When Someone You Love Dies was released and everyone thought it was just the best thing a grieving householder would love to get their hands on.
Then it was a new publication every convention.
Then a new publication every day of the convention. Where it stopped being so wonderful and you'd start thinking "oh man, i've gotta carry ANOTHER load of books back to my hotel?". Eventually you'd just send someone from your family to get 7 of them in one go for the whole family. My mum would get some for her non JW family member who more than likely just threw them in the trash.
Now? Downloads.
just approached a cart then with two jw girls holding out mags.
they continued chatting to each other about car insurance when i took the watchtower from one of their hands.. ok, so it looks like i'll have to get the ball rolling.
i asked if they were jehovahs witness.
Can someone confirm if they have been given a directive to NOT engage in debates? Because they all seem to be avoiding conversation and directing us to their webshite. This is a complete 180 turn on what we were all directed to do when we were in.
Hell, i remember when the internet was to be avoided. My parents only got the internet in 2005 and even then they asked an elder if it was ok first.
hey everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.
i'm currently in a jehovah's witnesses household, which is very deep into the "truth".
i woke up a few months ago, and i haven't told my parents yet.
My advice is take advantage of the fact that your family hold THE BIBLE in high regard. Id say "I read Galatians 1:8 and want to use only the bible to direct my life. Paul didn't teach many of the things Watchtower teaches."

Not for me. Even if my family stopped shunning me, they've made it very clear "im choosing to stay loyal to Jehovah". So any so-called love they have for me isn't even real love. They're not worthy of my time. And anyway, it was always me looking after them. I got nothing in return off them.
If they're so convinced from "scripture" that shunning is what Paul was referring to in 1 Corinthians then any "new light" shouldn't matter to them. They claim they got it from scripture, not men.
As chook says "fuck 'em".
will they draw a new name out of a hat or do a kiss test i don't know..
I think they'll only pick the most hardcore member with cult leader potential.
Like this asshole: Jose Cintone Jr

when i first became a witness, i always found the teaching about jesus being the arch angel michael hard to swallow.
i did however believe that jesus pre existed as a master worker alongside god (the first of his creation).. but now everything is brought into question having watched anthony buzzard explain why jesus could not have pre existed as it is impossible to pre exist yourself.
also the fact that it all sounds contradictory to suggest, he was already alive millions of years before he was transferred to mary's womb to be born as a human - the son of man?.
I dont believe the bible - BUT treating it as a work of fiction as i would The Lord Of The Rings or something like that... he definitely IS NOT the Archangel Michael. Anthony Buzzard is very good at proving that. I find the Jesus being God idea to be contradictory. For every "proof" a trinitarian gives me i can give another proof showing that he cant be. I think the original teaching was that he wasn't god, but as the Jesus cult grew people started making bigger claims as they got carried away. Next thing you know people think he actually was god.
As for his per-existance... i'd say no. If i were reading the story for the first time without any preconceived ideas i think it's clear that he was a man who became divine. And that the example is that we all can be divine too if we copy him.
we all know the rate of suicide is high among jw's.
my question is this- was there some subliminal messages that encourage this.
i was a born in and my entire life i would have these thoughts that could come out of nowhere,"kill yourself.
There was a lovely lady in my last congregation that suffered from depression. She was about 25 years older than me. She always put a smiley face on and was really quiet and unassuming. Because she wasn't in any of the social cliques she was left on her own all the time. I always made a big effort with her, talking to her and remembering our conversations so i could refer to things she'd said previously to show i was listening.
It was so sad to see nobody bothering with her, even though they knew she was suffering. I wonder how she is now that im DFd and no one else ever bothered. I do think if she stopped going and made real friends in the real world she'd feel at least a little better.
