Guilt is a powerful motivator, and it's used by cults excessively to make you do what the cult wants you to do. It's important to do what YOU feel is right otherwise you'll feel the other emotions that the cult uses excessively... unworthy, anger, controlled.

Am I selfish?
by Jules Saturn intonight i had an argument with both my parents.
my parents are aware of my feelings towards the organization, and it saddens them because i am their first born son.
they had high expectations of me, my father dreamt of him and i serving together as elders.

Im surprised people have voted Stephen Lett. He's a bumbling old fool but i think he genuinely believes the stuff he's saying. I thought it'd be a Tony Tightpants washout.
The rest are narcissists.

The old "Book Study Group"
by The Fall Guy inin the june 2004 kingdom ministry, the self-appointed "faithful slave" published this spiritual exhortation as a q&a item - "the congregation book study—why we need it.
three years later, in 2007 - in the august kingdom ministry - the same "slave" issued this reminder - "how the congregation book study arrangement helps us.
but surprise, surprise - within a few short months the "slave" decided that jehovah had had a change of heart, and now decided that the book study in homes - with all of its alleged benefits - was superfluous: .

I remember my bookshelf being THE topic of conversation everytime an elder visited my home. My theology collection is vast. I had bibles in many translations and they didnt like it.

UN Association
by Jules Saturn inso this happened awhile back ago, i was talking to this bethelite that i respect, i consider him to be very sincere.
this was during the time i had discovered the un association the society had as an ngo.
i already knew the answer, but to see his response, i asked him "was the society ever part of the united nations?

I'm sure the vast majority dont know about it. I certainly didn't when i was in. I get the following response whenever i bring this up:
1. If I'm not holding a copy of the UN letter - they deny it and say it'll be an apostate lie and "i cant believe you were taken in by it"
2. If i am holding it - they deny it and say it's an apostate lie and "i cant believe you were taken in by it"
3. If i show them the letter and Watchtowers reply about it only being so they could access the library they say "they're imperfect men, they make mistakes, doesn't that show you how humble they are?"

Jehovah's people are not happy people
by Phoebe ini finally stopped attending the meetings about 4 months go.
i won't be going back - ever.. but i've decided the best reply to the watchtower is to be happy and i do try to be happy every day even thought i wasted my entire life on this religion.
i cherish every day, practice mindfulness and do my best to be content with the life i have.. it is only now that i see that most jws i know are deeply unhappy people.

This is why i have a real joy to be in the real world. My new friends and people i meet always tell me that im so upbeat and sociable. When i tell them why they're amazed. It's like im trying to catch up with what i missed growing up in "the truth". Little things people take for granted are still wonderful to me. Sleeping in on Saturday/Sunday is still something i look forward to.

They lied about methuselah tree at convention
by hoser inthere was a part about pine trees in california mountains at regional convention.
the brother/organization lied about how old they are.
he said oldest tree is 4200 years old when it is actually 5000 years old.

I could never understand how the dinosaurs supposedly died out during the flood of Noah, when there was never any evidence of human/ape bones alongside the dinosaur ones. You'd think a giant lizard alive only 4000 years ago would be relatively easy to find and they'd be popping up everywhere.

The Life Of Brian
by pale.emperor inone film i was absolutely not allowed to watch as a jw.. i think this scene is a perfect example of religion, how they may start off with good intentions and how they spawn into something horrible:.

A WTF Moment While In the WTS
by Searching inhas anyone else had a moment, while still within the organization (and before learning ttatt) that caused them to stop and go, "this is kind of messed up.".
for instance, back i believe in the early 2000's, i was attending a dc with my family.
it was announced at the beginning of the convention that there was going to be a special announcement at the end, so for everyone to please try to remain until the very end of the meeting.

I think this scene sums Watchtower up perfectly.

by Normalfulla inhumor plays a big part in a lot of humanity and we all like a good laugh but as far as i'm aware god's supposed word has no actual humor ,of course apart from being a joke itself ,why wasn't there a passage or something like "jesus farted and giggles broke out among them " or something, is anyone aware of any notations of humor ?

"In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth". Genesis 1:1. What a side splitter!
