Do you think suggestibility (for hypnosis) correlates with credulity?
Or with the willingness to accept authority?
That's an interesting thought. It will certainly help. There's a sliding scale of suggestibility, there's a test i could do if i were there with you to tell you how suggestible you'd be. But all in all, everyone can be hypnotized. It's just a case of using the right approach. But even then, while under hypnosis you cant force someone to accept a suggestion they'd find abhorrent.

Derren Brown is awesome. I've seen 3 of his shows live and met him in his dressing room through mutual friends. He hypnotizes my daughter every time but even tho I would love him to do it to me it never works. Any idea why?
I use self hypnosis successfully many times tho.
Could be a number of reasons. Paul McKenna told a story how he never managed to hypnotist his mum. Because his mum knew him a Paul McKenna, my son, the one who collects star wars figures and scraped his knee when he was 12 on his new bike. She doesn't see him as "the hypnotist". But another hypnotist would be able to.
In your case, there are different inductions, some work better on certain people but they'd all work. Dont know how much time he spent with you so i cant say. One big thing is the suggestibility test that goes on before they call people up. The ones who are more suggestible get called.
i regular pioneered for 2 years and never have actually converted anyone through the door to door work, in fact, i only knew a few individuals that joined this way.
most were born-in or at least had some type of family influence.
i had several bible studies but they all got cold feet when things got serious and potential baptism was discussed.
My record:
Years baptized: 12 (i was born in though)
Average hours a month door knocking: 4 (yeah i hated it)
Estimated number of doors i must have knocked on: 10,000
Number of return visits: 0
Number of interested ones attending the KH because of my visit: 0
Number converted: 0
Massive waste of time. And that's coming from a ministry-lazy JW.

I would love to know more. But in your opinion, and from any experiences you've heard about, how useful would it be:
a) curing addictions
b) curing, or improving, auto-immune diseases.
Addictions, yes definitely. One of the people i was having lunch with quit smoking because he was given the suggestion that cigarettes taste like dog s**t and the smell of cigarette smoke smells like vomit.
Auto-immune diseases, im not sure. But it wouldn't surprise me. One thing we did learn is that the body responds to stress in some strange ways like skin breakouts, blood pressure and other illnesses. And stress isnt even a physical thing, it's in your head. So if one can deal more effectively with stress they'd be better off.
It's odd the doctors mum left after two years over blood - presumably she knew WTs position when she got baptised. Did she just do more research into the issue, or did he not say?
I didn't press further, maybe someone in the family needed one and she left then. I can understand that. But he, being a Dr, was quite exasperated at the very idea of refusing a proven medical treatment in favor of an ancient book.

Ok i read the first book.... pale, im hooked! Its fascinating!! I just need to work up the nerve to try it
You should. Very first person i tried it on after reading that book it didnt work, BUT after going to the course in London i know WHY... i hadnt done the pre-talk first, nor got the person to close their eyes.

Interesting PE interested to know what's the story with Derrin Brown is he legit?
Programs like that It seem so staged to me and so it's hard to take the subject seriously. But, I know there is more to it than just entertainment, for instance, don't we all go into a mild trance like state just watching TV?
Derren Brown is legit, but remember when the cameras roll you haven't seen the pre-talk before hand (telling someone what hypnosis is and what it isn't etc). Because if i just walk up to a random stranger in the street and do an induction, unless they've been hypnotized by someone before, they wont know how to go into a trance state. Some people go under then come out after like 2 seconds because they wern't aware it's ok to stay in that state (which is why we use deepeners to keep them there).
There's one Derren uses sometimes where he just puts his hand over someones eyes and says "sleep" and they do. I actually done that one on Saturday. It relies on focusing their attention on something (like a handshake or something) and then the surprise of your hand over their eyes confuses them for a split second and it's in that second you need to give the command because in the confusion the subconscious is looking for the conscious mind to tell it "what should i do?!!" and you saying sleep beats it to it.

elder and his wife build a flash house.. they go on the stage at an assembly and give an experiences of how they sold the flash house to simplify their life so they can go pioneering.. the real story.. elder and wife can't afford the flash house and have to sell it he never goes pioneering she does until they are declared bankrupt.. why were they bankrupt?.
the money leaft over from the flash house they invested in a yet to be build apartment and the developer goes bankrupt takeing their money.. just one of many.. karter..

The story on the platform:
A dear old elder from my congregation was being interviewed. His wife had left him. When asked why he said "she used to be a JW but lost her faith. She told me i'd have to choose between her and Jehovah." "what did you do brother?" asks the interviewer. He replies "well im still here" (round of applause). Then he relates the story of how his daughter tragically died after leaving the witnesses. But he hopes in the resurrection. (Round of applause).
The REAL story (which all of our congregation knew):
He's been beating his wife and daughter up for years. His wife would come to the meetings with black eyes and the occasional arm in a sling. His daughter was an alcoholic by the age of 15 due to him knocking her about. My dad saw him punch his wife in the stomach in the 2nd school and reported him to the elders. He denied it and nothing happened. My dad was a marked man after that. His daughter leaves home (and the witnesses) first chance she gets at 18. She rebuilds her life and marries my uncle (also an exJW). One day his daughter takes a shower in his house and is electrocuted and dies. It turns out this elder had fitted the shower himself and the wiring was shoddy. He covered up the evidence before the police inquiry started and some poor electrician who had fitted his previous shower got investigated.
This was the last straw for his wife and she finally leaves him and at first lives in a rescue center for battered wives. I have no idea where she is now but he told the BOE that she's mentally ill and makes things up. They believed him!
