I think it is partly to try to set themselves off as being different than people who are non witnesses. Any little thing they can use to say "hey we are different than every other religion".

Why Jehovah witnesses don't say, "Bless you" ?
by Issa inbless you, that was a big sneeze you let out sister.. sister- ah, what does "bless you" mean?.
oh, it's pagan.
because people bless the soul of the person so they don't escape from their physical bodies.. sister- right, it is difficult to change the little things, but we can please jehovah by staying away from those things.. .... this is a scenario that happened when i accidentally (naturally) said "bless you" to the jw sister.

Why is there such a 'high turnover' within the Jehovahs Witnesses?
by UnshackleTheChains ini happened to come across a time article in 2008. it was basically talking about the high turnover in american faiths.
it mentioned the jdubs and highlighted the following point.. an even more extreme example of what might be called "masked churn" is the relatively tiny jehovah's witnesses, with a turnover rate of about two-thirds.
that means that two-thirds of the people who told pew they were raised jehovah's witnesses no longer are — yet the group attracts roughly the same number of converts.

I would say 80% of the born ins who i was friends with growing up are no longer witnesses. Rarely was someone converted. The few that i know of are no longer witnesses now. I seen first hand as many others have also, that the love bombing attracts a lot of people. Once they are baptized and the love bombing stops....they are gone. A lot of the converts also seem to have mental disabilities, are very poor, or have few friends and Jw's prey on these people.
I've seen others leave because no one invites them anywhere or to do anything. They'll associate at the hall with them, but thats about it. If you aren't part of the clique, then it sucks for them. Its a sad religion, and not one to go to if you want true friends.

This week's "Give Us Your Money" meeting item.
by freddo inif you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?
just the video or some commentary too?.
i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

posted this comment in another thread but this is what my wife got out of the meeting.
My wife went to the meeting Tuesday night and said the whole local needs was on donating. They accept cash, check, credit, debit, wills, inheritance, land, stocks etc. If its worth something, they want it. You can set up recurring donations if you don't want the hassle to remember to donate. The video showed kids dropping in their money and they even gave a tutorial on how to use the website to donate. And to top it all off the WT has a hotline you can call if you have any questions on how to donate!!
Last time i checked the WT doesn't have a hotline to call about questions regarding the society or to answer bible questions.
Also the comment was made the more you give the more you receive. Always using twisted scriptures to support their money grabbing.

Explanation please on the change of the term "worldly"
by careful ini've picked up from several replies to posts here that the org has stopped using the term "worldly" as it applies to people.
this must have happened after i left.
would someone be so kind as to explain the "rationale" behind this shift?

Yep they still use the term around here too. I refuse to use it because it is a derogatory label. And as far as i'm concerned, every witness i've ever met has a "worldy job, car, house, takes worldly vacations, buys worldly clothes, supports worldly businesses, etc. So unless they want to stop doing those things, they are as worldly as anyone.

Signing Away Your Hard Earned Cash
by Disassociated Lady 2 inreading the meeting workbook study for this week to see what my family will be reading at their meeting, once again they are asking for members for generous gifts not only from money they earn but also part of any investments they may have and making future arrangements for them to inherit after death through their wills.
take a look at the lower part of the page on this link, its awful!

Pretty bold to beg for money like this. "stress that regularity in contributing is important" -

Was there really a specific request for money in this week's meeting?
by stuckinarut2 ini have seen a few comments about this week's meeting.. was there actually a part that specified an actual per-publisher amount that should be donated regularly?.
can this be confirmed please?.
i truly cant believe just how brazen the society seems to be getting - and how desperate they are!.
-
dbq407
And WT knows that all the elders have to do is introduce a resolution to the cong. to send a specified amount and they will get it. Then the local k.h. can be short on funds that month because of it.

Went to an RV one morning and as i was standing there, the peoples dog is running around like crazy because it is so excited and as it jumps on the porch it hurt its leg and started yelping in pain really loud. The lady opens the door and screams at me "you kicked my dog!", then the husband is running down the stairs of the second story with a closed fist and i am thinking "oh shit i'm gonna get knocked out right on the front porch." He comes running to the door but held back from knocking me out. Then proceeded to follow us to the car saying he is calling the cops. Never went back to that one.
