I can't believe they are using a demonized/worldly website to sell such spiritual artifacts. Selling these precious items on the same site that Mrs. Tony tightpants can buy a dildo!!

by neat blue dog inthe last post about the violin for sale got me to looking at their ebay account which says it's based in wallkill.
they've got over 200 items for sale, most obsolete electronics that are grossly overpriced.

What was your trigger to waking up ?
by CovertsadJW ingood afternoon , .
i wanted to ask everyone here , what was your trigger to waking up ?
i have been waking up for a long time , but in looking back it’s hard for me to look at one event and say “ ah ha “ , i think mine is like a slow leak - like a crack in a damn - and then hold on , because after that it’s just a flood of information.

Not one thing here either, but getting df'd really did open my eyes. I wish every JW could have that privilege. To see how shallow friendships really are and the lack of love is really sad. One day you can talk to me, then next day nothing. And all because a couple of control freak elders say so.
Also the hypocrisy. The same friends who would no longer talk to me, were also doing things before i was df'd that would have gotten them in trouble, but being in a close knit group of friends, their secrets were always safe with me and the others.
And the way they talk down so badly about non witnesses and other religions really is disgusting and arrogant. Not sure how anyone thinks that is ok. Research also helped to seal the deal that they are not the true religion and all they use is fear and guilt to control the flock. They say they are the happiest people on earth? Ha! no one was ever really happy at meetings or service. They were happiest when meeting was over and after putting in their obligatory saturday morning service hours.

JWs and medical marijuana
by dogon inwhere do jws stand on the new medical marijuana?
i know they would df for use of it for recreation but if a dr in california gave it as a perscript, and it was legal to buy and use for medical use, has anyone ran into this yet?.

About 8 years ago I asked a c.o. about marijuana being used if it was medically prescribed. He said then that there wasn't any direction from the society on it, but that if it did come down to it, that it'd probably be ok, but just couldn't be smoked.

Did Being a JW Make You a Better Person?
by Boredposter ini heard many times when i was a witness how much "learning the truth" helped people.
many have been said to have become much better people.
addictions were given up.

In my own mind i suppose i thought i was a better person. But to everyone outside the religion i don't think they thought so. Family thinks you are rude for not attending functions normal people go to, or talking down about other religions. After being out, i can see that most Jw's are hypocrites but try to say they are not. It made me judgemental of others who weren't jw's and even some who were jw's that weren't doing as much as i thought they should. But that is how the religion works and what they teach at meetings.

Could You See A Kingdom Hall Getting Shot Up?
by minimus ini would never want to see that happen but i’m surprised it has not occurred at this point.
there are many disgruntled people who have had bad experiences with the witnesses..

I know in our area they lock the doors as meeting begins. No doubt some are worried that this could happen at the KH.

Why Jehovah witnesses don't say, "Bless you" ?
by Issa inbless you, that was a big sneeze you let out sister.. sister- ah, what does "bless you" mean?.
oh, it's pagan.
because people bless the soul of the person so they don't escape from their physical bodies.. sister- right, it is difficult to change the little things, but we can please jehovah by staying away from those things.. .... this is a scenario that happened when i accidentally (naturally) said "bless you" to the jw sister.

I think it is partly to try to set themselves off as being different than people who are non witnesses. Any little thing they can use to say "hey we are different than every other religion".

Why is there such a 'high turnover' within the Jehovahs Witnesses?
by UnshackleTheChains ini happened to come across a time article in 2008. it was basically talking about the high turnover in american faiths.
it mentioned the jdubs and highlighted the following point.. an even more extreme example of what might be called "masked churn" is the relatively tiny jehovah's witnesses, with a turnover rate of about two-thirds.
that means that two-thirds of the people who told pew they were raised jehovah's witnesses no longer are — yet the group attracts roughly the same number of converts.

I would say 80% of the born ins who i was friends with growing up are no longer witnesses. Rarely was someone converted. The few that i know of are no longer witnesses now. I seen first hand as many others have also, that the love bombing attracts a lot of people. Once they are baptized and the love bombing stops....they are gone. A lot of the converts also seem to have mental disabilities, are very poor, or have few friends and Jw's prey on these people.
I've seen others leave because no one invites them anywhere or to do anything. They'll associate at the hall with them, but thats about it. If you aren't part of the clique, then it sucks for them. Its a sad religion, and not one to go to if you want true friends.
