100-million man hours
by Coded Logic inthe james webb telescope is set to launch in october of 2018 and will allow us to study the formation of first generation stars, the molecular clouds that became the first galaxies, and directly image exoplanets.
roughly one hundred times more powerful than the hubble space telescope the jwst is going to push back the current boundaries of science.. this is what 100-million man hours can accomplish.. .

List of "pagan" things JW's allow
by problemaddict 2 inwhat i'm looking for specifically is things that are "pagan" in the sense they predate christianity (or i guess judiasm to cover the ole mosaic code), that jw's allow or do.
the ones that come to mind are below.. rings - rings seem to originate in egypt.
for wedding ceremonies it became a symbol of "ownership" in rome.. pinatas - looks like possibly it originated in china as a part of the new year and a request for luck, and catholics later turned it into a beating of temptation type thing.. anything else?.

Wind chimes, rock crystals, makeup, and dancing, the days of the week, the Roman calander. Pretty much anything can be linked to paganism.

Cult memories extinguish good memories
by rebel8 ini have this thing.
i don't know why it is or how to stop it.
every time i happen to daydream about something positive from my childhood, some related cult aspect comes to mind and extinguishes it like a candle is being blown out.. for a while, i thought this was anger and resentment causing me to want to find an excuse to be angry (not that i need one).

You're not alone in this, rebel8. Happens to me all the time. A lot of my negative memories surface particularly when I'm hormonal or taking certain antibiotics. To the memories that end with me cringing, I like to imagine something really wonderful happening instead, or a bad person doing something I really like.
It's fun to imagine an alternate ending and can help you not dwell on how bad you felt. For example, I might remember my heinous uncle publicly chastisng me at me at a meeting for being late (actual memory) when suddenly he is struck with a horrible bowel problem and diarrhea explodes from his backside, blowing through the fabric of his suit pants and soaking the CO's wife who happens to be standing, horrified, next to him (my alternate ending to the memory).
I believe it is Steve Hassan who uses this method to help people deal with bad cult memories, but I could be wrong about that.

G Losch Talk - Do Not Hold a Grudge
by Listener ina new video on jw org tv titled do not hold a grudge is presented by gb's oldest member gerrit losch.this is just another representation of the standard of talks prepared and given by the highest level of authority and position within the jw organization.

- what can lead to a grudge?

Ugh to this talk. It is so silly. Of course they have to make up rhymes to woo the audience. We're talking about people who watch jdubya.borg for entertainment and follow the lead of cartoons in their worship *ahem* Caleb and Sophia.

My wife blew my mind, Seth Andrews, and more....
by pronomono inso i recently had the opportunity to hear seth andrews speak in person at a local unitarian universalist church.
for those of you who know my past, i've had a bit of a difficult time dealing with the emotional aspects of a fade with a wife that says she believes but doesn't put forth the works that demonstrate that faith.
we've kind of been in a rocky point in our relationship because we've both been afraid to test the waters on where each of us stand.

Wow! You are one lucky guy. I constantly live in fear of my hubs turning me in. Give her a big hug and kiss and you might need to go buy a lottery ticket.

by pale.emperor inwell, thats it folks.. my identity on here has been rumbled and reported to the elders.
someone, somehow, has figured out that im a member of this site and - rather than speak to me - has promptly reported me to the elders.
i just feel sad for my daughter.

What a nightmare.Your SIL...what a horrible, horrible person. She took pictures!? What business does she have snooping around? Moving on, I totally understand you admitting your activity to the gestapo eldubs. But don't offer up anything that they can't tie you to. No one knows if you were going to actually leave the religion or spread dissent within the ranks. At least, no one can prove it.

slimboyfat joins the Mormons!
by slimboyfat ini know that some people on the board have experience of being mormons, so i would be interested in your feedback.
at church this afternoon it was an uncanny experience.
in the past i've read a lot about mormons, so i thought i was prepared in general for what it would be like.

Wow! Interesting observations SBF. It dawned on me that I've considered entering a Mormon temple about as much I have considered a walk on Mars. I've known a lot of Mormons, had them as neighbors, teachers, co-workers and friends. The whole no caffeine or alcohol is a little too stringent for me, but to each their own.
