in behalf of the horrific events of saturday night, i just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that islam is a religion of peace.
it doesn’t matter that the quran explicitly says that homosexuals should be stoned to death (7:84) - it’s still a religion of peace.
and it doesn’t matter that the scriptures say that all gay men should be killed (sunan 1:152) - islam doesn’t in anyway condone violence.. it doesn’t matter that every mainstream imam calls homosexuality a sin "worse the adultery" - it’s not a religion of bigotry.. it doesn’t matter that 61% of muslims in the uk think gay acts should be made illegal - islam has nothing against the gay community.. it doesn’t matter that countries with sharia law actively persecute the lgbt community - islam is all about peace and love.
When crimes, such as honour killings, go unreported to the secular authorities it is fairly obvious that official figures will not give an accurate representation of reality.
(cnsnews.com) -- dr. michio kaku [1], a theoretical physicist [2] at the city college of new york (cuny) and co-founder of string field theory [3], says theoretical particles known as “primitive semi-radius tachyons” are physical evidence that the universe was created by a higher intelligence.. after analyzing the behavior of these sub-atomic particles - which can move faster than the speed of light and have the ability to “unstick” space and matter – using technology created in 2005, kaku concluded [4] that the universe is a “matrix” governed by laws and principles that could only have been designed by an intelligent being.. “i have concluded that we are in a world made by rules created by an intelligence.
believe me, everything that we call chance today won’t make sense anymore,” kaku said, according [5] to an article published in the geophilosophical association of anthropological and cultural studies.. “to me it is clear that we exist in a plan which is governed by rules that were created, shaped by a universal intelligence and not by chance.”.
“the final solution resolution could be that god is a mathematician,” kaku, author of the future of the mind: the scientific quest to understand, enhance, and empower the mind [6], said in a 2013 big think video [7]posted on youtube.. “the mind of god, we believe, is cosmic music, the music of strings resonating through 11-dimensional hyperspace.”.
"the existence of a grandly designed cosmos. a universe, life functioning as if on autopilot." - prologos
Have you spoken to this designer? Of course you haven't. Therefore you have no basis to conclude this cosmos is designed. As others have often pointed out, not knowing something is not evidence of anything; other than not knowing something of course...

"yeah, one does not understand now, but most likely someone did before, not only understood, but arranged it to be so.; even if that arrangement would be a random process governed by the laws on hand." - prologos
The complete quote of Finkelstein, immediately following what you quoted, which reads:
"...does not make for an intellectually honest or viable argument for a supernatural being as a grand overall creator of the universe"
Although perhaps you have some evidence to support the notion of a grand designer?
this week my son expressed he is agnostic as he is not sure what to believe about evolution and the common ancestor.. i thought any jw hang ups were gone.
i told him that what they teach in school is trustworthy and he can be rest assured that there is evidence to support that the common ancestor was the real link to the evolution of humans.. he has got critical thinking skills.
and responded with "for hundreds of years schools have been teaching things and have changed their thoughts".
"If you can't read a book without looking up terminology on most pages it's out of your depth and requires considerable interest and determination." - KateWild
Yes this is true but unfortunately that is what it will take to answer your son's questions. Evolution is a difficult subject, simple premise but complicated mechanisms. But as you said, he is asking his own questions which is a good start.

All 3 editions of the same book. Very good but you will need google close at hand to look up some of the terminology. But if you really want to understand evolution without getting a degree then this book is certainly worth the effort (and cost...)

"Yes thanks we have read that website and he feels that he doesn't know whether or not to believe it" - KateWild
Ah, well all of that which is taught in schools (certainly in the UK anyway) is in agreement with the consensus of the scientific community so there is no question about believing it or not. However if he wants to understand the whys and wherefores he will have to study at a higher level or risk reading one of those biased books!

"Just checked out the book. A big fat no. I am not buying him anything by Dawkins. He is a fundamentalist and he writes with bias. I don't care if my son believes in God or not. I just want him to know evolution is a fact." - KateWild
Dawkins is a scientist with the experience and qualifications to talk about the subject you are interested in. This book isn't The God Delusion, it's a science book written for the layperson; written many years before he ventured into the God debate.
However if you don't want that then this bbc website designed to help high school revision should help.

Ruby456 -
What branch of Islam does not call for death for apostates, homosexuals, adulterers or does not call for the subjugation of Christians or Jews under the Dhimmi doctrine or the death or conversion of everyone else ... etc?
It's doesn't matter what a Muslim does, it matters what he or she is identifying with.

Islamophobia - The term carted out to silence any discussion about the problems of Islam by those that cannot justify their political or religious position using the types of arguments commonly employed when discussing other aspects of our cultural identity.
It is like the term "racist" which has become so overused by people trying to tarnish their opponent instead of dealing with the arguments made against them. It has come to the point where that term is becoming meaningless due to its (incorrect) overuse.
