"The denial of simple facts and logic here is astounding!"
Projection!
don't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

"But your parents and your parent’s siblings are of the same generation..."
No they aren't. There are 3 distinct generations there.
If you insist of redefining words then there is no point in a discussion with you, is there...

Lots of definitions there... You choose one.
And now compare...

This generation will not pass away.

Oh, and Bobby, saying something is a fact or is factual doesn't make it such.
However if you'd like to copy and paste some dictionary definitions of those two words we can make our own minds up, can't we...

Bobby...
I'm am a generation, my parents are another generation and my children are yet another generation. We are all contemporaries. Two different words conveying two different meanings.
If someone told my parents that their generation would not pass away I would be expecting the end anytime now.
If someone said my generation would not pass away I'd expect the end to come in a few decades at the most.
And if someone said my children's generation would not pass away...
However what has happened is they are now saying that all contemporaries of my grandparents will not pass away...
This is not scriptural and yes you do need to take note of definitions of words and the correct usage of such.

It is not semantics to show that you, and the watchtower, are misusing words.
It's nothing to do with anything other than the overlapping generation position relying on inaccurate usage of words. It is very simple, if your initial premise is false then every thing that follows will also be false.
Perhaps you should look up the definition of a semantic argument whilst you are online...

Contemporary and generation are defined differently I.e. they are not the same word and cannot be used interchangeably.
The scripture being used clearly reads 'generation', not 'contemporaries'.
Yes generations do overlap but the scripture does not mention anything about overlapping does it...
The nonsense being pedaled as inspired light with regards to this overlapping generations ignores the definition of these words as well as ignoring what the Bible actually says.
However we might as well be arguing over how many angels it takes to burn tight trousers because it's all bs, isn't it..
so i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.
i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.
i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.
Old Navy I have yet to see you write one argument that supports what you are saying. I have seen many logical fallacies, a large portion of projection and much irony but nothing that supports your assertions.
When will you get around to telling us just what, in your case, was the deciding factor that swung your opinion towards a creator?
It can't be something we don't know because, as you know, not knowing something is not evidence for, or a reason for, believing anything else. All that gap in knowledge tells us it that we don't know something...
It can't be an apparent design in nature because, as you know, we do not know how a creator created us therefore we would not know what to look for even if everything was created as you assert.
Most importantly of all, it can't be shown simply by rustling up a word salad and strewing clever sounding words almost randomly in numerous posts.

"okay I am confused. you say evolution do explain the origin of thought; @Coded Logic say evolution should not explain the origin of thought and wikipedia treat it as an unsolved problem." - Hot.
Evolutionary theory does explain the origin of thought. We all share a common ancestor and over time what we describe as 'thought' has evolved to what we see today. Remember what a scientific theory is and what it is not...
Evolutionary theory does not have to explain the origin of thought. The theory works anyway, even if we don't know everything yet.
The origin of thought has not yet been solved...
All 3 are accurate statements.
"Perhaps you too should write to wikipedia and provide your solution for how thought evolved?" - Hot.
Perhaps you should try to understand what a scientific theory is...

"I don't say evolution cannot explain thought in principle. I don't say thought proves evolution wrong. I say evolution RIGHT NOW don't explain the origin of thought well." - HB
Again, either you aren't explaining yourself in a manner that can accurately communicate to us your thoughts, or you still do not understand what a scientific theory is.
At the moment evolutionary theory does 'explain' the origin of thoughts in a satisfactory manner. By satisfactory I mean that it remains in harmony with known parameters and the predictions it makes with regards to this subject is verified by findings from various branches of inquiry; not all of which are tasked with looking at the emergence of thought directly.
However, and this is important, evolutionary theory in and of itself does not prove anything... It is the basis of a set of ideas that can then be tested. It is those more specific ideas that are shown to be true of false.
What is evolutionary theory (or the Theory of Evolution)? It is the idea that all the extant life on earth share a common ancestor and that all extant life has evolved from that common ancestor; in other words it simply offers an explanation of the diversity of life around us. From that simple idea stems all the knowledge we now have on this subject and that knowledge (based on scientific enquiry) supports the theory.

"evolutionary theory on the other hand have no explanation for a bunch of stuff, like the origin of thought." - HB
Are you sure? ... Also, you have to remember the explanatory power of evolutionary theory as it exists. You cannot throw the whole concept aside because you have managed to point to something you either do not know or it hasn't yet explained. If that was the case science wouldn't get anywhere because nothing would be considered explained.
"But u can't equate evolution to something like the standard model bc there are so many things about evolution we still don't know because it happened a billion years ago." - HB
It is amazing how much of an opinion you can have on something you clearly still do not understand. I'll give a hint: evolution is still happening now... Or are you confusing evolution with origin of life studies?
The geological landscape formed over billions of years and yet we can still say with certainty how it came about because the same geological processes are still happening now.
