^^ Here we see someone who is more interested in winning a debate rather than learning something.

How you, Earnest, can say that allowing the deaths of millions of people is a manifestation of love is beyond me. It is not subjective because the Bible explains clearly what love is and what one must do to love. The action or inactions of this god that is in control over everything demonstrates one way or the other if it is carrying out its own instructions on how to love. It is demonstrable that it does not follow its own rules; this, again, is not subjective.

Whether every single Christian believes this is irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is that the Bible clearly teaches us what love is (in their eyes), teaches us that god is love, and then demonstrates behaviours by this god that contradict the claim that god is love. Therefore the 'god is love' god does not exist...

Really? OK well let's apply your reasoning to this:

Also, people find it difficult to believe (i.e. are incredulous) that the apparent wondrous nature of the universe is not evidence of a Genie wishing the universe into being, and so they assume there is a Genie behind it all.

Also, Lasthursdayists find it difficult to believe (i.e. are incredulous) that the universe has existed for so long, and so they assume everything was created last Thursday.

Longs story short Earnest, if you buy into the nonsense spouted by these creationists and you repeat it then you will make yourself look silly.

i find three categories of people according to the way they display their human qualities—(1) more than humans, (2) less than humans and (3) mixed in those qualities in varying degrees.. when i observe how they are all faring with their choices, it tells me what i should do and what i should not do.

hence my scripture is the mankind and letters are living human beings—present and past.

though it is not possible to see beyond an individual’s birth, i can see the history of nations (collective individuals) beyond their present generation into their past, through many generations which shows how their past deeds contributed to their present reality.

Assuming that the universe was not wished into existence by a Genie is an argument from incredulity.

Assuming that my keys were not left in that silly place by the key demon is an argument from incredulity.

Assuming that everything we see around us did not appear only last Thursday and we only think we've been around for longer is an argument from incredulity.

The fact that something is an argument from incredulity means nothing in and of itself. Perhaps Behe (or any creationist come to that) could do some actual research to back up their claims instead of making up stupid 'just so' stories to tickle the ears of the eager flock of gullible fools who love their echo chambers...

He probably is a wonderful human being. Unfortunately this wonderful human being has been infected by the cult of Jehovah's Witnesses. He will be emotionally damaged and immature in many ways. He can be cured but not by pandering to his beliefs and his wishes.

It will be down to him (and him alone) to chose to leave the JWs and move on without them. It is very unlikely you will be able to do anything directly because he will have been indoctrinated his whole life to see all such attempts at help as Satanic manipulation to lead him away from 'the truth'.

I understand that he is probably afraid of losing all his family and friends but that is the price of leaving the JWs.

1 - If you want to join this cult then be prepared to cut off all ties with your current friends and, to an extent, your family. You will lose freedom of expression and be expected to fulfil a certain role in your husbands life (yes that reads correctly: you play a role in your husbands life).

2 - If you want to leave it all behind then dump him. Tell him you want nothing to do with such a damaging, unnatural cult!

3 - If you want to stay with him on your terms tell him you will be honest with his family about your current relationship (i.e. explaining about your normal healthy relationship) and see where that goes...

If you dump him hard he may just go back to the cult and find condolence in the belief that you were just another worldly woman sent to lead him astray.

If you dump him with love and explain why you want no part of a cult (don't mince your words) he will probably run back to the cult and believe you were just another worldly woman sent to lead him astray but he will also have time to dwell on you words and just maybe sort his head out enough to eventually leave the JWs.

more than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, and more than half have failed to reproduce their own experiments.

i didn't know it was so widespread...but it's a big problem in biology/medicine..

The interesting thing about peer review is not the peer reviewed piece itself but how many times that piece is cited by other scientists in their work; indeed not just how many times (if at all) but by who.

The charge against science here is serious and makes you wonder just how our knowledge and abilities have progressed if such things are true.

Well as usual the reality is not quite what is being portrayed in these headline-seeking articles.

Going back to what I initially stated, it is not what the peer reviewed article is, rather it is all about how it affects the scientific community as a whole. When a research paper is released the idea is to publish the findings of experiments and research so all of that teams peers around the world may benefit from the addition of knowledge in whatever field(s) the research has been undertaken. Good and helpful papers will then be cited as reference points in further experimentation which may further bolster the claims of the original paper (or debunk them) and so on and so forth.

After a while you will see certain papers being cited by other groups numerous times, particularly those papers at the boundaries of current understandings or those that are particularly useful for numerous avenues of research.

This is what science is all about after all; the passing on of knowledge

Contrast that with the types of peer reviewed articles that are only published to give support for a politicians angle or for a corporate need. You will rarely see them being cited at all. And why would that be? Because they exist solely to support that immediate goal and have no value as science in and of itself.

Scientists know this; Politicians know this; CEOs know this; The layman generally does not...

This is another reason not to allow yourself to remain scientifically illiterate.
