Sinboi,
Did Isaiah intend this prophecy to apply to a political situation of his day or to some event in the far flung future?
i don't think the wt ever say anything about this prophecy.
if they did, i think they will say it is symbolic and that it doesn't mean damascus will be destroyed literally,.
but watching the things happening now in syria , it seems very possible that it could happen.. if this prophecy comes true, will those of you here who have rejected the bible as the word of god think twice regarding the bible?.

i'm writing this tread for the people out there that are still looking for some kind of answers.
people who feel the void that any organized thought system can produce.
people who know there is more to this life than our daily routine which eventually will end, when we no longer exist.
Maybe he saw them because Jesus and Buddha do exist ~ New Boy
One wonders, would he have seen Jesus and Buddha if he had not taken Ayahuasca?

What Island Man said.
There are many ways to access to the unconscious and experience an altered state of consciousness:
- drugs
- meditation
- hypnosis
- near-death experiences
- religious epiphanies
- intense prayer and fasting chanting
- speaking repeatedly and ecstatically in tongues
to name a few (there are also altered states that arise from illnesses, such as a fever or psychosis).
I have personally experienced altered states of consciousness when I engaged in deep, strong, intense prayer and mediation.
I was simply following the WT's, Bible's and elder's advice to draw close to God, become absorbed with him through deep prayer and meditation however, unknown to myself, I was actually self-inducing, voluntarily inducing an altered state of consciousness by doing this.
I posted my experience in this thread:
https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/6318622471356416/spirit-channeling-wallkills-bethel
Indeed, drugs can provide access to the inner world of the unconscious.
During a drug-induced (or otherwise induced) altered state of consciousness, you bypass the conscious, active processing of information in your brain and instead "see" directly into the deep levels of your subconscious where "unprocessed files" are buried.
You are just churning up unprocessed thoughts, impressions, images, visions, voices, words etc from the deep levels of your subconscious.
This also opens the way to the unlocking of a deep level of consciousness where psychic and extrasensory perception can be done. New insights well up directly from the fluid matrix of the subconscious and the subtle processing taking place there, without having to be first processed at the conscious level.
Our minds are never perfectly still. There is always subtle
processing going on in which we can't consciously identify the thoughts in terms of clear words or clear images. There are rapid and fleeting associations taking place in the subconscious mind.
Drugs like Ayahuasca can provide access to the unconscious, and help associate dissimilar things in meaningful ways.
This is perhaps the reason why drugs like Ayahuasca are used in the treatment alcohol addicts.
The renown psychologist Carl Jung made the excellent point that when trauma, distress unresolved issues, concerns, fears, worries etc are buried in the subconscious, if they are not dealt with, then they will take on a life of their own.
A lot of times people just can't verbalize, articulate, identify, label what is going on inside them, while whatever is buried in their unconscious takes on a life of its own as there is no intervention.
Drug-induced altered state of consciousness can help such persons face and experience the unpleasant, frightening contents of their collective unconscious.

Wake me Up Before You Jo-Ho,
I did give you credit for this comment in my earlier post on page 4 of this thread:

No offence intended but I guess everyone is different - it would put a smile on my face if someone should find a comment I made useful, whether or not they gave me credit for it. I’m just glad I’m helping people undo religious indoctrination

You and the ex-Satanist have God to thank for your demon possession.
It was important for God to get rid of the pesky demons from heaven in order to protect his spiritual family (Revelation 12).
But then instead of confining the devil and his demons to the galaxy farthest from earth God decided to banish Satan and the demons to our planet for us to deal with them and we now have to fight them.
God seems to take delight in feeding into Satan's desire to harm and destroy His creation instead of simply casting Satan and the demons to some obscure, gaseous ball of hydrogen 45 billion light years away.

I am extremely happy to know that you have overcome your panic attacks.
Whether or not God exists, I still maintain that it is not reasonable to believe that God will protect you from demons but not the people in the holocaust who cried out for his help just like you did, yet they were still herded into the gas chambers. No deliverance from the fiery furnace there (Daniel 3).
There are many stories of people crying out for God's help daily, yet no help comes.
Am I supposed to believe that you are more special than all of these people?

...I think we've come at an impasse in our discussion ~ knowsnothing 1
No, we have not come to an impasse. I was just making it easy for you as I note that you have selectively responded to the various points which I have raised. You have been avoiding the hard questions.
For example, you have not been able to provide a satisfying answer to my question regarding the scope of God's protection. Isn't demonic attack an evil too? Why does God only protect persons from demonic attack and not from all other forms of evil as well (natural or otherwise)? This doesn't make sense to me.
It was only through God's power that I stopped having the panic attacks. I tried everything I could in my own hands to control it, but I couldn't ~ knowsnothing 1
Did you seek medical/psychological/psychiatric attention?

knowsnothing1,
I think this is a good point at which to end our discussion as we have both found a framework/worldview/narrative/paradigm which helps us make sense of our experiences and give us the structure we need to prevent a breakdown of identity and psychological disintegration.
I found relief of my symptoms by simply stop engaging in deep, strong, intense prayer and meditation. Some persons have had to be hospitalized or seek medical attention in order to successfully treat the adverse side effects/symptoms. Fortunately this was not the case for me.
On the other hand, you found relief of your distressing anxiety symptoms by turning to God and so it will be difficult for you to accept any other explanation of what you experienced.
I am not surprised by this as voluntary intensification of religious beliefs/practice is usually the result of a "religious experience" such as yours. Such intensification is usually one of the coping mechanisms used to deal with distress/trauma, and is associated with the need to find meaning in the distressing event in order to avoid a breakdown of identity.
You value the so-called "spiritual dimension" of your experience:
You rather a broken egg in a glass of water tell you that demons are attacking you and you need cleansing; you rather perceive your distressing experience of anxiety attacks as manifestations of external spiritistic agents than look intrapsychically for explanations based on your own internal psychological processes.
I can see why you are so inclined because we have all been raised to believe that God and demons influence everything.
In my case, I only wish I had discovered the harm which I was doing to myself much much much sooner. This harmful experience has unequivocally taught me that there was no one listening to me while I was earnestly praying and meditating in a sincere effort to draw close to God, develop a personal relationship with him and become deeply absorbed with him as the scriptures recommend - I was just making myself sick.
Best wishes.

I note that you have selectively responded to the 6 points which I raised.
Please note that I stated nothing about whether or not God exists. I'm simply asking about the scope of God's protection. Isn't demonic attack an evil too? Why does God only protect persons from demonic attack and not from all other forms of evil as well (natural or otherwise)? This doesn't make sense to me.

Have you ever been so deeply absorbed with God and prayed, meditated deeply, strongly and intensely to the point where you alter your state of consciousness?
It is a fact that (unknown to me at the time) you can pray, meditate, fast, chant, ecstatically speak in tongues or engage in other spiritual practices until you alter your state of consciousness which can subsequently lead to mystical and/or psychotic experiences.
All of the references which I have provided throughout our discussion are testimony to this fact. Many persons have experienced this besides myself:
