I went to the Watchtower Study with the "Selma and Steve" article today, and....
by cedars inno, i didn't really - but i'm anxious to hear from anyone who did!!.
what happened after the paragraph was read?
did anyone try to denounce abusing one's spouse under any circumstances, or were most answers supportive of the "advice" given to selma, i.e.

Morbid - I was probably marked becuase when I was in and married I refused to take my ex husband's name. The elders insisted on calling me by his name and they insisted I fill out my reports with his name. I stopped commenting at meetings and filling out reports. When I was aksed why, I told them my name and that if they couldn't accept me by that name then I wasn't going to fill out reports and answer to someone else's name.

How many have gotten interested in Human Services, Charity, Social Justice, Social Work and the like after awakening to Watchtower aberrance?
by Fernando inwhilst under watchtower influence i had little interest or awareness in these areas.. now they have become a passion.. i wonder if it has something to do with the "cult identity or self" versus the "authentic identity or self" as outlined by steven hassan in the "interacting with dual identities" chapter of his book "releasing the bonds - empowering people to think for themselves".. who has had a similar experience and/or change of career related to unplugging from the watchtower?.
or a story to tell?.

I became a teacher. I help my students learn to think critically so they won't be duped. I also help oraganize coat drives and charities that help children and families. Something I was not able to do as a Witness.

Many of the elders in my former congregation were inept, irresponsible and dogmatic. They reached out to beome elders because they could never make it in the real world. Only in a twisted, backward, misogynistic religion could they acheive the power and prominence they crave.

Introduction Bio
by JakeM2012 inhi everyone, i would like to introduce myself and tell my story.
from the standpoint of being one of jehovahs witnesses, my whole family is deeply involved as i was the 5th generation of witness and any children that my brothers or sister have will be the sixth generation.
as some of my brothers and sisters are grandparents, i guess that makes their grandchildren a potential 7th generation.

My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

Animosity Toward Inactive Ones
by EmptyInside ini don't understand why many witnesses are cold toward inactive ones.
aren't they supposed to want to help them and encourage them?.
i know of a young woman,i've known forever, who married a non-witness,and hasn't been to the meetings for awhile.

New Chapter - I started preparing to leave when I planned to divorce my first husband. My sister friends knew the marriage was in shambles and I was very unhappy. Yet when I DA'd myself all they could say is "She started going back for to college for a grad degree. She missed meetings and grew weak." Not a single one stopped to think that I was depressed, lonely and would soon have to get a job to support myself. All they could say is how I left the "Truth" because I went back to college. They were people I knew for 20 years and they all turned their back on me and rallied around my ex. They still try to ask my mother and sister about me once in a while. I bet they are saddened to learn that I am doing fine.

I've not seen them for four years - elder puts Memorial invite on my door
by truthseeker ini just came back from shopping, was about to pull up in the driveway and noticed an elder from my old hall and his young child working the territory.. i waited till they left and parked.
i noticed i was the only one who got a memorial invite, none of my neighbors got one.
so they weren't working the territory but stopped by to give me an invite.

My mother has been inactive for over 5 years. A few weeks ago she was shunned in the grocery store by a "brother" and a "sister". Last weekend the "brother's" son came to my parents' house wanting to hand deliver a memorial invitation. My non JW Dad answered the door and said my Mom was out. The "brothers" treat her like a leper but want her to come to the memorial. I don't get it
