Jehovah Misses Me

made the mistake of opening the front door today...i was expecting someone to service our central heating...oh dear, it was a sister instead :(.

she tells me jehovah misses me.

it seems god only sees me if i go to the meetings.

The self righteousness of JWs really is crazy. So Jehovah misses you because you aren't going to meetings? But of course, you couldn't possibly be having a wonderful relationship with God outside of the JWs right? Apparanetly they have a monopoly on God.

I remember a family member of mine was telling me about an issue she was having and she was like..." But at least I can pray about it to God".....and I was thinking....yeah, everyone can pray to God and there are many Christians outside the JWs that have a fulfilling relationship with God and feel they are being blessed,etc. They are soooo deranged....

Loosing your Privleges and Scumbag elders

so 9 months before i started pioneering, i had a hot and heavy moment with this player witness who was just trying to string me along and talked to a lot of different girls.

we made out and he grabbed my goodies a few times you know the regular stuff all teens do at least once.

anyways i never saw him again because when i refused to send him nudes he dropped me.

Let's just think about that again. Pioneering is a "privilege". Wasting your time knocking on doors trying ro save them from Armageddon...because talking ro people directly about religion uninvited at their doors is the best way to open their minds...haha!

They just did you a giant favor. You're free now from your so called privilege. You sound like a sharp girl. Too sharp to be wasting your life peddling a dying religion.

An honest look at the situation

i was brought up in the truth.

i saw a lot unchristian things going on in my local body of elders, my dad was an elder and waiting outside elders meetings to go home with my mum and other wives, we sometimes heard raised voices in the 2nd school.

the other mums would raise their voices as well thinking of something to say to hide the elders 'private' arguments.. my dad hated it all, i think he hated having to keep things secret from my mum and me.. anyway, i got baptised, and as we did back then didnt think about further education but instead pioneered.

Alot of us on the forum have gotten our degrees as "older" adults. That might be an option and it gives the kids an example to follow. That was part of the reason I went back to school.

I think one of the things that helped me the most once I left the organization is just figuring out what I really wanted to do with my life and working towards that. It's been a few years but I can honestly say that work has paid off. Kids are out/lots of good relationships with people.

A therapist once gave me some very good advice. She said the answer to "why" was "yes". I don't know why elders/my family/etc act the way they do. But we have to accept that's the way it is and make our choices accordingly. Personally, I could never go to meetings again because I am all too aware of the hypocrisy that is there and it no longer "fulfills" me.

i remember an elder questioning a woman who had admitted to giving and receiving oral sex from her unbelieving mate.

he asked her the most intimate questions which clearly flustered her.

interestingly, she “confessed “ to the elders because her conscience bothered her.

@PeteZahut The birds of prey theory was going around strong in some congregations. I remember being on a vacation trip with my ex husbands family and the aunt looked at the sky at a flock of birds and commented that Armageddon was near because of the increase of birds of prey because they needed to help get rid of the bodies.....

The demon stories...where do i even start? It seems that there was always a JW moving into a house full of demons and when the elders searched the house there was a little stamp/medallion/cross of Jesus/Virgin Mary/Saint. As soon as they threw out the little medallion- everything was normal. The fact that this was around the time all the Poltergeist movies were popular just added to the paranoia and hysteria about demons.

1986- proclaimed year of "peace and security" - now Armageddon was really close! Everyone was buzzing with excitement that year.

I don't have too much knowledge of the older stuff (thank gawd)

But my personal favorites: Revelation/ Daniel book/Isaiah Prophesy , I can' even remember that well but honestly they were all like reading Nostradamus prophesies. Just when you were so happy to finally finish , they brought out another one....And we had to study them verse by verse....it was just flipping back and forth from modern/ancient time application and literal/symbolic completely arbitrarily all fitting JW history. WTF?

Meeting Days Felt Different?

i dont know if it was the same for you, but for me when i was a jw meeting days seemed to have a black cloud hanging over them.

on thursdays i knew i would be going to the meeting that evening.

that i would be getting into my meeting clothes at 6:30pm, leaving the house at 6:55pm and be sat in the kingdom hall from 7:15pm-9pm, then milling around for about half an hour before finally getting home for 10pm.

Actually meeting days gave me an opportunity to get out of the house and socialize. I was a stay at home mom so I got to dress up get out of the house and see my friends. Enduring the actual meeting was rough, but obviously I was in it for the friends as I'm sure so many others. Often we would go out to eat afterwards to a nice restaurant.

Just goes to show we all have a wide variety of experiences as JWs. But I totally get how horrible just going to meetings for the sake of the meetings themselves if you happen to be in a congregation with just older folks or super strict.

How is life better?

i know this thread has probably been covered in the past but i thought it would be nice for newbies and lurkers and just a reminder to those that left a while ago.. how has your life improved since leaving the cult?

are you happy?

have you made some amazing friends or maybe met an amazing partner in the world?.

Got a BA- traveled and was able to save my kids from being raised JW. I learned what true friends are and have an amazing network of support where people don't turn their back on you because you think differently.

Learned how to be an adult and own up to my own choices. I try to make better ones now. Don't have to check in with anyone about those choices. No need to consult a magazine or an elder- learned how to trust my gut and go with what works for me. I learned how to let other people be themselves too so I have a very diverse group of friends which I love. I learned what respect really means as opposed to all of us having to have the same opinions/thoughts. Have a job that pays pretty well and a side gig that I love.

Shit still happens sometimes, but I can't even imagine what my life would be like if I still was a JW. It's so incredibly limiting. Now I feel like I have so many options open to me and I no longer beat myself up for silly things, like not commenting or missing service or all the ridiculous rules and regulations that JWs have thought of to keep you busy busy in nonsense. No wonder I was on antidepressants for years when I was a JW. Never had to take pills once I was out.

Loving a JW

here’s a little back story.

i met this jw girl 4 months ago online and found out she was a jw 2 months later after confessing my liking for her.

we had a long conversation about it with her explaining what exactly a jw is and the rules and what not.

Before you invest anymore in this relationship I would suggest you end things. This is a very difficult situation to be in right at the start of a relationship- when things should be amazing and easy. Why start with all this difficulty from the get-go? And you really don't have to deal with any of this- you're not married to her/you don't have children together. There are so many women out there - move on to the next one.

Unless you're kind of a masochist...then, by all means, move forward. I guess giving her space would be good- than she wouldn't be able to ever pin the fact that she left her family for you....

If she wants to leave, let her leave without you in the picture at all. Then you'll know it was really what she wanted to do (and she'll know that too).

and believe me they are all still totally oblivious to all the negative news about the pedophiles and shunning that have come under scrutiny by the media and other governments.

It takes alot of effort to leave. You basically have to redo your life from scratch. Even if JWs know it's not true, they'll stay just out of complacency until they die. In fact, I'd say in general lots of folks are like that- especially as they get older.

There is no scandal/development that will create a mass exodus- i think that's a little delusional.
