I used a resignation to fade, and cited the scripture that said that if you did provide for your own household you were worse than an unbeliever.

Post KM Elder School, you may see elders become a little nosier or nebby than usual.
by Theocratic Sedition inafter reading through onedayillbefree's thread about being taken into the back room and asked inappropriate questions, i was reminded about a part done at the km school.
one of the common themes throughout the one day school was viewing things the way god sees them and how doing so will require that elders develope insight.
they defined insight as, evaluating individual aspects in light of others, or getting & understanding facts and how all relate to one another.. next, they gave specific examples where an elder will need insight in order to assist wayward sheep.

DC hotel list shortened
by Honeybucket inwe got our list of hotels available for our convention in the greater seattle area and there are only 3 hotels willing to have a watchtower block.. my mil thinks its because "as the society warns us to not do, people book rooms and then end up being a no show or cancel on short notice".
maybe its because they realize the jw's really arent the "most outstanding patrons" as they claim to be.
lets not forget that all wordly people that stay.

Watchtower has so many antiquated proceedures. I haven't notices any discount what-so-ever in the last 15 years of my attendance. At one time you could get a step up in hotel for about what you pay for a Motel 8. Now, their negotiated rate is the same price that everybody has access to.
I barked 20 years ago that they needed to get out of the travel agency business. One of the problems I see is that if you are an elderly person, have a mate or family member with special needs, the one size fits all approach doesn't cut it. I remember many times that WT would prohibit publishers from booking the hotel across the street from the convention but the closest thing they ever made arrangements for were 30 miles away. If elderly in a strange city do you want to be traveling that far?
The society uses their cash rewards back at the regional kingdom hall building program, they don't pass the cash back rewards on to the congregations building as a savings, they pocket them. I know that some brothers had reward program credit cards that felt guilty for staying at the nicer hotel just across the street from the convention.
Especially with all the web sites for travel again, Wt just needs to hang it up.
May be that only a minority of the friends use the hotels provided or are disobedient.

Stop Putting Apostate Stickers On My Literature! They "Cost Lots of Money!"
by AuntConnie in"true story" the circuit overseer came to our kingdom hall and read us the riot act (local needs style) "magazines of this quality are not free, they cost money and we are not generating enough donations to defray the cost of the magazines(or running the top of the line printing presses) i get my ass out of bed to place literature in the laundray cleaning, coin opperated shops and some asshole puts his apostate stickers on our magazines.
do you know how hard it is to get up at 6:00 am and how expensive those magazines are costing the organization to print?
please stop defiling our literature, i dont post hateful stickers on your website so please leave my magazines alone.

Aunt Connie Says, "Back to the literature, scraggle witnesses would order, clean out whole cabinets of expensive items. This happened again and again, "special order" Insight Books" "Reference Bibles" filled the trunks of senial and poor witnesses. They might bring back a dollar, most often they never asked for a voluntary donation "It's all free" Eventually special order items became so guarded, literature servants intentionally threw away requests from the same people, who kept requesting large or unbalanced quantites (twenty sets of insight books, twenty Reference Bibles), same friends who needed money from the Kingdom Hall account to attend the conventions."
Oh, once I was awake about WT, I was the literature servant from hell that the society would not like. I ordered stuff if people just asked about it. You want how many deluxe bibles? Ok, let's just make that a bakers dozen (a month). The society recommends that we don't go door to door with old raggidy bibles. Better yet, the large print is what the elders are using on stage, so I would seriously ask brother coming up, "the elders are clearly setting the example that they want us to use a large print bible"? Ok, 2 more large print reference bibles. Another six year old giving his first bible reading??? "Oh, he's so cute he needs a nice large print bible". He could hardly carry that bible to the stage. But I was there for the brothers.
Cassette tapes of all the scriptures? Ok, brother. I ordered them one at a time. I even think I still have boxes of deluxe bibles still in the plastic wrapper. I had people requesting those new DVD's so much I had a regular supply just to give out if someone was possibly overlooked. Even with the song cd's, "brother, don't you think your wife would enjoy listening to these kingdom melodies??? You'll need some for each car and a copy for all your teenagers. 6 cd's Cha-ching!!
I would intentionally stay in the back at the literature counter after the meeting started just so when people realized they didn't have a song book or bookstudy book, man I was there,...."here's one for each in your family". Cha-ching, Oh,brother or sister "haven't been here in a while", "here is the whole library of the latest publications, wouldn't want you behind". Let me get a box. Oh, by the way have you picked up you daily text from three years ago, well, here you are, want this years also????
However, if the PO (cob? or whatever) or secretary or their families ordered, I would make them wait about a whole week to get their stuff just so it looked like I was ordering the stuff. I'd take their full order to them the next week and they would say, "that was fast", I would comment that "the brothers are working around the clock to fill our spiritual needs", ....and I intented to keep those presses running around the clock.
Text, Yearbooks, and bound volumes????? I would gently encourage, "Brother, you should have one in each car, bookbag, one for work, and play, one for the breakfast table (family head thing), one for the meetings, (in case of a part). I'd suggest when a brother ordered the WT library "Well, brother the Library CD is fine, but what if we are under persecution, do you think we will have electricity to run a computer, or what if the superior authorities have a megatron that throws out an electric impulse to deactivate our computers or phones so that we could not communicate with one another??? Yes, we better order you at least 3 sets of bound volumes, one for you to hide from the "superior authorities in the backyard, better bury it deep though, they have those xray machines to locate hiden stach..., Oh, the good times I had. MaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaa

Aunt Connie has had her show on the last few nights. She certainly is entertaining, but I would not take her too seriously. It must be some bored teenagers thinking they are playing with darth vader.

Publishers Need A Background Check Before Moving To My Kingdom Hall.

"I can think of one very recent example in our hall where a sister openly and publicly did not invite some kids of a single parent family to join in with an event she organised because the parent is not 100% regular at all the meetings."
Yes, i grew up with this; it is interesting that witnesses try to emotionally hurt the little ones and can justify it because they are keeping the congregation clean, at the same time talk about the love of the brotherhood.

Yes, a wonderful performance, haven't we heard enough from Auntie Connie... How about just ignoring her, that will make her rant even more.
Actually, Aunt Connie sounds just like my sister-in-law married to the PO; never liked her.

I wish there was an Aunt Connie in every hall; if so the Aunt Connie group would be more powerful than any apostate or their websites. Aunt Connie just needs some encouragement, but don't give her a gun, please.

AuntConnie,
I have never heard it illustrated this way, but you are spot on with the 5 flushes. The clicks in the hall will see to it that the Kingdom Hall party is by invitation only. And if you don't think they have power, you'd better think twice, because they can make your life miserable. I've been in the click, and also have been internally shunned. Once your off the party boat and swim to shore, you meet others that have experienced the same hatred.
As far as the background check mentioned, I have heard of an elder that ran a background check on a brother that moved in and found an old DUI. His life was living hell after that.

I will have to agree that our personal experience with jw's regarding education will vary depending on our particular time and place. My father sold a profitable business in 1968 because he had enough money to last through 1975.
My older siblings were destined to pioneer for at least 2 years after high school and until they married or go to bethel for four years. Even in our city and circuit there were differing congregational opinions depending upon the elders. I know in some congregations that there was more of an influence to get kids out and preaching as early as possible, like 16. My wife's family was like that and she is younger than I, but she did finish high school, but pioneered until she married me and then some bethel. (Gran has also preached to my daughter that she only needs the minimum and to shortly get into pioneering)
Personally, I also finished high school. I took college prepatory courses as my parents did not question me about what courses I was taking. I planned on studying structural engineering and fully disclosed this to Dad in 1979. He enlisted my brother, his son, also the PO to basically hammer me on this. Dad also copied about 30 pages of Wt and Awakes on education, as some have been mentioned these articles here. Basically, the jest of the articles were this system doesn't have 4 years left in it.
Dad hammered also until I told him I appreciated their concern but didn't see any scriptural reason not to continue in my goal to become a Professional Engineer. He then told me that I would have to leave home if I were to go to college. This devestated me, as I would be on the streets.
Believe me, I still regret caving to their bullying. My father apologized before his passing, but my older brother and I haven't talked in over 7 years.
Perhaps some of our friends in Europe could expand on this, as I understand that higher education over there is anything over a 4 year college. They also don't frown on beards as bad as here in the U.S.
Peace
