Bethel has always been closet labor camp. They will always need new people to replace the ones they burn out.

Interesting That in the Regional Convention They Are Asking for More Volunteers to Bethel
by RubaDub infor those of us who could sit through the program so far, i did find it interesting that they are again asking for people to apply to bethel.. i happened to speak to a friend who called and asked him why they would do that.
his response was that, well, they need younger people there.. i guess once you are over 50 or something you are eligible to be sent out to pasture..

The real Dracula?
by LoveUniHateExams ini'm a bit of a horror fan - i love horror movies and the novel dracula by bram stoker is a pretty good read - especially the first four chapters, with jonathan harker being in dracula's castle.. i've heard before that stoker based count dracula on a 15th century voivod (prince) of wallachia who went down in history as vlad the impaler - apparently, he was extremely barbaric and cruel, as his name suggests.. vlad's father was also called vlad.
daddy vlad was apparently part of an order of crusader knights, the order of the dragon.
this order was formed to protect christian europe against muslim ottomans/turks.

I saw that myself. i thought the modern era was good but the “past” story line really hooked me and drew me in

Did you ever know a JW who was political?
by wolverines inone black sister would always slam the jews when there was anything on the radio or tv about the palestinian's.
i knew others who had other ideas that were strange and not neutral as we were told to be.
the black sister would dress like she was from africa in a dashiki robe from time to time.

Anna maria, you clearly missed the four times we studied the revelation book in the congregation book study.

Did you enjoy some of these back then?
by Mandrake ini was bored to death this sunday, and suddenly i remembered that it could be worse if having to attend the public meeting on a sunday, even worse, not being assigned to the sound department, accomodating, being the mic guy, or reading the wt at the platform... then i realized that i hated just "attending" and sitting at meetings, those "privileges" were the only thing i enjoyed and made my last months inside bearable.... did you enjoy these assignments?

New day, i took a turn as secretary myself. One time and one time only the CO chastised me for missing time. I explained that I tried and ran after people etc etc but cant force someone to call or text me back. He said he didnt care it was my job to make it happen no matter what....
from that day forward if someone did not turn in time i just averaged out their previous months and made it up. It was amazing that our congregation never had anyone inactive again.

I live near Washington, DC so its not unusual for the dubbies to have a political view but they generally kept it very quiet... until obama got elected. For some reason a whole lot of them felt it was ok to be proud of the first black president

Yep. It broke up the monotony of the “meeting”. As an elder you could always manufacture something to be doing besides being mind numbed with repetitive s**t meeting after meeting.

In the USA, why so often is the vote for President just a vote against someone?
by RubaDub inin my lifetime, (i will include kennedy even though i was probably breast-feeding at the time), but it seems that there have been relatively few presidents that we vote "for.
" my list would be kennedy, reagan, clinton and obama.
i'm not talking about their politics here but who generally got voted for, instead of simply voting against.. any thoughts?.

Because its a two party system. In a binary situation you have two motivations, for or against, and one of the two moves you. You move towards reward and away from pain. The result is that the electorate, which largely sees the government as oppressive and “hurtful”, moves towards the option of least pain resulting in a vote “against” someone as opposed to for someone.
The real joke that both parties are the same side of the coin.

What to say to WT Publishers
by Anna Marina inon bbc radio this morning there was a 20 minute piece on jws and the child abuse cover up.
i am already receiving reaction to it from a number of sources.
it occurred to me - if you were giving ordinary members of the public a steer on how to deal with wt publishers what would you advise?.

Respectfully, your argument is very esoteric and wouldn't scratch the mental fog of a JW in the slightest. Im not even sure what your augment is, at its core. jW’s would quickly tell you they serve the desert god and recognize his son as king of his kingdom and dismiss your assertions to the contrary.
I have had some success waking up dubbies it has always come from having a good relationship with them and taking time to plant a few seeds that make them think and then lead them to do some thinking on their own on issues that they already have doubts on. The key is really freeing their mind to think. 99% of them already have doubts and things that nag at them, you only have to encourage them to think on it more.
