I can understand the attraction. The Book of Mormon contains "Jehovah" twice.

Why Are You Here?
by Believer ini'm wondering why believers remain members of this forum which is clearly hostile to believers.
as one member said, nonbelievers pounce on any semblance of belief like piranhas on prey.
as former jws we should have had our fill of judgmental know-it-alls, but here we are.

I'm here to find info, to read experiences and many times to learn from fellow ex-JW's/lurkers and their perspectives.
As one member said, nonbelievers pounce on any semblance of belief like piranhas on prey.
Don't you love them heated debates?!? By the way, do you know how to catch a piranha the easy way? Just dunk raw meat into the water. When they bite, shake them off into a bucket.

Do you still believe in the concept of absolute truth?
by JW_Rogue injws very much believe that there is an absolute truth and of course, they are the only ones who have it lol.
how about now though do you still believe that absolute truths exist?
or is everything subjective?

I believe that "truth" or "truths" exists, although it would at least take a brain, mind or neural system to even know that things "are", but calling something "absolute truth" bears very much the characeristics of something that is extremely constant, some sort of never changing universal value. God would definitely be the best candidate for such an absolute truth, but of course, many of us here doubt his existence.
To say that Pluto was the 9th planet of our solar system, was the truth between 1930 and 2006. Was it absolute truth? No. By man-made definition it's a dwarf planet now. Science constantly defines and classifies things, so slimboyfat was right about the notion of human perspective.
I think it is absolute truth to say that Pluto existed before its discovery.
I also think it is even more an absolute truth that we are alive, but to be honest, I'd rather go for an 99,99999 % absolute truth, than for a 100% one

Three days ago, we could read about a great new book on WT doctrinal changes here:
This book is not the only one in its kind, but it truly kicks ass! It was so up-to-date that it not only covered the period from 1879 to 2015, but also the first 6 months of 2016! What I found was new "light" on the inkhorn and who will put the mark on. Last related topic on this site I could find was this one from 7 months ago. In it, Geoffrey Jackson stated (at the AGM) that the "man with a secretary's inkhorn," of Ezekiel chapter 9 was Jesus Christ.
So now those statements from the AGM finally made it to the written pages of the june (study) edition of the WT. Another one to add to the endless bulk of doctrinal changes..
The "ever-changing-teachings" book says this:
The one who will put the “mark” is Jesus with His angels during the “great tribulation” (teaching since 2016)
Whom do the man with the secretary’s inkhorn and the six men with smashing weapons described in Ezekiel’s vision symbolize?
They picture heavenly forces that were involved in the destruction of Jerusalem and that will also be involved in the destruction of Satan’s wicked system at Armageddon.(...) In the past, we have explained that in the modern-day fulfillment of this vision, the man with the secretary’s inkhorn represented the anointed remnant. It was thought that those who respond favorably to the message being preached are now marked for survival. In recent years, however, it has become clear that an adjustment needs to be made to this explanation. According to what is stated at Matthew 25:31-33, Jesus is the one who judges people. He makes his final judgment during the time of the great tribulation, separating the sheeplike ones, who will survive, from the goatlike ones, who will be destroyed. (...) In the modern-day fulfillment, the man with the secretary’s inkhorn represents Jesus Christ, the one behind the scenes who marks those who will survive. The great crowd will receive their mark when they are judged as sheep during the great tribulation. This will put them in line to receive everlasting life here on earth.— Matt 25:34, 46. In the modern-day fulfillment, the six men with smashing weapons represent Jesus’ heavenly armies with Jesus himself at the head. They will soon destroy the nations and all wickedness.—Ezek. 9:2, 6, 7; Rev. 19:11-21. (The Watchtower June 2016 pp. 16-17).
So, Jesus is the man now and now we finally know...
I like this resource very much, and there is so much more to explore! Isn't it great to have such a new and up-to-date book that (among other fine books and websites) again exposes all the flip-flop teachings and doctrinal changes of the WT and reminds us of all the blessings of the information age. A powerful tool in the right hands! Thanks WTS Archive!

Love is Greater than Hate
by Coded Logic inthis week has been a really difficult past couple of days.
waking up to the news on sunday that some jihadist jackass had slaughtered so many of my lgbt brothers and sisters left me reeling and in tears.
we're a community with common cause and a common struggle and it's immensely painful to see the loss of so many young and beautiful lives.

Ever-changing teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses - probably the most comprehensive compendium about Watchtower doctrinal changes
by WTS Archive intwo days ago a new book was released for download, called "ever-changing teachings of jehovah's witnesses".
it was originally written by a polish jw scholar (who never was a jw himself) włodzimierz bednarski, with a help from szymon matusiak, who was a jw and an elder, and is a result of years of labourious work to compile quotes regarding every single doctrine the book describes.
it covers the most important changes in years 1879—2015.

Stumbled on this WTS archive site two days ago while doing a google search for "The Harp of God" in pdf lol. Now I know why no one ever mentioned it before on this forum, it was just launched! Great gems to be found there, including "Ever Changing teachings..." "Talking with the Dead?" also was an intriguing read, thanks!
