To me, it also was omission by NOT telling there was a new visitor in the house...a hyper-intelligent deceptive fallen angel and potential serial killer that also was a master illusionist. What lovingly father allows his children to play in a park while knowing there's such a hideous and invicible psychopath out there looking for victims? Oh...he gave them ONE warning...that'll do.

Is Jehovah God guilty of the Sin of Omission ?
by smiddy inin genesis ch.1&2 god warns adam that if he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and bad he would die .theire was nothing said about anything else.. you would expect humans would just die of old age like adam and eve did.. the wages of sin is death the bible tells us .so if he disobeyed jehovah god he knew he would die .. what he never knew and neither did any other human to come after him was just how many ways death would come to humans.. death by creatures that were created by god venomous creatures ,snakes spiders etc.,marine creatures sharks etc., bacteria /viruses etc.,insect carrying diseases such as the mosquito that causes thousands of deaths to children under 5 years old even today with malaria.,wild animals etc,.leprosy that even existed under theocratic rule in the nation of israel.. then their is the indignties humans go through in old age ,loss of bodily functions , mental capacity ,alzheimers ,neurological diseases that effect young and old.that reduce people to almost live not much better than a vegetable .
natural disasters not to be excluded because these are in the control of god to afflict mankind or not.. the list of afflictions that humans have to suffer through before they die , from a loving god just boggles my mind.. and i have only scratched the surface of indignities humans have faced before they die.. so i ask the question is god jehovah guilty of the sin of omission ?
or did he act out of vengeance for their disobedience and wanted to inflict greater punishment upon them.for disobeying him.. what are your thoughts ?.

Any atheists here? Have you come to terms with your new reality?
by kpop inalone, without my safety net of "god" being there to remember me when i die.
after much consideration, examining science, history and using logic, i have come to the conclusion that there is no "god" at least certainly no loving, personal "god.
" shortly before my final conclusion was reached, i read an excerpt from an expression attributed to marcus aurelius, .

I'm jealous at the people who have found peace in atheism. I'm not ready for that step and I'm not sure if I ever will. Accepting that there is no one true religion was no problem for me. But finding out that miracles/events such as turning water in wine, salvation through a blood sacrifice, riding on an ass have Greek/Roman origins scares the shit out of me. It would really hurt me if even a historical figure like Jesus would be "pagan" and a fraud.
I tell you, cleaning up the hard-disc never was so hard!

PUT YOUR THINKING CAPS ON...AGAIN! (Zeb's thread regarding 1914)

for those who like stats and numbers may find this of interest.1914 – recognizing the ”the elephant in the room”.
the problem with the date ”1914 ad” lays with the two calendars that are involved – jewish and gregorian.

Finkelstein > Really TTATT is that the ancients propagated the suggestion that a god like savior would come to earth and save mankind of its perils, those expressive suggestions came from other diverse ancient civilizations as well.
I appreciate your input finkelstein, and you're right about that, but if TTATT includes proof that WT used Gregorian instead of Jewish calender and therefore came to the wrong conclusion of 1914 (it should've been 1886 according to the OP), then I have the right to ask the same thing about the use of the Jewish calender regarding the calculations for the 70 years of desolation. That's all, no means to stir up any theological debate.
One of the obvious mistakes religionists make is not understanding or accepting that ancient mythology is fictional and the bible is full of it from beginning to end.
I get your point, but it's not about whether we consider the bible as myth, but about how we come to historical conclusions by use of calculations. We're not talking about talking snakes here and I can't help it that these numbers are from the Bible. I assume you don't consider the destruction of Jerusalem and the use of Jewish calenders to be myths, do you?

NewYork44M > Any discussion of 1914 is silly.
A discussion about the concequences of using the Gregorian calender compared to the Jewish calender isn't. It goes beyond 1914, it involves the dating of ALL historical events from a biblical perspective. That perspective is needed to achieve accuracy.......(Jerusalem destroyed in 587 bce leading to TTATT?...anyone???)

Follow up: the baby did not survive
by Captain Schmideo2 init was always a long shot anyway.
but, after a week of emotional pain for the mom, and extreme physical pain for a helpless infant, the baby's body finally succumbed.. all those prayers from the parents, from family, from friends, were absolutely worthless.
that is a deity for ya!

Words cannot describe such a horrible event...imagine the pain and impact for your friend and all involved!
And now I have to sit there and read "One day, very soon, you will hold that baby in Paradise, blah blah blah". Excuse me while I vomit.
I can totally imagine...

Now, I couldn't care less. It's mindless drivel. I realize the calculations aren't "off". The calculators are "off" -- off their rockers. It's all mumbo-jumbo bullshit. So just MOVE ON! Life the life you have. Life is way too short to waste on this stuff.. . . . . YMMV. . . . Doc
Doc, with all respect, for 20 years I thought I was well informed by "trustful" men...I wasn't!
I'm a daily visitor of this forum and I've learned a LOT by doing so. Going on with my life doesn't mean I have to give up my interest regarding JW topics and doctrines. I'm a thinker...and that could as well be my curse.

Joachim Boldt - Two More Retractions for WT's bloodless "expert"
by OrphanCrow infrom retraction watch:.
when you have 94 retractions, what's two more?.
attention joachim boldt: the 1990s are calling, and they want their papers back.the annals of thoracic surgery has retracted two papers from the early 1990s on which boldt was the first author – bringing the retraction tally for the disgraced german anesthesiologist to 96, by our count.

I think it is important to keep going and expose the ways that the WT has used deception in their medical doctrine as well.
Everyone has the right to be well informed so I totally agree, keep up the good work.
It's just that I remember the warnings during field service not to be sucked into discussions with householders regarding blood. From my personal experience, it was discouraged. I'd only wish that more people would be as informed as the community that keeps a watch on the watchtower. But hey, every informed soul counts, right?

Thanks for this added information orphanCrow. I indeed remember an earlier thread about dr. Boldt. very interesting!
Most JW's however would not bring up the blood issue in field circus unless they are triggered by a person that has critical questions. I hope in cases when dr. Boldt is refered to as an authority regarding bloodless surgery, this info has already reached that person/householder.

Thank you all for your input, I assume many won't give a sh*t about this whole matter, but it matters to ME. I love consistancy, the same reason e.g. we consider 144,000 NOT literal because the rest of the surrounding verses (and Revelation in general) is symbolic. You can't have it both ways, right?
By that SAME rule, we agree that 7 times, or 2520 years, need to be counted as Jewish years. That would lead us, as the OP concluded, to 1886 AD instead of 1914 AD, a difference of 28 years.
But if we count 70 years as Jewish years, that would still bring us to a total of 70 years. The difference between using the Jewish and Gregorian calender would be 350 days, which is almost a full Jewish year of 360, but still wouldn't count as one, right?.
That difference however, when put under scrutiny, would be of influence when considering shorter periods of, let's say months, during those critical events. When it comes to history and calculations, details matter, right? It's not that I doubt historical science, but I'm just not aware of the "proper" use of 70 Jewish years in calculations by all oposing parties.

scratchme1010 > Wordly sources?
Scratchme, get me straight...I agree with those historians and I don't agree with the WT so you'll have to forgive me the use of the term. Consider it a leftover from 20 years of indoctrination ok?
The question still stands however...is 70 years to be considered 70 Jewish years of 360 days (just as is the case with 2520 years)?
