Steady stream goes in and a steady stream goes out. Nothing new.
Somehow, in looking at the nature of your post history, I don't really believe you.
in the last few weeks it seems that instead of one or two new posters a week we seem to be getting several every day.
many seem to be long time jw's who are troubled by the path of the organisation.
this is really encouraging to those of us who have been here sometime.. welcome!

court denies summary judgement for laurel jehovah's witnesses congregation.
a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

JW will be vindicate in the Higher Court
Fisherman: What evidence do you have for that statement? Or is that pure speculation and hope?

Fisherman: Why don't you just give up your defense of them? How can you know all you know about the organization and their harmful policies and still defend them?
They might be 99.9% pure, but if there's just that one drop of poison, why would you gulp it down?
putting on my carnac hat here.. let's say the evidence for evolution becomes so overwhelming that the society eventually has to accept it due to much turmoil in the congregations.
how do they do so without saying they've been wrong?.
why, redefine a word, of course!
Putting on my Carnac hat here.
Let's say the evidence for evolution becomes so overwhelming that the Society eventually has to accept it due to much turmoil in the congregations.
How do they do so without saying they've been wrong?
Why, redefine a word, of course! Just like they did with "Generation," they can redefine the word "Kind."
The Society uses this word "Kind" to refer to the different types of animals on the earth.
The Biblical “kinds” seem to constitute divisions of life-forms wherein each division allows for cross-fertility within its limits. If so, then the boundary between “kinds” is to be drawn at the point where fertilization ceases to occur.
"Oh see, that whale and hippo may have come from a common ancestor, but that's because they are overlapping 'kinds.' That doesn't prove creation didn't happen!"Overlap is the new Magic Bullet.
"You still haven't shown one 'kind' changing to another...they're overlapping, so they're the same."
"See, when jehovah created the first single cell organism billions of years ago, he caused it to divide into different kinds. After all, doesn't his name mean 'he causes to become?'"
"After that point, those kinds went through adaptation based on their environments...and that's why we have various species today. An ape and a human are the same 'kind.' You'll never see a human turn into a shark! Shark's aren't the same 'kind.'"
"It's really very simple! Here let me show you. Pretend the root of this tree is the first single cell organism created by Jehovah. Then, Jehovah caused it to branch off into different "kinds." Those kinds continued to branch, and though they created more branches, they never created more "kinds" because they came from that same branch. **Don't you see? The bible is scientific!**"

The law in question has to do with the confession setting, not a judicial setting.
What the JW's did was Judicial. Hence, does not qualify under the provision of the law.
Fisherman: I'm curious to know what your opinion is of the 14 year old rape victim being disfellowshipped. How is that justice?
having spent at least 20 million years acquiring the machinery to survive on dry land and hundreds of millions more diversifying and exploiting every conceivable niche, a number of landlubbers made their way back to the sea.. among these were pond snails, water spiders, water beetles, crocodiles, otters, sea snakes, water shrews, galapagos flightless cormorants, marine iguanas, penguins and turtles.
of course the most impressive example of all are the whales and their little cousins the dolphins.
these have gone all the way back to an aquatic existence as have dugongs and their close cousins the manatees jointly known as the sirenians, they don’t even come ashore to breed.
The more evidence of evolution being a fact that comes to light, I predict that JW's are eventually going to broaden their current definition of "kind" like they have with the word "generation."
A whale and a hippo are overlapping "kinds." You still haven't shown one kind changing to another. Show me a stingray turning into a monkey. You can't? CHECKMATE!
simon,.
i'm not sure if you ever share analytics data.. but i've been noticing a trend.
it seems that every time a new jw broadcast, we get a seeming increase in new members the week after.. does the data show that?.
I haven't noticed this....but it would be interesting to know if the broadcasts are waking people up.
If you know the broadcasts woke you up why not tell us on this thread.
In my imagined scenario, I'm not sure if it's broadcasts waking people up. I think it could be that some are awake, but stuck in, afraid...but they're lurking. Then they see a ridiculous broadcast like this week's, and they say, "Fk it, I'm joining up."
DISCLAIMER: (Keep in mind this is pure speculation on my part. I have no evidence to base this on whatsoever other than my perception.)

But I've been noticing a trend. It seems that every time a new JW broadcast, we get a seeming increase in new members the week after.
Does the data show that?
If you don't wish to share or don't have the time, I understand. Just interested to know if this trend I've seemingly perceived is backed up by data.
Thanks! Keep up the good work!
jehovah's witnesses' brooklyn tax exemptions totaled $368 million.
downtown brooklyn partnership ups its pressure on the tax-exempt organization to donate $50 million.
the jehovah’s witnesses have been exempted from paying at least $368 million in taxes on their brooklyn real estate holdings over the last 12 years, according to an analysis by the downtown brooklyn partnership and consulting firm bjh advisers.
There's no way to take them to court over this.
Though we all feel it's unjustified, they were and still are a recognized tax exempt non-profit.
However, what can be done is what is BEING done by this partnership...put pressure on them, generate negative press for the org and make them look like a greedy, ungrateful corporation.
