  what is the point of supporting a belief which began as a bronze age ox-headed idol called yahweh... in a religion designed for illiterate peasants now appropriated by a money-driven cult with a one hundred and forty six year unbroken record of total failure of its bible based predictions?.

  makemeanunbeliever: Now as to answer your "real question". The ancient Jewish faith was flawed but they were the chosen nation. No doubt surrounding nations thought them crazy and they probably warned their young ones of pitfalls. So the comparison to Christendom could very well fit today.
  So far nothing has moved me enough here to "make me an unbeliever". Thank you for your passionate effort though.

  Have you read up on the origins of Israel and Judeo religion outside of the Bible? Karen Armstrong (she's a believer) has an excellent book called A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It's an excellent read and gives an interesting glimpse at the roots of the belief in YHWH.

  You don't seem to understand what this thread is about. The OP (original post) is about some commonly held ideas between atheists and JW's. It wasn't espousing my beliefs at all.

  Then, you went off and made a bunch of statements about atheists that were full of fallacies.

  All I did was respond to your faulty statements to correct the record.

  The fact that I have to explain this to you could indicate a lack of reading comprehension on your part, which could also explain why you refuse to answer Cofty every time he asks you what books you have read in support of the theory of evolution.

  Atheists don't have faith. And just because YOU don't understand something doesn't mean others don't understand it.

  You don't know what Atheism is, do you? It's a lack of belief. By definition they don't worship anyone.

  Atheists by definition lack belief, so this is a flawed statement.

  -Never misses an opportunity to tell someone how they feel about religion.

  Overgeneralization. No one in my real life but a few close friends know about my atheism. I suspect that most atheists are like this. Now, if an atheist participates in an online discussion forum that frequently discusses the subject of religion, why would it surprise you if they expressed their opinion during the discussion? That's the purpose of discussion boards....to discuss things.

  -Both make mockery of god and bible.

  Theists, God and the Bible do a good enough job of that themselves...they don't need atheists to make them a mockery.

  -Both for long of day when everyone is exactly the same( no one believes in the bible). There will be peace.

  This may surprise you, but most atheists don't give two-shits about what you believe. All they want is for you to keep it to yourself.

  1. No belief in a Fiery Hell or place of divine torment

  2. No belief in an immortal soul or a soul separate from the body

  3. Both believe that when you die, you're dead...you cease to exist

  Because, regardless of its glaring flaws, it's still the best thing going atm.

  How do you know? (Esp. if you are born into the organization.)

  Have you actually studied all other religions to know that for a fact? Or is the knowledge you have about other religions only what the Society's publications have told you?

  A devout Catholic who desires to sincerely worship God could say the same thing. "Regardless of the glaring flaws in the Catholic church, it's still the best thing going at the moment." Why is that statement any less valid than your statement?

  JW.org vs. Cross: Honestly What's The Difference?

  i have a family member that goes nuts with these little things.

  i wouldn't be surprised if they have a drawer full of underwear stamped with the logo.. it is completely out of hand.

  now i'm not nitpicking here but what is the difference between printing a cross/wearing a cross than wearing a jw.org pin, tie-tack or whatever other logo'd item?

  In my opinion, there is no difference.

  Non-denominational Christians use the cross in the exact same way JW's use the JW . ORG logo.

  Compare it to Catholics though, and the argument can definitely be made that they "worship" the cross or at the very least, use the cross in worship. (Rosary)

  However, the vast majority of protestant religions do not treat the cross the way Catholics do.

  in the last few weeks it seems that instead of one or two new posters a week we seem to be getting several every day.

  many seem to be long time jw's who are troubled by the path of the organisation.

  Fisherman: What evidence do you have for that statement? Or is that pure speculation and hope?
