Not so fast... he's at 495 right now. You know the rules, we give it at least through today and tomorrow.

Re: the translation costs... just a reminder that we don't have the documents in our hands.
The lawyer mentioned that only those involved in the case directly can access them (probably why there's no way to just click and open them online).
So we're paying her to prepare a power of attorney and file it with the court and then access the case documents once the court acknowledges that. Translating also means she can explain what the documents mean from a legal point of view.
I know here in America all legal documents need to follow a particular format and wording and then get filed a particular way. One mistake and they toss it out.
IMHO a few hundred bucks is not a ridiculous amount to make sure everything gets done right and to have a few minutes of real legal advice.
Once we get the power of attorney and Kim signs and sends it over, she can also say that she's actually retained legal counsel in Croatia. Lloyd needs to think seriously about that if he plans on pushing forward with this bullshit. Since we know he reads this board, he also needs to consider the number of people willing to chip in a few bucks to get it done (plus a few have contacted me privately so there's more than he knows).
Anyway, it's Sunday so I'm sure we won't hear anything more today but will keep everyone posted moving forward.

LOL ... Inna says that emoji is awesome!
And for everyone offering to chip in, we got an initial offering back from the lawyer. She'll be sending a power of attorney (POA) which Kim (Silvio) will sign.
Right now we and one anonymous donor can cover the first round of the attorney's costs (around $400 USD) which includes filing the POA with the court. Once they acknowledge that she can access the case documents. Her fee includes translating that last document (the "decision/letter of the court").
However, the lawyer did note that with the courts being on strike, it could take some time to hear back from them. Grrr...
On the upside, with the POA in place, she would have access to all the other documents filed so we would need to decide what else we want to have her access and translate.
So, moving forward after this initial round of stuff, if we need some financial assistance we'll definitely let everyone know and will be happy to provide paperwork showing what's being paid for etc. etc. etc.
In the meantime, we just need to wait for the paperwork to get filed and then hope the strike doesn't put things off for too long. I'll keep everyone posted and keep your fingers still crossed that it all works out.

LOL ... maybe I shouldn't have said anything with a whole weekend ahead of us! Now everyone needs to wait to find out more... sorry!
If anything, it gives us an idea of what might be needed to get our hands on the documents. If this woman doesn't work out there are lots of other lawyers in Croatia, she was just the first to bite and was responsive and professional from what I could see... but it was already late in the day Croatian time when they messaged.
So I'm off to bed, as soon as we hear anything y'all will be the first to know, I promise.

To clarify, she didn't send a quote or proposal yet. The $100/hour is what's listed on her Upwork profile.
I looked at the conversation between them and Inna did say that she expected it wouldn't take more than a few hours, emphasizing we weren't looking for legal advice but just pulling a few documents and a "basic" translation.
This lawyer seemed to ask the right questions, i.e. are we witnesses or what's our involvement (since we're not listed as defendants). She also seemed to check out that page of all the filings and said "it is a minor offence which is prosecutable only privatley from what I can see." No clue what that means but it seems that she did at least poke around for a minute or two.
So, we'll know more next week whether or not she can do anything, but I just wanted to let people know that we at least are taking a stab at it. Keep all your fingers crossed that she can at least retrieve the documents and then we can go from there. If it turns out to be a bust, I'll let people know that as well but let's hope for the best!

FYI everyone Inna got a hit on her job posting, a lawyer in Croatia responded. Inna explained it all to her and the woman looked at that page you provided for us so she seems to understand what we're after.
The lawyer said she could probably pull documents with a limited power of attorney from one of the defendants and do a basic translation. She said she'll put together a proposal/quote for how to move forward and get back to us, but of course it's the weekend so I'm sure we won't get that for a few days.
She charges $100 USD per hour, we're okay with covering up to about $300 so it depends on what she proposes. Hopefully she doesn't have some 10-hour minimum rate or something crazy.
Anyway, we'll keep you posted when we hear back. Everyone keep your fingers crossed in the meantime.

@ Las Malvinas son Argentinas Thanks!
She said she can look at it more later tonight and then maybe tomorrow post a job offer on upwork. She checked today and legal assistants seem to charge $20 - $25 USD per hour in Croatia so it shouldn't be much to just retrieve papers and translate. We can certainly cover that.
Again, it will take some time but we'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Someone here suggested using Upwork as a place to find someone in Croatia who might help. Inna freelances and has an upwork account, she said she can maybe tackle that if we can give her all the pertinent info (we just don't have time to put it all together).
So can someone post everything needed to send to a legal person in Croatia? I assume it's the court name, judge's name, any case numbers, etc.
It might take a few days to post it and review the freelancers that respond and all that but it's worth at least having her check into it.
